  1. I like how Perez is still nodding at Pina before the pitch.. "Eephus ball again? Ok, let's do it."
  2. It's hard to believe that 2 hours ago we had a 2 run lead, bases loaded and 1 out, and it looked like it was going to be a really good day.
  3. Yeah Realmuto is going to be a Yelich comparable price and they have made it clear to the Nationals that they need Robles or Soto back for him, so we'd need to pony up Hiura plus. I guess that's selling the farm to me although given Realmuto's control through 2020 I don't have a big issue. If Realmuto could be acquired inexpensively he probably would have been a Brewer on opening day.
  4. Brewers have inquired about Schoop. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/07/teams-interested-in-jonathan-schoop-kevin-gausman-dylan-bundy.html
  5. Sorry for anyone here who wasted their money to head out to Miller Park and witness this one.
  6. Speaking of Braun, he's making Aguilar look like quite a defensive star at 1st today. Woof.
  7. Braun's 2018 numbers projected over a full 162 game, even with all the bad luck: 75 runs scored, 32 doubles, 3 triples, 23 home runs, 79 RBI. Simple projections don't consider the occasional hot streak, which Braun is long overdue for. The slash line is ugly, but to say that Braun has not produced is simply inaccurate. 23-25 home runs, and 80 RBI...the vast majority of Major League hitters would consider that a decent campaign. We're used to so much more from Braun, and he's still making strong contact, so we're baffled by his considerable drop off from 11 prior seasons. I'm betting he is, too. You're projecting Braun's stats out to a full 162 games? Even though 1) No one plays 162 games anymore. 2) Braun doesn't play anywhere near 162 games. That's insanely deceiving and biased. Eric Thames is on pace for 42 HR this year over 162 games. Keon Broxton is on pace for 11.3 WAR over 162 games. Just to illustrate how misleading that kind of a projection model is.
  8. And, Kemp has had a total 0.3 WAR for all of 2017 and 2018. No, WAR is hardly the be-all, end-all. But for a quick gauge of how a player has performed over time, it's pretty good. Braun's 4.4 WAR in 2016 is 1.7 more wins than Kemp has been worth over the last seven seasons combined, including 2018. Keep believing that Kemp is going to continue hitting the ball like he has been. History would suggest otherwise. Strawman argument. I never said Kemp would continue hitting like he has. I simply implied that we'd be a better team in a better position if Kemp were here and Braun wasn't, when you take into consideration the commitment to Braun through 2020 and Kemp just through 2019. Also, 2016 Braun is long gone, that player isn't coming back, especially given how many injuries he deals with at this point in time -- that isn't going to improve with age.
  9. That won’t solve anything. Woodruff isn’t that good He’s arguably our second best pitching prospect still. He hasn’t been great in the majors this year, but to say he isn’t any good is a very short sighted comment. Hard to say how good Woodruff is when he's never had any extended shot at this level.
  10. This reminds me of the constant back and forth we have on Chris Archer. "Archer is a lot better pitcher than his numbers show." "But he hasn't been." "Well, he SHOULD be." Luck matters, but when a player is constantly underperforming his peripherals it's time to dig a little deeper and look for reasons why instead of just assuming that its going to turn around over a long enough period of time.
  11. Yes, too bad we don't have Kemp and his 1.5 WAR in through 98 games. That 2.5 WAR projected over 162 games would have been such a major boon to this team! The front office made the right decision. As has been pointed out, Braun has had some terrible luck this season. But Matt Kemp, outside of one MVP caliber season, and one other quasi-All Star season, has been a major disappointment as a Major League player, and that ugly side of Kemp could rear its ugly head at any minute. Per BBR, he had an 8.0 WAR in 2010. A 4.9 WAR in 2009. Since his hot start to the 2011 season, he's been a disaster. 2.8 WAR combined over the past seven seasons, and 3,009 plate appearances. Take away this season, and 1.3 WAR over a six season stretch. That the kind of player anybody wants on this team? Braun has come through in the clutch on more than one occasion this season, and while he's clearly nowhere near the MVP he used to be, I could easily see him getting hot for a stretch. You really missed the point on Kemp. He's only under contract through 2019 which removes a year of commitment which in itself lightens our burden. Also, 2.5 WAR is a good player. WAR isn't the end all be all but it's really odd that you would hitch your wagon to WAR to knock Kemp all the while Braun has a total 1.4 WAR all of 2017 and 2018.
  12. Also helps when you have your best options starting and not guys like Brent Suter.
  13. Perez with an absolutely laughable AB when we had a chance for a big number in the 1st looms very large now.
  14. He isn't. Saladino walked. As is a good thing to do when the pitcher isn't throwing strikes, not that Hernan has any clue about that.
  15. Remember all the Braun for Kemp rumors in the offseason and how laughable the front office found it to be?
  16. It's very frustrating and really inexcusable. Its like he wasn't even paying attention to what had already happened in the inning.
  17. Pretty much exactly the approach I would have expected from Perez with the bases loaded after 2 previous walks in the inning.
  18. This was beaten to death in the game thread last night but I think its pretty obvious that the intent of the ovation to most was to show support and forgiveness -- it was obviously not a condoning of what he said 7 years ago. As I also said last night, nothing the fans could have done wouldn't be criticized by someone today. I don't think anyone specifically said to boo, but plenty said to just not react at all? Really? I can tell you exactly how that would be construed today: that the fans didn't even acknowledge it and acted like nothing ever happened. Fine by me, but we all know how well simply not acknowledging it would have gone over by some groups, not well. Ignoring it is being part of the problem, many would say. Nothing the fans could have done would have made everyone happy.
  19. Must have been some confusion or a late stretch that resulted in the late lineup. The original lineup I saw had Keon out, Yelich in RF, Braun in LF, and Aguilar in. Unless Aguilar is hurt, 2 games removed from the break against a LHP is not the day I would have picked to give him a day off.
  20. Just over 2 hours til first pitch and still no lineup? I'm picturing Craig waking up for the day right now, looking at his clock and freaking out.
  21. For those who think Whit would be cheap: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/07/trade-rumors-abreu-brewers-bosox-twins-royals-dodgers-brach-treinen.html "An executive" had suggested it would take a headliner of a top 10-15 MLB prospect, plus two good prospects upcoming in the Rule 5 crunch, to get it done. Now obviously, we aren't making that deal, but no, a couple prospects in the organizational 11-20 range isn't going to cut it.
  22. This is pretty clearly the correct answer. How is it getting Burnes to the show more quickly when he's also MLB rotation ready now? I understood it to an extent with Hader and would definitely understand it with Peralta given his inning constraints this season. With Burnes it seems like more of a natural fit for him to go straight from the rotation and I'm not sure I really buy the explanation because they're not doing this with all their pitching prospects.
  23. Burnes threw 146 innings in 2017, so it shouldn't be an issue if they want to push him to 170-175. If they see him as a long-term starter, they should be building his innings up, not cutting them. On the surface you might think they simply want to avoid having to shut him down, but he's only at 84 2/3rds for the season. In essence, he could start every 5th game for the rest of the season, go 6 innings every time, and he'd STILL only be at 156. I have no doubt he can help in the pen but he's been a starter and a very good one almost his entire professional career up until recently and it seems like he could help out in that role even more.
