  1. Cain is just so solid in every aspect. You doubt we can get 5 years of this but he's going to earn a whole lot of it off the bat.
  2. I hope you’re wrong I am. I thought they'd either pull him or double switch to keep him in. Surprised they let him lead off the inning.
  3. Jennings in for one out. Which means Saladino is going to get double switched out for Sogard to get more innings out of Jennings.
  4. I never thought I'd be ok seeing Tyler Saladino in the lineup every day, but I'm good with it right now.
  5. ?? Chacin has a career 3.90 ERA. Davies 3.99. Which is more accurate Chacin is going to continue being a 3.90 ERA pitcher at the age of 30 or Davies improving his career 3.99 at the age of 25. Yeah I am going to bet on Davies being that 3.9 ERA type pitcher and Chacin being more closer to a 4.50 ERA type pitcher. I have also bolded and underlined for clearer understanding for type of a pitcher. Which is completely different than career stats. Not sure why that is so hard to understand. It's not hard to understand, its just wrong and silly, and you are totally backtracking and changing your story and context to fit your argument. You didn't say anything about what you expected going forward, you said Chacin has been a 4.50 ERA pitcher over the course of HIS CAREER, implying past, based on what, I have no idea. Dude spent most of his career at Coors, you think you'd be upgrading him, not downgrading him from his actual 3.90 ERA to a 4.50 ERA "type". It's also pretty silly to accuse others of ignoring stats and then when others point out that those stats prove you wrong, base your argument off a completely arbitrary 'type' definition with absolutely nothing to back it up.
  6. I'm not writing off Anderson (or Villar), but right now, they are textbook examples of why if I'm in my 20's and my employer offers me more money guaranteed than my family may ever otherwise see in their entire lifetimes, I'm taking it. Villar didn't. Chase did.
  7. C'mon Jesus. Dude has walked the previous two and you chase that.
  8. C'mon Braun. Long ball and we're right back in this.
  9. Just can't walk 3 guys in an inning. Can't do it. Especially when one is to a pitcher quality hitter.
  10. And now he walks Reyes to walk in a run who is even worse than Sogard. Lovely.
  11. Because Davies is a far better pitcher than Chacin. Chacin is a #4 at best type of a pitcher not sure why you would want him to be a #3 type starter but hey lets ignore stats and just go by whatever comes off the top of your head. Chacin over his career is about a 4.50 ERA type pitcher. Davies over his short career in the majors so far has been about a 3.90 ERA pitcher. You seriously think Chacin is the better pitcher? ?? Chacin has a career 3.90 ERA. Davies 3.99. Probably should look these things up before snapping at other posters for ignoring stats and going with whatever comes off the top of their head.
  12. Stop walking guys. Especially to lead off an inning. It's not a lot to ask.
  13. https://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article/20474/baseball-therapy-what-is-a-good-hitting-coach-worth/ This article is a bit dated, but still a relevant study into the value of a hitting coach. Their conclusions were more drastic than you'd think, but they determined that like a pitching coach, a good hitting coach can be worth a great deal, in the 4 win type area.
  14. Aside from one guy who said they would take Sogard over Villar and pretty much everyone disagreed with him, does anyone really trash Villar anymore? Winning run last night? Do you really think that anyone is going to change their opinion and want Sogard starting over Villar based on one single AB?
  15. I want nothing to do with Hamels. He is absolutely due for some regression. FIP around 5, velocity still down, and he's turned into an extreme flyball pitcher, really bad fit for Miller Park. Pitching isn't a current need and will be even less so when Nelson returns, if they didn't see starting pitching as a need in March knowing Nelson was going to miss half the season, I don't see how they'll see it as a need with his return becoming imminent. I just don't understand the desire to both give up prospects and pay high price tags for pitcher based on a name when the reality is that they're not even close to guaranteed to be better than Peralta or Burnes. On very rare occasions it works out like with Verlander last year; more often than not you just end up paying a lot of money for mediocrity.

  17. Wouldn't say that yet. He started yesterday. He almost never starts against lefties. Which is kind of weird because if you look at his career numbers he is better as a righty but more recently he's far better as a lefty.
  18. Cain has been worth 2.7 WAR this year and Shaw 2.3, wow. Those would be respectable end of season numbers.
  19. I can't argue with Braun against lefties. I'd like to argue against him batting 3rd but Shaw wouldn't be a better option against a lefty, he doesn't hit lefties well. I actually kind of thought we might see Shaw off and Aguilar at 3rd and Santana in but I understand not wanting to sit Shaw.
  20. Do they ever have relievers on the final fan vote that they do for the AS game every year?
  21. Any deal sending Hiura to KC definitely needs to include Merrifield too. I would probably do Perez+Merrifield for Hiura, but I doubt that's enough and I wouldn't go crazy giving much more.
  22. Yeah its apparent they've gone back to the traditional "Corey is our 9th inning guy" approach which is just baffling to me. This pen is by far at its best playing matchups, giving guys multiple innings when they're right, and ignoring traditional roles. So of course they go back to the conventional approach. I really hope Craig learns from this, fortunate it didn't cost them the game.
