1. How many times since June has this team gotten off to great starts in series' against good teams only to fade on the back end?
2. God Dodger fans are stupid. First the extreme groans for Kerhshaw not getting a call a foot outside and now raining boos on Chacin. Yes he really a 1-2 count was a great situation to throw a slow curve at Turner.
3. Stranding a leadoff double is hard enough but blowing 1st and 3rd no one out. .ouch. Especially against a guy like Kershaw when you just don't know if you'll even get another chance.
4. Like Arcia, Schoop seems to be constantly down 0-2, 1-2. That last AB was probably his best one so far as a Brewer, sadly.
5. Too many times this year leaving the bat on the shoulders taking strike 3 w/ RISP.
6. I think he's pressing, with his new team, as opposed to being loosey goosey lately with the no-pressure Orioles. Probably. Hopefully he'll loosen up once he gets the first hit out of the way.
7. Well, thank you Grandal. We certainly didn't earn that run.
8. I wanted Schoop here, but 0 for 6 with 4 K's is not a very good way to start.
9. Brewers to Darnell Coles: "Whatever you need, Darnell. Trade for Yelich? Not good enough? Let's get Cain, too. We're going to get you so many studs you can't even start them all. Then we're going to do the same thing at the trade deadline." Brewers to Derek Johnson: "I dunno. Here's Jhoulys Chacin and Wade Miley. Figure it out."
10. Woodruff is a better option for certain. I think it will be valuable for his development to get some more MLB starts under his belt. Since he wasn't traded, I think this means that we likely sink or swim with Woodruff getting some August and September starts in the midst of a pennant race. We also need the rest of the current rotation to stay healthy, IMO. Very risky but it's a gamble Stearns decided to take. I agree. I was hoping they'd make a deal for either Archer or Gausman, but since that didn't happen, I'd rather they give Woodruff a fair shake. His stuff and velocity might be the best of any starter in the organization. Of all the potential waiver guys out there, the only one that interests me at all is Sonny Gray, as he's young enough to still make a positive impact. I doubt he'd come close to making it to the Brewers via waivers, though. Guys better than Gray make it all the way through August waivers every year. It really is a lot different element from regular irrevocable waivers. Not saying I'd guarantee he'd make it, just that it wouldn't at all surprise me.
11. http://www.milb.com/content/page.jsp?sid=t451&ymd=20060112&content_id=37951&vkey=team1 Says near the bottom that they have a giant kids playland on the first base concourse.
12. There are plenty of arms in both the NL and AL, including Gray, that could presumably clear waivers. GMs are notoriously conservative about who they claim in August because there's no room for negotiation if the waiving team simply wants to saddle you with the contract, they can accept your claim and give you the player (and the contract). While I think it could possibly go either way, I don't see a ton of demand for a player like Gray who comes with a $6.5M prorated price tag (more in 2019) and has been really bad 2 out of the last 3 years. For perspective, all these players cleared revocable waivers last August: Justin Verlander Nick Castellanos Brad Ziegler Derek Holland James Shields Brandon Crawford Asdrubal Cabrera Among many others. These are just ones that became public. Obviously many more that did not. Also of note, players like Hiura and Ray could still be used as part of an August blockbuster if we wanted to -- they are not on the 40 and can still be traded. Burnes and Peralta cannot without clearing revocable waivers which would be unlikely for either.
13. I honestly thought starting Perez really backfired on Counsell in the 8th. Having to pinch hit Shaw against a LHP is just not something you want to have happen, ever. Unfortunately Kratz is a double play waiting to happen, and Arcia is, well, Arcia. But Perez did miss a play or two at SS that I think Arcia makes, and in reference to the 8th, if Arcia starts at SS like usual, Perez is the PH there, and while that's not ideal, it would have been better against a lefty than what we had.
14. Well, not sticking around to watch the rest of this one. Hope to be pleasantly surprised in the morning.
15. Looked on mlb.com game day and it shows a ball there too. Outside and close to being high. Don’t know how to post a screenshot or I would. Looks on the corner to me.
16. Pitch track literally showed it right down the middle. You're kidding right? That's a ball three years ago Braun would've hit 450 feet On the Dodgers broadcast, it showed that it was outside. Obviously wasn't right down the middle but was right on the corner according to Gameday and I figured it was going to be called live. I guess it was one that could have gone the other way maybe but it certainly wasn't an egregious strike call.
17. Letting a player simply leave for free is rare, but it does happen because it's an opportunity to get out of their contract with that player free and clear and pass it on. When we had Cesar Izturis and he was claimed we simply let him go. Alex Rios was one of the highest paid guys to change hands this way.
