And yet another scoring chance by the wayside. Given that this team hasn't won a game trailing after 8 all season, looking like a poor start to the series .

Took some tough pitches, and swings at one way inside. Wish he would take a walk every now and then. Its a shame because he can do pretty much everything else, hit for some power, runs well, can play serviceable D anywhere, but his plate eye is just the worst and it doesn't look like that will ever change. Johnny Estrada-like eye.

Scahill in to try to put this fire out. Even if it works out, I'm just at a loss. Has Stearns instructed Counsell to do whatever it takes to put us back in rebuild mode?

Suter just getting pounded. If its between him and Scahill to get this last out, neither seem all that likely to keep us from trailing 4-2 momentarily.

What are you talking about Rock? 'No reason' for Arcia to make that throw? If the throw is perfect they have a play at the plate.

There could have been a very good reason, as I outlined above. If Knebel, Barnes, and Hader were all unavailable literally the 3rd game after the AS break, we need to do a little better job managing the pen.

I was critical of Webb over Hader in the game thread, but in retrospect today, I get it. Webb is a strikeout pitcher too, not just Hader, but Webb doesn't walk guys, Hader does. So you throw in Hader with no margin for error like that with the bases loaded and no one out and the game is lost. Webb made his pitch, Williams hit it out. Sucks, but happens. Also agree that Scahill is the bigger issue, he shouldn't be on the roster much less pitching in a 1 run game. There's no reason Hader couldn't have taken the 6th and 7th innings, so I would have led with him in the 6th. But once the bases were loaded I understand Webb over Hader, situatuonally.

Blazek and maybe another pen arm for insurance. Brinson and Phillips for sure. Maybe Cordell. Bandy I would think, may as well have a 3rd catcher. So somewhere between 4-6 guys.

Even if you have a 90% shot of making it there is 0 reason to risk it down 3 in the 9th. They need 3, in that situation he can cruise to 2nd on defensive indifference in the next AB if he wants to.

Why would you use Vogt for Broxton there? Broxton hasn't been playing great but is the tying run and has the power to even it up. I just don't get Counsell today .
