  1. I would like to say that I appreciate that the game threads appropriately list the game time as 3:10 CDT, Central Daylight Time, as they correctly list it every time. So many people/sites just slap the word "Standard" after a time zone, as in Central Standard Time, and assume it is right. No, it is not. "Standard" time is the time in effect when Daylight Savings is not in effect. It is not just an unnecessary filler word. That is all.
  2. With some exceptions, most good righty hitters destroy lefty pitching and have much more modest numbers against righties. I'm not too worried about it.
  3. You don't DL guys just to DL them, but consistently playing with a 23 or 24 man roster isn't the answer either. There are times this season where I do think we could be a little bit better at managing the roster in that respect. Some teams quite frequently use that 10 day as a way of managing minor injuries while still playing with a normal roster, that was a big reason of why it was implemented in the first place. There's a happy medium here, and a lot has to do with how valuable and replaceable the player is. Someone like Eric Sogard should never be 'day to day', if he cannot go he is easily replaced. Playing a man down because Sogard cannot play for 3-4 days is just a waste of a roster spot for 3-4 days. Someone like Shaw or Yelich you definitely want to have more patience with especially if you think the problem can be resolved in a couple days.
  4. Merrifield is kind of a Shaw-like late bloomer and would be a really nice target. He can do a little bit of it all, base stealer, hit for a nice average, and get on base a little bit. Every bit the contact hitter, does not K much. Not a ton of power in his career but then hit 19 out of nowhere last year, so who knows. Defense is about average at 2nd. Limited to 2nd in the infield but can play anywhere in the OF when needed. Not young but should remain productive through 2022 which is the last year of his control. I would be excited to get him but frankly a bit sad because I'd be thinking at that point that Keston almost inevitably gets traded for pitching.
  5. Agreed. You'd have a chance to get a young, controllable starter for a return that might be more easy to stomach. I'd think there's a stronger chance of the Brewers making this type of deal than a huge C.C.-esque deal. Fulmer for Burnes + Woodruff + Santana + Gatewood seems like a reasonable offer off the top of my head. Too much? Not enough?
  6. ...But he is. He's been better this year than every starter other than Guerra thus far, and is 25 and in his third MLB season and under control until 2023. I'm not saying we should give up the farm for him, but he would absolutely be an upgrade. I actually think Fulmer would be a great acquisition. Controlled through 2022, young, and has possible ace upside and you may be buying a little low right now. You could end up with a young ace arm without paying a Syndergaard or DeGrom price tag. Don't get me wrong he won't come cheap but unlike Syndergaard or DeGrom I think there's an actual possibility of landing him without Hiura.
  7. The trainers need to introduce these guys to stretching.
  8. The Brewers would probably trade Villar, but if they can't get an offer I doubt they move on before Sogard. I honestly don't know if Villar has an option left, I am thinking no. If he does, he could very well see time in AAA. But they're on the hook for him this year so they won't just dump him. It's a problem for him if they don't like him anywhere but 2nd and he can't get PT at 2nd, though. Sogard they can move on anytime for all I care, but I expect him to survive at least til the AS break. Arcia, barring a significant offensive improvement, probably goes down when Saladino returns, I agree. With Broxton, I think some perspective is probably needed -- it's just one game, and he wasn't exactly destroying AAA pitching where it is likely that anything big is sustainable. That said, I don't hate the idea of keeping him around as a 5th OFer. He can offer a lot off the bench -- some pop, some speed, and as a late defensive replacement. With the defensive sacrifices we are making in the OF Broxton might fit well as a bench guy.
  9. I mean I love what Broxton did yesterday, and he's worth too much to just give away. That said, I think most MLB GMs are probably too wise to significantly alter their valuation of a player based on a 2 game sample.
  10. This is why Jennings is the "Oh good we got a bunch of runs, go warm up" guy in the pen.
  11. Seriously, just when I thought this umpire couldn't get more pathetic tonight, he called the first pitch to Barnhart a strike and after ball 1 said "Nope, its 2-0."
  12. On an 0-2 pitch too. Good to see the vintage 2017 Brewers lineup getting it done tonight. Broxton doubled Sogard's season RBI total tonight.
  13. Williams, but he even worked yesterday. Whatever that guy's name is that we called up yesterday with a 7 career ERA which would be very preferable not to see him in any game under a 10 run lead.
  14. This homeplate umpire is having just an Angel Hermamdez type embarrassment of a game.
  15. Not the most conventional way to grab that 3rd run but probably the wise idea not to leave it up to a clutch hit.
  16. They almost need to DL him. You can't go day to day with 2 outfielders and Shaw basically the same. They have 2 infielders playing outfield at the moment, with no defensive substitutes to put in.
  17. A simple blown strike call tonight literally had the same affect as allowing a solo homerun. Really pisses me off. These guys do affect games with their performance, or lack thereof.
  18. Zach Davies is getting absolutely shelled in his rehab start in Appleton.
  19. What an absolute horsecrap 3-0 strike call to Broxton, cost us a run. I absolutely hate umpires that basically give you anything close on 3-0 and tighten up significantly on 0-2.
  20. Broxton's best shot of staying up is to figure out how to play shortstop or catcher in the next week or so.
  21. Gotta start doing a better job cashing in on all this traffic.
  22. So let's trade a Peralta whos pitching like an Ace and our top prospect as well as other prospects for another Ace. And then put more salary on the books. Yeah, I like sending $100 to get $90.00. I wasn't advocating trading for Syndergaard/DeGrom; in fact I have been pretty fully against it in this thread, and I love Peralta but to slap the 'ace' label on him and compare him to DeGrom and Syndergaard after 4 career starts is more than a tad bit of a reach.
  23. I wonder if you could center a Machado deal around Arcia. We get Machado, the Orioles get their SS of the future for a rental. Then you can roll with Dubon next year.
  24. The reason Machado would be so big for us, is because of how bad Arcia is.
  25. Little dissatisfying to scratch out only 1 when you start an inning with 3 singles, but at least we're on the board.
