  1. Medeiros, Taylor Williams, and Bickford all seem like pen guys to me. Maybe Hader too. I think Woodruff has the best shot of that bunch including Hader to be a rotation fixture. In the next 3 years I see this system cranking out a lot of power relievers and not too many starters. But that's not a terrible thing.
  2. I will say that while I do personally like BA, I actually understand this sentiment too. And I think that part of the reason that he gets so much national work is that he is both good (at least IMO) and fairly vanilla at the same time. And it's probably part of the reason I like BA and Rock. I don't need much from the announcers to love watching, in fact a couple guys who just narrate and don't overpower the broadcast are great. Right. I don't expect everyone to like BA, but I do think he's good at his job. Perhaps 'everyone else sucks' isn't the best bar to set for our commentators, but I think people underestimate the difficulty of filling 3+ hours of air time every single day. It's just not going to happen in a way that suits everyone. Personally I do think he shows good enthusiasm for the team without being Sutton over the top about it.
  3. I more meant he'd be the centerpiece of a package we'd put together in order to get pitching. Right, but he'd have to be the 3rd or 4th best player/prospect in a trade for Quintana IMO. I'm not sure that Cordell or Erceg (time will tell) fit above Broxton by much. Personally I think you're undervaluing Broxton, though I know his value is tough to peg. .800 OPS centerfielders with solid D (I know he hasn't showed great D this year but still believe he is one) and almost 6 years of cheap cost control aren't easy to come by. Looking at what the Rays got for Logan Forsythe, a top 30 prospect, that is at least the kind of value I would expect Stearns to place on Broxton. I'm not saying for sure we could get that, but that's how I'd expect him to be valued by us.
  4. Strictly within the farm system, Burnes to AA Supak to A+ Dubon to AAA Possibly: Diaz to AA, Ray to AA, Clark to AA, Ponce to AA, Medeiros to AA, Peralta to AA? Maybe Ortiz to AAA, but the AA/AAA movement is a little different for our pitchers for obvious reasons. Am I missing any significant ones? This is all subjective, of course; I really don't think Medeiros for instance seems fully ready yet, but at some point you do have to push the guys getting to be a year or two away from Rule 5 status to figure out if they can make the jump or not, and he'll have had a full year and a half in High A.
  5. The whole reason that they leave it up to the discretion of the home team up until first pitch is that they trust them that they know their field and conditions best. Obviously MLB is putting faith in teams by establishing what is essentially an honor system to not abuse the rule and use it as it's designed. We have a (somewhat) strict written cellphone policy at work. However, the actual understood practice and unwritten rule is that as long as you're smart about it, such as not being on it when you're supposed to be doing a specific task, or putting it away if we have corporate visitors, it's basically ignored. Occasionally, we have guys that ruin it for everybody because they're dumb about it, such as being on it while on a task (unsafe), or still on it when higher ups are around, and HR is forced to bring the hammer for awhile and crack down. The Cubs are that guy.
  6. Clark in particular I'm more impressed than worried. He's 20, we drafted him as an 18 year old kid, and he's on the cusp of AA. We talk about him like he's struggling and he's got a .371 OBP! If he ends up as a .371 OBP leadoff man in Milwaukee, I think we'd gladly take that and at his age there's still plenty of room for growth. When I look at Clark's upside, I see a possible rich man's Keon Broxton, and I'm a big Broxton fan. Some pop, a lot of speed, glove, the strikeouts will be there but so will the OBP. If he can stay at his current pace and have a completely healthy year, that will be just fine.
  7. If Erceg is our biggest disappointment this year, we're in good shape. We have Brinson, Phillips, Cordell, Woodruff, Gatewood, T. Williams, Burnes, Supak, Feliciano, and Ortiz performing at very high levels and the rest of our top 30 healthy players are more or less at or near expectations. It's been a very nice yesr for the farm so far. Really, Nottingham and Lara are my biggest disappointments of the top 30, but that's just something you'll have in any farm. Not all of these guys will pan out. But I'd say there's a lot more successes than failures in the top 30 so far this year. A lot is made of Ray and Clark, but really, these guys are fine. Not everyone will follow a Ryan Braun like path to the bigs.
  8. Me too. This guy is going to bring a World Series to Milwaukee, I really believe that. It won't happen this year, but it will eventually. But I trust his judgment, and I think he took this job with the understanding that he has complete control over personnel decisions.
  9. Hope so. Can't stand Anderson. At least your Nelson's and peraltas had the"stuff" to be hopeful. Chase is 89-91 average all around. Why is Davies immune? At the end of the day I think Anderson and Davies both are what they are -- back end of the rotation starters, #5 starters. You can get away with one in your rotation but it would be nice to replace the lesser performing one next season. Nelson still has the arm to be better than that, and it would be huge if he can put it all together for a full season. One strong trade or FA acquisition (going to use Odorizzi just as an example), and a 2018 rotation of Odorizzi, Guerra, Woodruff, Nelson, and one of Davies and Anderson would look respectable.
  10. Yeah Dubon definitely belongs in the surging category. I know Phillips is there but I still think he's being a little overlooked. He's really having a big bounceback year, and it's not all Colorado Springs, he's showing a strong OPS and power both at home and away.
  11. Have to believe he was told that he would only be up for a day.... I don't think they knew for sure. It was still kind of iffy on whether or not Braun would be able to return for sure or not when they called up Cravy.
  12. Nice when the farm brightens up a rough day for the MLB squad. 4-0, good work guys.
  13. Genius, the best part is that we will have year round baseball each year with the World Series right before Spring Training.
  14. This is exactly why I was so frustrated in that game thread when we were winning and still kind of am. I am still in sell mode with this team, at least a lot more than I am in buy mode but you know if we're hovering around a wildcard spot Attanasio is going to tell Stearns to either make or actively seek out win now moves. That's not what we should be doing at this point but it's looking increasingly likely to happen. I'm kind of mixed on buying as I've been very behind the rebuild and still feel they have a ways to go, but I get the desire if you're close to try to make a push and I get that you can only only have so many assets in the minors, that at some point you either need to promote them, trade them, or risk losing them. The only thing that I think is really important this time, and I do think Mark has learned from the past, is that you need controllable assets if you're going to buy. Absolutely no rentals for any prospects of value, and preferably nothing less than control through 2019.
  15. Why would you even burn another reliever in a 12 run game to get 1 out? Just have Franklin come in and throw it over the middle until he gets an out.
  16. Well we were due for one of these. Just sucks to have it come against the Cubs. I really wanted us to stick it to them after the 'rainout' yesterday.
  17. Schaill throws a WP for a run, runs over to cover 1st when he doesn't need to, then just stands there after getting the throw as another run comes home. Nice work.
  18. That brings us to 0 for about 67 with RISP today .
  19. What the hell is Keon looking for up there today?
  20. Why did we even bother trying to squeeze another inning out of Chase the way he pitched today, with the day off yesterday and tomorrow? Just dumb, Counsell.
  21. Predictable result leaving Chase out there for another inning.
  22. Thumbs down to the meat of the order. Had a chance to get back in it and all of Thames, Braun and Shaw with some very poor ABs.
  23. Really not the AB we needed from Braun there at all. He had a chance to walk several times, pop up is as bad as a K.
  24. Gotta have at least 3 this inning if we're going to make a game out of this .
  25. Good to see Bosio has kept his baseball figure from the early 90s.
