  1. My God Soria. Don't walk the tying run to the plate! Cripes! Terrible!
  2. Not gonna get a more ideal time to use Albers. Clean inning here would go a long way toward making him useful again. Yeah, a more ideal time is when you’re behind by 6 runs. Using him now gives the Rockies life. Its still a 4 run lead at this point, if they end up blowing it it's going to be on a lot more than just Albers.
  3. It's like they didn't even care, just looked at it for 10 seconds and said whatever, close enough.
  4. Albers had an ERA barely over 1 in early June and now it's over 6. Just incredible how bad he's gotten so quickly.
  5. Albers lets one more on you got to pull him. My goodness.
  6. Schoop definitely seemed more comfortable tonight. Looked good defensively. Not a great statistical night still but put it in play every time and you could see the raw power on that last flyout as he got way under it and still nearly got it to the track in dead center. It was a step in the right direction tonight.
  7. C'mon windmill. I know there were 2 outs. But that wasn't even close.
  8. I would let him go longer if he can. They probably aren’t going to use him two days in a row anyway and with the off day Monday he should be OK to go on Tuesday if needed. No reason for him to go more than 1 in a 6 run game. Get him an inning just to get him some work and you've still got him available for tomorrow before the day off if you need him. He can and has pitched on back to back days, so tonight is just about getting him some work -- don't ride him for 35 pitches.
  9. Can't believe they ended up getting 6 from Freddy. Nice work.
  10. I will never understand what a balk is if that's not a balk.
  11. Man off the bat I thought, "Very high fly, should be deep enough to get the run in though." Shaw, not Perez.
  12. Aguilar doing a nice job in his last 2 ABs not pressing, being patient and taking the walk.
  13. I like Thames in the 7 slot and Perez on the bench. Not tonight necessarily but in general.
  14. I can. Umpires are too influenced by the catcher. If Pina was set up there and didn't have to move to catch the ball it would likely have been a strike. Yep. Another benefit of the automated zone, it does not care how much the catcher moves, it knows what a strike is.
  15. I don't know how much longer they can hang with Peralta, might need to swap him out in Colorado Springs with Woodruff soon. He's got command issues to work on. Its just too taxing on your bullpen to hand the ball to a 3-4 inning starter every 5 days.
  16. "Ball" 2 to Blackmon was nowhere near being a ball. One batter into the game and trash umpiring already. The lack of accountability for how bad these guys are is just unfathomable.
  17. I don't believe this is correct. As noted in my previous post, over the next three years, he's due $35M a year in salary, plus he gets a $15M annually as part of his original signing bonus. However, ALL of the salary ($105M total) is deferred. The only cash he gets the next three years is the $15M bonus money - which he gets each year. Yeah, looking it over here: https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/washington-nationals/max-scherzer-5166/ I think I may have interpreted it wrong. Still, locking yourself into a $15M annual obligation for 7 years for a player who won't even be here is not a risk many GMs are going to be willing to take, if any. That's huge for a deferred amount and not for a short period of time.
  18. Bryce Harper cleared waivers last year. Elite players can and do clear revocable waivers in August. They clear for a number of reasons. Sometimes they'll clear because yes, the team cannot afford the contract and they know that they'll simply be pulled back anyway. I'd go as far as to say Scherzer probably clears, just as Verlander did last year. I think people misunderstand how different revocable waivers are from regular waivers and would be shocked at how many players clear. The sheer number of players placed on waivers in August is an enormous list and claims are usually strategic -- either to block a rival contender from a player they might want or from a genuine desire to try to acquire a player. They're not even supposed to leak the names that do and yet we hear about many high profile names yearly. Players like Harper clear waivers every year because they are only on waivers as a formality. You can't sneak a trade for a player like Scherzer through that way, not least because if you are shopping Scherzer you're going to let teams know and not just work out a sweetheart deal with a secret bidder. Verlander cleared because he was still owed a lot of money and was looking fairly mediocre in Detroit. He only reasserted himself as an ace pitcher after the trade. As good as Scherzer is, nearly 30M a year for the next 3 years, for a 34 year old, plus an additional 15M a year for 7 years after that, is an absolutely crazy commitment that very few teams would be in a good position to just take on. Washington is almost certain to pull him back, but that's an enormous financial risk for any GM to take, and they'll typically err on the side of conservatism rather than risk paying a guy until he's 44. Doubt any GM rolls the dice. It's too risky and probably pointless anyway. Maybe we will find out this month.
