  1. Actually I see the bullpen as short another stud. We have the big 3, but then a dropoff to Williams, and then a another dropoff to Barnes, Jennings, and then the rotating door player. Assuming Albers comes back like 2017-April 2018 Albers, then we don't need a stud. But if he went to sucking every other year bullpen guy place, then we need another guy because of how much Counsell relies on the bullpen. We won't have time to see if Burnes can be a bullpen asset before the trade deadline comes and goes. Edit: To be clear, I am not saying I want Hand. I actually would look for someone that isn't a "closer" - like Will Smith or the Marlins BearClaw to round out the bullpen since it doesn't seem like we will be able to acquire an ace, better shorten the game. Knebel: 3.52 ERA, 4.47 FIP, 1.04 WHIP, 13.7 K/9 Williams: 2.57 ERA, 3.27 FIP, 1.14 WHIP, 11.3 K/9 Where's the dropoff from Knebel to Williams?
  2. I've never understood this. Even if a pitcher is wild shouldn't a strike still be a strike no matter what the other pitches have been before that one?? One would think. Another not so lovely thing about the 'human element.'
  3. No, that's true but my point is the price is probably going to be high. Also, I know every team has their own individual rankings but the ones public to us are at least a pretty good starting point to get close, I think. I wouldn't imagine any of them have Keston Hiura outside of their top 3 and Cameron Roegner in their top 5.
  4. Do we really know that, though? His price will likely be lower now that it hypothetically was before the season. Either the price will be affordable in a team's eyes, or TB won't find a buyer. I don't see this as the time Stearns suddenly decides to throw caution to the wind. I also just don't see a team that turned down 3 top 50 prospects for Archer pre-2017 shipping him out at a big discount a year and a half later with still a lot of control left.
  5. Avoiding trades inter-division in general is dumb. I can see certain situations where you would want to avoid it, but for the most part, if I'm dealing, I'm taking the best offer, I don't care where it's from. Baltimore has 25 wins this season. What on earth do they care what Machado does for the next 2 months for the Yankees if they got the best possible return?
  6. Said this from the moment Knebel got the 'closer' role back. This team did so well managing the bullpen situationally in late innings when Knebel was out. Why they would go back to defined roles like that is baffling. 17 games over .500 is proof that the current bullpen usage is working. No. That is not proof of that whatsoever. How does team record correlate to performance of a certain area of the team in any way? That's like saying, "We're 17 over. 500, so change nothing." For a truer result, compare the bullpen performance in the time Knebel was out versus post-Knebel injury when they abandoned situational roles.

  8. Stranding the potential winning runs 2nd and 3rd mone out in the 10th and our best reliever looking like crap is enough for me to be pretty ticked.
  9. Like I said...we deserved to lose. 2nd and 3rd nobody out in the 10th and nothing -- unacceptable. That was the game. Not blaming Counsell. Call a spade a spade -- Hader stunk. Knebel stunk. And like many times this year, the offense couldn't get the big hit when they needed it.
  10. Kind of hilarious to be that worried about the runner when you're just going to send him over to the next base for free on 4 pitches anyway.
  11. I'll have to take your word for it. I can't fathom anyone here actually thinking we were just going to stroll into Miami and blow them out 3 times.
  12. Regardless of what happens here, that was such a dumb bunt. Thanks Marlins.
  13. The All Star break cuts the minimum DL stay nearly in half. I would bet that is a big reason he's on the DL since he won't be missing the full allotment of games. Well today is 1 and we have 8 games to go til the break, so that's 9, so he's pretty much missing a full DL stay. But point taken on that, wouldn't have mattered if he played Saturday or not.
  14. Don't know why Puig would have anything to do with Machado. Average player at a completely different position.
  15. I just don't really get why you PH Braun as the last out in the 9th in a 5-1 game on Saturday only to stick him on the DL the next day. Like...why? Was that AB really worth losing that extra day of eligibility?
  16. Rarely do we get to find out who is right to a hypothetical. This time we do. Aguilar is on the Final Vote ballot.
  17. Machado is playing for Baltimore today, so chances are no need for a hugwatch today.
  18. I guess maybe we are doing more than just kicking the tires.
  19. I hope they don't bring Miley back 3 days before his scheduled start. That would be a waste of a roster spot.
  20. I think Dubon would make it easier to trade Arcia. He's a high end defender in his own right and shouldn't have a problem exceeding the offensive production that Arcia has brought to the table.
  21. Ramirez through 2 and a third tonight for the Sky Sox so cross him off the list.
  22. He'd have to totally fall in love with Milwaukee in the next 3 months to the point where he wanted to take a discount to stay. And even that 'discount' would be something like 6/180. I'm not going to say never, because stranger things have happened, but pretty much no chance.
  23. If they had scored 2 in the bottom of the 8th and lost 5-3, the context would be much different. I'm not necessarily saying they should have used Hader (though I'm definitely saying Zagurski for 2 was a mistake), but you can't always judge a move like that. I'd prefer to see Hader used as a more conventional reliever or as a starter to at least increase his availability. If going 3 innings puts him out of commission for 4 days, he shouldn't be used that way except in the rarest of circumstances. Riding him for 3 innings against Minnesota in a 2 run game when he wasn't even at his best was unnecessary. We are very, very fortunate it didnt cost us the game yesterday where we really needed him.
