  1. His numbers are still totally deserving. More than deserving. He most likely won't make it but his resume is still plenty good enough.
  2. These close plays stealing 3rd with 2 outs are getting kind of silly. These are plays that people destroyed Villar for even trying in the last year or two.
  3. Seriously not totally sure that ball doesn't go sailing over Santana's head.
  4. I'll give credit for that nice contact to Arcia. And even though he went nowhere it cleared the pitcher's spot. There's value in that.
  5. sounds like you know a lot about what the Mets are looking for in a trade Evaluating trade value based on past precedence, performance, control, salary, etc. isn't that hard. It's not a perfect science of course but they're obviously not looking for Gilbert Lara and Caden Lemons.
  6. Too bad he wasn’t out there playing RF for that ball. Seriously though, as long as he's got the arm for it I don't mind Thames in RF as a way of getting him and Aguilar both in. It's not like you're losing good D from the guy who started the year there. At some point if they want to jumpstart this offense they'll need to decide how much defense they're willing to sacrifice and get their best bats in there.
  7. Looked no worse than Santana out there, honestly. Tracked it well, got there well. But yeah, he's gotta catch that.
  8. Get Cain, Yelich, Aguilar, Thames, and Shaw in your lineup basically every day and you should be in pretty good shape, in theory.
  9. Just to play devil's advocate, even if you did really want those two guys from L.A, you're giving up way, way too much value. Woodruff is a borderline top 100 prospect and Barnes is a very controlled late inning type reliever who strikes out over a batter an inning for his career and is having a career year. You are getting very bad value for what you're giving up. Barnes alone would have to bring back more than Jackson and Walker.
  10. No, Hiura is not even close in value to what Moncada was worth. Moncada was the #1 prospect in baseball. Kopech to Peralta is an enormous stretch as well but at least closer. Phillips is not a 'top 100 piece' at this point. He's bordering closer to an AAAA type at this point than anything that any GM is going to attach real strong value to. You're not going to get Thor or DeGrom with a quantity over quality package that doesn't include Hiura. I simply don't see any way of that happening. Yes, they're going to demand him, and even *if* we make the best offer with somehow omitting Hiura and one of Burnes/Peralta, they'll pass and wait for a better trade market as they have no strong incentive to make sure they're dealt by the deadline.
  11. I'm kind of surprised by this. Burnes is arguably the best starting prospect in the system, has been a starter his entire professional career and the pen is already in pretty good shape. Surprised they would change his trajectory even for this year, although I suppose you can argue it's the only way he's going to help us this year as he's going to hit an innings limit early as a starter.
  12. Also I am very tired and first read this as 'Keston Hiura to Nationals.'
  13. Machado is extremely likely to get an opt-out. He's a 25 year old star player at a premium position hitting free agency. Just because you don't want to give him that option doesn't mean there won't be 10 other GMs that will if they want to get him. If you wanted to get him without an opt out you'd basically have to blow everyone else away in terms of average annual and total value to the point where it would never really make sense for him to opt out. I do agree the Brewers aren't signing Machado and any trade for him would be a pure rental with nothing to show for it beyond what they get from him this year.
  14. It's not a big haul, but it's not an insignificant return, either. Something comparable on our end might have been Dubon + Gatewood + Braden Webb. I think that would have been tough for many to stomach for a rental. Maybe not, I really don't know.
  15. I'm kind of with Turbo on this one. What does it say to Shaw and Aguilar to make a comment like that? If you're annoyed about the offense Craig, which you should be, make some damn changes instead of calling out the guys who don't deserve to be called out. You've got 2 pretty nice young catchers in Colorado Springs that you refuse to give any sort of long look to. You continue to keep Arcia up despite his atrocious offense. You inexplicably continue to employ Eric Sogard and have wasted nearly 100 plate appearances on him this year despite numerous better options. To Craig's point, I shudder to think where this offense would be without Yelich and Cain. Aside from that, you've got a good thing with the Thames/Aguilar platoon, and Shaw, and that's about it. Despite his bad luck Braun just flat out isn't that good anymore for a corner OF/1B bat, yet you continue to put him in a run producing slot in the order. I have no idea why Santana is even still up. I'm also totally done with Darnell Coles and can't understand why the organization isn't. His fault or not, he's got a several year track record now of inconsistent feast or famine offenses which seem to remain the case despite a rebuilt lineup. For him to get to add Cain and Yelich to his lineup in the off season and somehow pull off being shutout 10 times before the end of June is just a remarkable accomplishment in a very bad way.
  16. Double digit times shutout by June. Don't see DeGrom or Syndergaard being very helpful at fixing that.
  17. I honestly think people have just gotten so used to Orlando Arcia defense at SS that anything less seems like a disaster. Brad Miller types at SS aren't unusual around the league. He's got over 3,000 innings at the position. There isn't a gold glove slugging shortstop out there for the getting. If we want to upgrade offensively at the position we do have to sacrifice.
