  1. Defensive replacements and PR only-type guys DO have playoff roster value. I'd think JBJ is on the roster as a result, especially with Avi continuing to suggest that a close-and-late defensive replacement might be smart....
  2. Yeah, with Myers really taking over the center role immediately, the Packers have the luxury of using Jenkins at LT, where he should be a very capable replacement.
  3. It's really hard to tell whether Kapler just doesn't understand the COVID list stuff or whether they've designated Cueto in a way that didn't officially put him on the list.
  4. Yeah, a bullpen game in game one of a four-gamer can only pay dividends over the course of the series....
  5. One of the main reasons why the Reds were able to keep pace-ish with us back in July was because Votto was white hot. Now that he's cooled off and the rest of the team is being asked to do the heavy lifting, they're not.
  6. Sorry, no sidestepping intended, I didn’t answer initially because I didn’t realize that wasn’t rhetorical. No, I don’t have experience living in another market where all of the sports teams were concurrently successful but unable to actually win titles. Which ones were you exposed to?
  7. Late in the season, rick. The assumption is that by that point, the division leaders have clearly established themselves as legitimate contenders with viable talent and expected success. A lead early in the season, for example, has a higher potential to be fluky or influenced by other longer-term factors.
  8. It's been raised because it's a concept discussed widely, both here and all over social media. viewtopic.php?f=156&t=38480 Including the Bucks' championship run, the assumption from a lot of people was that what could go wrong would. And in a lot of ways, that was true historically. Our teams have had a terrible string of performing exceptionally well, and finding a way to fall short of the ultimate prize. Perhaps you're not in the same boat, but many of those/us fans root for multiple Wisconsin sports teams, hence an inherent link between most fans of Wisconsin sports teams. But, the continued item at hand here is that you're posting on a Brewers message board where many/most have accepted the fact that the Brewers are almost certainly going to win the division, and not only do you continue to not believe that, you continue to challenge anyone who says otherwise. Again, this is a Brewers message board, and you're challenging actual historical results and statistical probabilities. I don't think you should be terribly surprised that at this point in the season people 1)don't share your view, and 2)are more than a little bewildered at how insistent you continue to be that the division is still a race and the Reds may catch us. In short, that has to either be a indicative of a negative/concerned view of the situation the Brewers are in, or, as you put it, 'stirring the pot.' The latter is obviously more problematic, but no one has said you can't believe the former. Just own it, and don't be so surprised when other people here disagree.
  9. I think that is definitely a factor, although not the only issue. If I'm not mistaken her cancer diagnosis happened in early 2021, which means Hiura's poor showing in the COVID-shortened 2020 season occurred prior to it. Good point. Though, as we saw with a bunch of the Brewers roster, it's possible that the COVID season was just its own monster for a lot of players, and it's plausible though unlikely that they are/were two separate events.
  10. Maybe it's possible that the stuff with his mom's health is having far more of an effect than they're letting on?
  11. In a modest surprise, Chez Mellusi will start at RB over Berger on Saturday.
  12. Except it really and truly is, literally based on historical results. You clearly have chosen to believe that the vastly improbable is less improbable than it actually is, which is fine. But that's what I and others were saying weeks ago. Just own it- you have every right to believe 'it's not over until it's over,' but it just means you don't trust the Brewers to finish this out. Which, again as noted, some fans of Wisconsin sports inherently believe based on a long history of near-misses. But, it's over for all intents and purposes. Doesn't mean it can't happen, just means is almost certainly won't.
  13. It doesn't necessarily trump it, but comparing QB draft picks from decades ago to modern QB prospects isn't accurate either. QBs are better and generally more NFL ready as rookies and 2nd year players in today's league than they were 15-20 and more years ago. But even if you expand it past 2-3 years into say, 10-15 to include the more modern game, you've got 'top of the first round' QB busts galore....
  14. Fixed it for you.... I dunno, I mean the last few years have yielded some pretty good QBs. Too early to grade '21, but Burrow and Herbert look like home runs. Too soon to know on Tua but looks promising. Kyler was a homerun and Danny Dimes has been a mixed bag so far but with very little supporting cast. Allen and Lamar have been stars. Mayfield has been at least better than what Cleveland has had. I'm going to withhold judgment on Darnold until he gets to play with an organization that hasn't been the Adam Gase led New York Jets. The only QBs taken since the '18 draft that look like total busts to me are Rosen and Haskins. Three years of recent draft performance doesn't trump decades of history. Also, as Carson Wentz shows us, a career can end up completely different than the trajectory indicated by the first year or two in the league. As the league figures you out or other things happen, there's plenty of time to become 'just a guy' despite initial success.
  15. I still think they'll be able to move him for something to an AL team. My hope is that they can do a swap of 'shine is gone' former top prospects. My dream would be that the Angels have soured on Jo Adell or something like that... But yes, I'm increasingly convinced that if Hiura does become a MLB hitter, it won't be for the Brewers.
  16. Yeah, that's fair. If the goal is to make the playoffs, it's been good enough. But under typical circumstances, 10-10 isn't usually going to be good enough. What the Pads are doing is just terrible.
  17. They started the month 6-1. Have been 10-10 since. Not that great Yep. Then factoring in who they've been playing, it's been a bad last 3 weeks for the Reds.
  18. Thanks for posting. It does appear that the Reds are going to backslide into the playoffs because the Padres are somehow performing even poorer than the Reds are. The Reds had a favorable schedule and did little with it.
  19. Hanson had a bad game yesterday. That delay of game inside the red zone at the end of the half was brutal.
  20. You certainly can. Just don't think it's fair or valid to do so based on the two games we've seen, in my opinion.
  21. Scott Frost is getting canned soon, right? My goodness, the hopes that school put into a guy that had a flukey season at a small school that played nobody until the very last game yet went undefeated.
  22. As you can see it by watching garbage preseason games with 4th-string caliber o-lineman are missing blocks left and right and the best receiver you're putting on the field is Malik Taylor? I mean, ok. Doesn't seem a fair test or evaluation. As I recall, Aaron didn't exactly light it up in his preseason games when he was behind Favre either....
