  1. This team isn't even going to get out of July with the division lead.
  2. Heck I would take the K record being snapped for a game ending double play.
  3. He was mad he didn't show the catch Lol why? He's obviously going to throw it back in if he has it.
  4. I like how Jaso got mad that Broxton caught it. Like, how dare you.
  5. Sonny Gray isn't a front line starter currently any more than Chase Anderson or Jimmy Nelson currently is one or Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, Josh Hader or Luis Ortiz could or couldn't be one. I'm not against getting Gray but if we expect to be acquiring a TOR starter we will be disappointed .
  6. Can't disagree more. You think the Cubs saw the acquisition of Quintana as management not believing in them? It reinforced that they believed in them. The 82 Brewers were a veteran talented team with 3 HOFers and in first place. When Sutton arrived, they knew management wanted it all, just like them. They were energized, even though Sutton really was just okay until the big money last game. Players would see a significant acquisition now as a signal that management believes in them. This is more like 92. That Brewer team fought like heck to stay with the Blue Jays, but when the Jays went out and got David Cone while the Brewers did absolutely nothing, it was basically over. Not even close to the same thing . The 92 team was a veteran team on their last legs of contention. This team is basically the budding of a foundation, maturing early but still with their best days ahead. If Stearns does nothing, why doesn't it say that "I believe in you guys as the foundation for the Milwaukee Brewers . My plan is a lot bigger than to feel that if we don't go for it now, you guys won't get us back here again . I don't know if this is our time yet, but I'd like to find out with you guys. If it's not, I know we'll have more chances with you guys. There are many different ways to interpret doing nothing here, but to interpret it as Stearns not believing in these guys is ridiculous IMO .
  7. I'm not against making this move or upgrading. I just think the theory that doing nothing is a message to the players that he doesn't believe in them is ridiculous. It indicates the opposite if anything.
  8. Let me see if I understand you correctly. Stearns going forward with the current group of 1st place players, that he assembled, and not trading any of them, indicates to them that he does not believe in them . If he traded for someone externally, replacing one or more of the current players who have "done their jobs", and perhaps trading others currently within our organization, that would indicate to the players that he does believe in them . Ok.
  9. Spitballs, gloveless catchers, 500 inning seasons for pitchers, and segregation used to be part of the game too. Things change . I understand what you are saying, I just don't agree with it, and I don't think things always even out over 162 games. They've already had studies this year on who has benefited from the most blown calls, with the Dodgers far and away benefiting the most. I guess whether they do a great job depends on your perspective -- in comparison to what the average Joe could do, I suppose so, but you'd be amazed at just how many balls and strikes alone are called incorrectly just over the course of a single game.
  10. So it's Stearns' fault for not getting into a bidding war for Quintana. Gotta love it. The Cubs were going to get help before the deadline whether it was Quintana or someone else. We cannot go out and outbid them for every upgrade they want.
  11. How does it take the nuance out of pitching and catching? Pitchers are still going to look for weaknesses and try to hit corners. How does that change anything other than discovering, "Hey, this umpire is giving 3 inches off the outside corner unfairly, so let's try to hit that spot that isn't a strike but will be called a strike." That's the part of the game you want to preserve? I for one enjoy the fact that baseball is imperfect and subject to human nuance and error. Wish that they would take away instant replay for the same reason. To each their own I guess . I do not enjoy seeing hard fought games and even pennant races decided when a 55 year old man gets caught up in the emotion of the game and expands the strike zone by 3 inches with 2 outs in the 9th. I enjoy watching the 50 people involved in each game play the game within the best of their abilities and would like to see them exclusively decide games and races. Santana should have scored earlier in the game which would have made it 4-4 and Shaw should have been on 1st with nobody out in the 8th. These might have tilted the game in our favor. Maybe we go on to lose the division or miss the playoffs by 1 game. They have the technology to fix that . To me that's not acceptable that we should be robbed of that opportunity in the name of nostalgia.

  13. So...people in favor of a machine aren't looking for one that just guesses? I have no idea what you are asking here . You know they have the technology to call the zone with totsl accuracy, right?
  14. What a free fall. We have lost 1.5 games in the standings. Time to tear down and rebuild again. No, we have lost 2.5, will be either 2 or 3 depending on what happens with the Cubs tonight.
  15. Since the first game since the break, haven't scored more than 3 runs in a game. It's not the pitching .
  16. The umpire would still be there to actually call the strike. Yeah I got that, my problem isn't with who actually says strike, it's with a machine determining it. You enjoyed seeing a middle aged man with a huge ego determine it tonight?
  17. Just your typical rally-tease from the Brewers. Still 0fer when trailing after 8. But they sure are grinders!
  18. I really can't understand anyone who is still against turning the strike zone over to machines. These guys are a joke. Despite all the talk about how good they are at their job, they're not. They miss calls left and right .
  19. If there's any justice in this world, we'll come back and win this, but I wouldn't count on it.
  20. Phantom 3rd strike call didn't help either. These umpires suck.
