  1. No I agree. I don't see it. The first time we traded him he was still a young prospect and we were going for it with Greinke, and the second time we were sellers which hopefully won't apply the next 3 years.
  2. I hope we don't end up trading Jeffress this time around. That'd be sad. Given we aren't sellers though I don't think it will happen for his contract. On that note though Ranger fans must be looking at his numbers thinking "What the HELL." Lol
  3. Boy, you would have liked to add some insurance there and not have to send Jeffress out again. Tough to get 2nd and 3rd with 0 out and end up with nothing.
  4. Rockies scored 11 runs off Cubs pitching today. That's 2 more runs than we have scored against them in 8 games.
  5. I can't wait to get out of Colorado Springs. At least from a fan standpoint it just makes evaluation of both pitchers and hitters next to impossible.
  6. Agreed, looking back at his 11 appearances this year, he had 2 blow ups and 1 so-so, other than those he was decent. The one time i saw him this year, 4/2 Cardinals, I thought he was very effective. Having said that, does he belong on the Brewers? No, this team has much better options, but some team like the Reds, Marlins or KC, he would be a huge upgrade over what they have now. So Oliver, thank you for your time here and thank you for your service to this country. Good Luck! I can get on board with all of this. I hope he catches on elsewhere and I think he will. We just have too many good options to keep him now.
  7. And Briggs brought up some good points about Perez seeing action at SS lately possibly being a sign that Sogard's days are numbered and the point about replacement options for him available like Dubon and Orf. I don't see anything wrong with what he said. And Sogard is totally a Briggs guy and Villar is not, FWIW.
  8. Phillips will be optioned down again, that's pretty much a foregone conclusion. It pretty much comes down to Suter vs. Williams. Williams is obviously the better, more powerful arm. He's quietly been excellent with a K/9 over 15 and an ERA under 2. He's just been overshadowed by how good the whole pen has been. But Suter is a lefty and good for multiple innings if needed. So I don't know what they do. They'll already have 2 lefties in the pen -- my preference would be to option Suter and keep him stretched out in Colorado Springs just in case, but we'll see what they do.
  9. I really don't care about his batting average. I'd rather have a .220 hitter with a .330 OBP than a .270 hitter with a .295 OBP. Considering where he bats in the line-up...definitely will take the AVG. Today is a fantastic example. A walk would have been utterly worthless with who comes up behind him. Regardless he is hitting .273 with an OBP of .313...not the example you are using. If we want to talk about sad...Orlando Arcia's horrid split between his average and OBP% despite the pitcher behind him. You would think he would walk more just to get to the pitcher. I'm starting to think that you don't like Orlando Arcia.
  10. Jeffress gets thrust into a bases loaded jam again, this time with 1 out, once again gets out of it, and then goes 1-2-3 in the 9th like it's no big whoop. This rotation might not have a true ace, but this bullpen has 2.
  11. I really don't care about his batting average. I'd rather have a .220 hitter with a .330 OBP than a .270 hitter with a .295 OBP.
  12. Oh I'm not disputing that the other options are worse. Just saying for the most part a Villar 2018 resurgence is mostly myth so far.
  13. Seems a little misleading, assuming we only bring him into a game we are already leading Not really, maybe a little, but I'm assuming he would only be used in very tight games either way, maybe ties or with a 1 run lead like last night. We obviously wouldn't use him down 10-0, but we wouldn't use him up 10-0 either, and sometimes like tonight he won't be available regardless of score because of how he is used. Point being he's obviously very impactful.
  14. Well, that was an unceremonious return to the bigs for Phillips.
  15. Yes....CC said it before the game apparently Wish we had him here, not a good start for Barnes. Ugly stat, we are 6-13 in games that Hader doesn't pitch.
  16. And Arcia better get to every ball in the infield the way he hits. Well, this was prophetic...
  17. No, he has not. He's become almost exclusively a singles hitter, can't take a walk and has an even lower OPS than last year. (At least up to his last AB) Bout the best thing I can say is that his defense has seemed okay and when that's the best compliment you can find for JV that's not a good thing.
  18. And Arcia better get to every ball in the infield the way he hits. To some extent, I agree. Pina has been such a let down though. I would argue that to this point Arcia has been a bigger letdown based on being a top 10 prospect who isn't as far along as we'd have hoped. Pina was just a guy and happened to beat out his competition this year. Pina is definitely roster worthy but I agree he's more suited to be a backup catcher. He's got the defensive skills to profile as a nice defensive catcher, just would like to have someone like Realmuto as a starter.
  19. Jeffress should definitely get some work tonight. Maybe Taylor Williams too. Read something yesterday, I think it was from McCalvy, that said it sounds like Williams isn't going anywhere when Logan returns. Nor should he. Drake is on borrowed time already, but I thought he had no real chance to crack the roster this year so who really knows.
  20. Is Hader definitely unavailable tonight? 37 pitches last night.
  21. Tons of leadoff runners on for Chase today. Given Counsell's tendencies for short leashes on his starters, kind of surprised he's still out there.
