  1. Gameday may show it as a ball, but it was a strike at other points in the game. If an umpire is calling a strikezone inconsistently, there's plenty of reason to pick that battle. I don't get this argument. Because he called it wrong at other points in the game, we should be upset that he didnt call it wrong at that point? I get that you'd rather see at least consistency out of an umpire if he's bad, but consistently wrong is still wrong. Bring on the roboumps, I'm tired of these guys being such a focal point of baseball.
  2. Gameday shows each ball to Votto clearly off the corner. It has been a poorly umpired series but we are picking the wrong battle repeatedly here. It was not a strike. He was close but missed the spot. Close does not count as a strike.
  3. Hiura is gone in any deal for Thor or DeGrom. There is just no way around that.
  4. Yet you don't want to trade Hiura. So who are you going to get out there that has a higher upside than Fulmer without trading Hiura?
  5. Sort of having a 'feeling bad for Zagurski as a human being' moment right now. I'm sure worked his butt off for years to make it again. Probably thought he would never make it back after 5 years at age 35 and he made it and it goes like that. I'm sure he knows it's all over now.
  6. When you run a seven men pen, it is hard to hide more than 1 guy from leverage situations if you have a few tight games in a row. Pen should be at 8 ... always. Which brings us back to carrying the "day-to-day" boo-boo guys on the active roster argument that we've talked circles about. This team seems hamstrung by low numbers at least once a week. That just doesn't seem right. Yep. You can't go day to day with 3 guys on your roster without paying the piper at some point. Start actually taking advantage of the 10 day DL. Its there to help you, guys. Houser and Lopez should be up tomorrow, Braun DLed and Zagurski should be en route home after the game.
  7. When you run a seven men pen, it is hard to hide more than 1 guy from leverage situations if you have a few tight games in a row. Which is why even having Zagurski on the roster was incredibly stupid. Who would have thought having a 7+ career ERA 35 year old who hasn't pitched in 5 year would be a bad idea? Just a 'cute' move attempt and now huge egg in the face. I'd be quite annoyed if I'm Houser or Lopez.
  8. I'm not excusing Stearns. This was stupid. But I'm sure Counsell is involved in the process and for all we know Zagurski is the guy he wanted.
  9. 1) These umps are a disgrace. This entire series. They are so bad at their job, it's a complete embarrassment and nothing is ever done. 2) Zagurski was a dumb promotion/callup. You had other options guys, this one is on you. You got cute with your 40th guy and you're paying for it today. Stop keeping better guys down who deserve opportunities.
  10. As a PH...honestly...getting on base and getting runs in is pretty good. No power? I will suffer. That's totally situation dependent. Down 3 runs heading into the 8th? Sure, give me a guy who gets on to lead off the inning. Down 5-2 with 2 outs and runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 out in the 9th, a little different type of pinch hitter desired.
  11. I guess if extra basehits are totally meaningless it's a good line. A .659 OPS is still not very good.
  12. Good way to start the inning with a pair of walks. Especially when pitch 9 was a K.
  13. Come on Travis. You can't stand there and stare at that on a 2 strike count with the bases loaded. Feels like we should have about 20 runs in the last 2 games.
  14. Can't blame them as Aguilar can't seem to solve Mahle. Definitely having a birthday to forget.
  15. Kratz is pretty bad. I hope we end up with a catching upgrade at some point.
  16. Villar is going to see his playing time whittled down to nothing if he doesn't get it together soon.
  17. I'm sorry he's hurt. I'm not heartbroken he won't be back in the rotation anytime soon.
  18. Addison Reed just getting hammered today ERA up to 4.26. I remember when he went to the Twins for 2/17 and we all thought the Twins got a sweet bargain. Maybe there's a good reason Stearns wasn't interested in getting involved in the 7-8M a year reliever market this last offseason.
