  1. Stearns and Counsell playing 3D chess! Let the Pirates win so they mortgage their future. Heck, Stearns may have been involved in Archer solely to jack up the price.
  2. Given that the odds of a trade being with any team is essentially 1 out of 29 and any team having two blockbuster trades in a 7 month window with any of them would be a pretty rare occurence, exactly how common would you think that scenario would be?
  3. If the Cubs are going to sign him, I don't think it really matters if they give up something for him first or not. Not even sure I would mind. If they want to pay Mike Trout tier money for a guy with one elite season, that's ok. They don't have unlimited resources.
  4. Didn't really get that vibe at all. Said he doesn't know the whole situation, isn't concerned that he wasn't consulted and will reserve judgment for now.
  5. It's too bad about Harper though. I would have loved to see the Cubs do something idiotic like trade them Almora for Harper.
  6. Trading is not personal. You win some, you lose some, and it's way too early to call the trade a loss for Miami. DS hasn't made too many bad trades, but if you want to call the Will Smith trade a bad one, it would be like not dealing with the Giants because of that. Or the Rangers not dealing Jeffress back to us last year because they got burned when they traded him to us in the Lucroy deal. These guys are professionals, and the day they won't deal with someone because it ended up being a bad trade in the past is probably the day they're done.
  7. Exactly, just worry about getting there. If there's a couple days to go in the season and you have nothing to play for (division, home field wild card game), then I would expect them to basically shut down the better part of the pen for a few days. Example, they go into Detroit for the last 2 games of the season with the home wild card game clinched and the Cubs already won the division, then Hader, Knebel, Soria, and Jeffress are not pitching in the last 2 games under any circumstances. But all the starters are pretty close together and I'd expect they'd go with whoever is up and plan on handing it over to a fresh pen early.
  8. Harper is going nowhere. Its nothing but a "why not" net cast by the Nationals to see if someone is dumb enough to give up the farm for a 2 month rental of Harper based on his name. No one will, so nothing to see.
  9. The Mets are also going to throw in free Brewer season tickets for 2019 to all Brewerfan.net posters? That's about the only thing they could surprise me as far as how cheap Harvey should be. Especially since Harvey is now Red! Oops, I knew that, but total brain lapse when typing. Mets FO is stingy so better chance anyway on the free season tickets.
  10. Why? He just had a rehab start 3 days ago which went really well, it's not like he's just starting to throw from a mound again.

  12. Trade deadlines are often like this. Visions of grander and nothing. lol. I think it could ultimately be this today. It was like this after Yelich/Cain day. Everyone expected, was certain about additional movement, was certain about another pitcher, but they rolled with who they have. Now we have Davies nearing a return, no room for Woodruff, our best starting pitching prospect is in the pen, and yet people still will be shocked if we don't add another pitcher. Why?
  13. Manny knew it. It was funny watching the fans in the front row groan and throw their arms up about a pitch right down the middle.
  14. Well, it wasn't a pretty night for Freddy but it was fairly effective. For 4 innings anyway.
  15. For as many extremely quick hooks as Craig gives when a starting pitcher is cruising, he sure does have a knack for trying to squeeze every last pitch out of one that is struggling.
  16. I would jump all over that Realmuto trade. Miami wouldn't do it, though.
  17. Man, Corey Ray is either really good or really bad. There isn't much middle ground any day. Any chance we are just kind of deliberately stashing Villar in AAA for now for 'rehab'?
  18. I think people expecting such a move tomorrow are going to be disappointed (or not disappointed, depending on your perspective.)
  19. Of course not every pitch of his sequence was terrible, but Braun not even just putting a hanging slider in play was a killer.
  20. It's really too bad they didn't get a hit, but they generally had good at bats. Can't get a hit every time. The main disappointment for me is Braun missing that hanging slider down the middle. Otherwise they had good atbats, made Maeda work. Get him out in the 5th inning or better They didn't need a hit. All Thames had to do was hit a flyball and basically all Braun had to do was put it in play and not pop it up. He had 2 very, very hittable pitches.
  21. Yep. Plus Braun and Thames just basically need to put it in play and not pop it up. Pina actually had to get a hit since the 2 before him failed.
  22. Extremely disappointing ABs by Braun and Thames. Blowing a golden chance for a big number could be game deciding here. Hopefully they can get to him again.
  23. Ask any Brewer player from 2012 to 2015.
