  1. Man alive... what in the heck do we have to do to get a decent performance out of our bullpen?
  2. I'd seriously consider walking Rollins here. EDIT: Or not. I don't know if you call 5.1 innings and 4 - 6 ER's valiant.. unless you are grading on a Ben Hendrickson scale.. 5.1 innings is better than 3 or 4, that's for sure. Would have liked to see him get through the 6th, but it was definitely time to pull him.
  3. If you're a Mark Rogers fan, you probably don't want to look at the Brevard County box score tonight....
  4. So Sal Fasano doesn't actually throw out 100% of runners? After last week, who could've guessed?
  5. Sure would have been nice to see that Lee HR, but my Charter digital cable is on the fritz yet again...
  6. It should be pointed out the the JS headline STILL says Brewers 6, Reds 5. And people that work there (or used to) get upset when people wonder if they actually watch the games?
  7. Heh.... the no-hitter ends on a ball lost in the sun. Fitting.
  8. But how bad is our pitching when we've got Weeks, Cirillo, Koskie, Clark, Miller and Fielder who are all red hot surrounding Jenkins, Lee and Hall and we're still only a game over .500. I guess part of the problem is that save for a HR last night, Lee and Jenkins aren't even close to being hot right now.
  9. That is the 2nd time this series that Kearns has hit a HR to the opposite field that I can't believe went out after seeing it off the bat.
  10. Could have been much worse. It's a shame it cost Doug like 30 pitches, though.
  11. Jenkins is generally over-rated as a fielder by most Brewers fans, it seems I don't think he's over-rated, as his defense in past years has legitimately been Gold Glove caliber. That said, he's had a pretty awful year in the field...
  12. So by Jenkins totally blowing that play, did we actually catch a break? He was so confused, he confused the baserunners to the point where we almost grabbed a couple outs out of it...
  13. The good news is that we usually pound the snot out of Claussen....
  14. If Hendrickson has an unusually short start, that means he did very poorly and the probability of winning that game is probably pretty small. Indeed. You want to leverage the probability of winning a game you already have the lead in to increase the odds of winning a game that is, for all intents and purposes, already a lost cause? Why are you limiting it solely to Saturday's game? You don't see how having the bullpen pitch 9 innings that day has lead to losing games over the following week?
  15. You play for the game you are playing. A hah! So those people that were up in arms for using Turnbow in 5 of 6 games or whatever it was like yourself are completely and totally out of line, because the Brewers were rightfully playing to win each of those 5 games, correct? Anyone who doesn't plan for down the road a ways with their staff usage is going to fail, and I'm pretty shocked that you don't think that way...
  16. Peavy and Ned--losing today in order to lose by less tomorrow! Putting Davis in lessened your chance of winning on Saturday. Endaround: Losing every game this week because his bullpen is too tired to keep a single game close! I'll take a lessened chance of winning on Friday when Davis pitched over a lessened chance to lose each game for the next week, but apparently you disagree..... The fact is, Ned accurately was cautious with his bullpen because of the possibility that Hendrickson would have a short start on Saturday. Hey, he did have a rediculously short start, taxing the bullpen to the point that they haven't recovered yet. Some people here are just too stubborn to acknowledge that what Ned did made total sense.
  17. This line from Mark Rogers would have you guys drooling. Very, very true hscoach. It's just that Yo has raised his expectations so high that he can't meet them every single time out there. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. I agree with what you're saying, except don't get on people who didn't want Davis to go out for the 8th last week. No one in their right mind except for maybe Dusty Baker would agree that was a smart move. I agree that it was a smart move, because Ned was anticipating that Hendrickson probably wouldn't have a long outing the next night and would send the bullpen further into a tailspin, so he wanted to get every ounce out of his starter that was pitching well up to that point to save the bullpen anyway he could. Hey, it turns out he was right.
  19. Then why wasn't Eveland stretched out a little longer today? I don't think his pitch count was high. They showed 68 pitches not long before they took him out. 92 pitches for Eveland, actually.
  20. Bingo. No bullpen is going to look good when each reliever is forced to make around 4 appearances per week after hideous outings by their starting staff. Yep. All those guys who were up in arms about the 13-man staff and threw a fit when Davis was allowed to start the 8th last week got real quiet in a real hurry. The bullpen can't survive like this.... they need 4 starters to go six regularly, and they'll be ok.
  21. He hasn't done anything in the past to make me confident in his abilities. So his 3.89 ERA in 35+ innings last year is unacceptable to you? Look at the bullpen pitchers right now...they are absolutely horrible as a whole. How can this team expect to consistently win with poor starting pitching and even worse bullpen help to seal the game later on? I don't care how good your offense is, pitching is what carries a team into contention. Like previously said and totally ignored by you, ya think the bullpen MIGHT potentially be sucking because they have to throw 6 innings a night, 5 times a week? Kolb looks like he's going to have a heart attack on the mound....
  22. All you mentioned was the starting pitching. You neglected to mention anything about bullpen depth? Come on! The bullpen this year was overall quite horrible, if I may say so. . So I don't see how it's out of the realm to think our pitching depth is any better than mediocre, at best (especially in the minor leagues). Last year's bullpen was solid, and this year's is pretty much made of the same guys (minus Julio Santana). Melvin was supposed to anticipate that they wouldn't be as good? Kolb is back and should be expected to be better than Santana... how was Melvin supposed to anticipate Lehr sucking and the lack of depth in the rotation causing the bullpen to have to pitch 5/6 inning a night?
  23. Melvin receives his share of praise, but he didn't do a good job of creating pitching depth for us, let's be honest. You can't be serious. This year, for the first time we had 6 legitimate Major-league quality starters to work with. It's Melvin's fault that three of those options got hurt all at once? The depth was there, but chance hasn't worked out. The depth was better this year than it has been since 1992.
  24. Poor fundamentals let us down again.... should be 5-3.
