  1. I didn't see it either but he threw an awful pass on third down in the red zone on that 2 minute drive at the end of the half that had pick written all over it. I haven't been really impressed in what I have seen so far from him, it's always striking to me how vast a difference there is in QB play in the NFL. I have said I am ready to move on from Rodgers but that was with Love unseen, now I am hoping maybe we win the Super Bowl and that makes Rodgers and the Packers decide to bury the hatchet and stick together. Very small sample size I know and playing behind a backup oline hurts but Love looks like he has a ways to go still. Wonder what he’d look like with the starting offensive line, any of the top receivers, or Jones playing with him?
  2. Leaf Pearl Hockey dropped yesterday after a couple of delays. As with all of the Pearl products since the line launched a few years back, the cards are gorgeous, it's full of 1/1s, and the cut sigs are full of good names. I'm not a fan of the 'hockey' part per se, but the autos/cuts really are multi-sport/Americana/Celebs, which Leaf does very well. Not interested in dropping $1-2k for a box, but always looking for value on the secondary market as the stuff starts to leak out to there.
  3. Kolten Wong is a $10M player. There's better values than 20M for Avi. The value of 20m for Avi only really comes into play if the Brewers feel based on their own due diligence that there won't be a market for him or that he'll accept a one-year deal. Otherwise, Avi is likely to test the market. He's probably set to obtain the biggest contract of his career if he stays on pace to finish with an .850-ish OPS, and potentially the last big one of his career as he heads into his 30s. Would he pass up the chance for something like 3/$40m just to take the higher AAV QO? My bet is no. His representation has to know of his hot/cold nature, and this may be his best opportunity to hit free agency after a truly great year. He could bank on himself on a high value one-year deal like Grandall did, but I don't see it. Grandall's value was suppressed by his previous season, Avi's is peak.
  4. The Packers under MLF have basically blown off preseason. And, IMO, rightfully so. Not worried a bit until there's any sign that that mentality carries over into September....
  5. The implosion of Yelich and Bellinger are absolutely astounding. At least Yelich is showing recent signs of life.
  6. The situation I described above literally happened in Escobar's first game ever as a 1B.
  7. Escobar has had a couple of errors caused at first because he hasn't been able to dig out throws that a more experienced first baseman absolutely would have. One of them was in the game we lost to Pittsburgh during the bullpen COVID stuff that caused runs to score. Defense matters, and poor defense costs runs.
  8. Yes, the QO deadline is usually ~ early November.
  9. Dumbest aspect of this is that the other team gets a win. I mean, a forfeit usually means the other team gets a win so this wouldn't be contrary to the typical rules of forfeiture.
  10. Well, you’re certainly correct that they’d have to be willing to pay the salary if Avi accepts. But, this front office has clearly shown a willingness to pay out on high AAV one-year deals previously. Also, Garcia has to make the decision on accepting/declining prior to free agency, so other than whatever pre-FA due diligence his people are able to do, they won’t know whether the market for him will be weak or not. Ala Moustakas in the 2017 offseason. Still, I have a hard time seeing Avi getting anything less than a multi year deal in free agency. Even if the AAV is less than $19 mil, I think he’d be a lock to get more guaranteed money than that in free agency, even if it’s spread out over multiple years. For that reason, I can’t see him accepting.
  11. I think the thought of him getting a QO was picked apart recently, but I'd be somewhat astounded if the Brewers didn't offer since Avi will almost certainly decline.
  12. Yeah, the odds based on schedule have the Reds at 60% for winning the WC. Terrible month + for San Diego.
  13. Couldn't agree more. I won't be entirely happy as a sports until all of my teams, including the Brewers/Badgers have titles.
  14. Good news for the Padres is that their farm system was so loaded that they didn't move even the bulk of their assets to setup their season and have ammo for 2022. But yeah, feels like a job-costing season for some in that org. And certainly an illustration that simply making big-name acquisitions doesn't guarantee success and you have to do it smartly.
  15. A gigantic reason as to why they were able to make guys like Miley and Chacin look so good.
  16. As I noted, it was out of the blue and considered puzzling at the time. That McGinn article was from days after it happened. If you're looking for cause/effect, perhaps you could also add it to the gradual erosion of McGinn's credibility and departure from the JS... No one has talked about it much since until today, which, as I noted, is why it caught me by surprise.
  17. Disappointing news on Funchess, as I really liked how he looked early in camp and thought he might add a nice vet option to the offense.
  18. People questioned in in the moment, but much of that abated when the stuff about the locker room came out, if I recall correctly. Heck, he wasn't even in Rodgers' laundry list of departed vet players that he complained about in his press conference. Nope, became a fan after they drafted Jordan Love, actually.
  19. To force another team to have an interest in trading for him? I understand that a lot of people carry resentment for Thompson and especially how the end of his career went. But I have to admit, citing the Sitton situation as part of that is something I hadn't seen before today. Seems an odd hill to die on, just IMO.
  20. Still need someone to trade him to.
  21. Seems also possible that you can also choose to believe that there was availability to trade him if you want, when there apparently was not.
  22. For those tracking playoff odds, the Brewers are now a 99.9% statistical lock per Fangraphs to make the playoffs. Division at 98.3%. St. Louis eliminated from the division race. Fivethirtyeight has the same lock for the playoffs, 96% on the division, and the Cardinals also out of the division race completely.
  23. 1+ runs in favor of the Reds is a big deal in a game that was a one-run game until the 8th. That's very significant and a big problem for MLB.
  24. I think this is an interesting point in noting the fact that speed isn't the sole thing that makes a baserunner. Wong is a fantastic baserunner, despite the lack of true high-level speed.
  25. ??? TT cut him and they got nothing. He then immediately signed a 4 year contract with plenty of guaranteed money to play for Chicago. They probably could have traded him instead if they really wanted him gone. That failure was pretty much the point where it was clear TT needed to be replaced. But that's not entirely what happened- the Packers identified that Sitton was nearing the end and did indeed cut him. He proved oft-injured and showed decline immediately with the Bears, to the point that the Bears declined their option on him just two seasons in. After the stuff about him being tool-ish in the locker room came out, it's not surprising that they moved on. Yeah, I guess you could have argued that they may have been able to get something for him, but I'd be astounded if they hadn't tried that prior to just releasing him.
