  1. I think it's far more likely that he had a nice circumstantial run of 150 or so ABs than just somehow went from a mediocre career journeyman to a good player in his 30s. You can't chalk his slow start up to small sample while using small samples of good hitting from last year to defend him.
  2. Gotta stop giving up runs on walks. We did it today in the first, we did it a couple times yesterday. Can't get beat by walks.
  3. At some point actual results matter too. We're only talking about 50 or so ABs Actually we're talking about 1,500 major league ABs as a roughly replacement level player.
  4. Don't hear much about it when he's not in the lineup.
  5. You could at least try to defend your points without being completely condescending.
  6. Dozier is a far better player than Walker. He's very consistent, 2 years younger, and has averaged 4.5 WAR per year every full year he's been in the league. I don't know what it would take to get Dozier but yes I think it's definitely going to take a top 10 organizational prospect, or at the very least, several interesting top 30 guys. They can just make him a QO and take the comp pick, so they're not going to just give him away and there will probably be a market for him if they put him on the block. The Twins already turned down DeLeon for Dozier from the Dodgers, who was around the #30 prospect in all of baseball. Granted he's now a rental so that hurts his value, but you can't just send them Gilbert Lara and call it a day. I would guess it takes a guy from the Ray/Grisham/Ponce tier of prospects to get them motivated enough to consider it. And I would guess, unless his production falls off a cliff this season, that the Lorenzo Cain deal will be a lot closer comp to Dozier's next deal than Neil Walker.
  7. Braun back in the lineup today. Sogard, incredibly, gets his 3rd consecutive start.
  8. Offensive numbers in Colorado Springs are next to worthless to read anything from. Everyone rakes in Colorado Springs. Conversely, Hiura hits in a very pitcher friendly league. Hiura's. 778, while still not bad, is very misleading. He had a terrible 2 week start which buried his statistical numbers. Since then he's been back to doing what he does. I do agree on the point about his defense probably still being too untested to see MLB this season. But I'm not the least concerned about his bat.
  9. Is Hiura an option at midseason if he can play in the field at that time? I've been on record saying Hiura's ETA should be mid 2019, not mid 2018. Still, I can't help but wonder if he keeps raking like he has lately and our middle infield continues to be a disaster hole in the lineup if they would consider accelerating that timeline. He'll be 22 the first week in August so while he's obviously young, it's certainly not unprecedented. He would obviously assume everyday 2B duties with Villar presumably going to a utility role.
  10. Boston dismantling the 76ers makes me feel a little better about our series.
  11. Nice win! Lot of pitches for Josh tonight, wouldn't plan on seeing him tomorrow.
  12. I can appreciate any ump who doesn't like to make it about himself and doesn't just automatically ring a guy up just for disagreeing. But, go sit down Cervelli, you got away with one too, either way you were struck out.
  13. They've....been pretty careful with Sogard tonight. I'm starting to wonder if I've time travelled back to 11 months ago.
  14. Hader back in for the 9th? They do have a day off Monday coming up too.
  15. Great job by Braun coming through with the big hit, but to be honest, he literally somehow saw 7 mistake pitches in his last 3 ABs. They were bound to not get let off the hook eventually and I'm glad he didn't let them off the hook.
  16. As long as Sogard does absolutely nothing besides stand up there, good things happen. Are the glasses just that intimidating?
  17. What an absolutely stupid move. Counsell channeling his inner Ron Roenicke. You never, ever bunt with 2 strikes unless you've got a pitcher up.
  18. Arcia for Pina is kind of a ...weird decision. Unless there was a double switch earlier and I totally missed it.
  19. At least we got that extra run on the wild pitch so it's only tied and we're not trailing. Still can hopefully pull this out. But yeah, walks suck. I can tip my cap to a solo shot, but never good to put an extra run on the board from a free pass.
  20. Hader's command just not the greatest tonight. That's the only time he becomes vulnerable, when he gets behind in counts and they just sit dead red on his fastball.
  21. I guess? They have the 4th worst pen in the NL by ERA, so someone is hitting these guys. I guess just "stuff". Feliz and Vasquez last night were electric. Santana was mid upper 90s as is Crick. Brewers certainly not hitting them much. Yeah I mean raw stuff is one thing, but usable stuff is another. Neftali Feliz had excellent stuff but was a disaster. Nice thing about our pen is we've got both.
  22. If we have a 2 run cushion I might go Barnes in the 8th until he gets in trouble or gets through the inning. If you use Hader for 1 he's available tomorrow, 2 is iffy.
