  1. Good thing this game isn't at Miller Park, or Chase has given up about 26 runs so far.
  2. Just get it over on 3-2 to the leadoff guy, Chase. If you can't get your curveball over for a strike with 3 balls, don't throw it.
  3. Don't get tossed, Franklin. What ever would we do without you.
  4. Nice! Santana has been really getting going at the plate lately.
  5. Gotta come away at least with 2 runs here.
  6. We'll take a leadoff 0-2 pitch to the foot anytime.
  7. Ok enough of this, let's get some offense going.
  8. True. Unfortunately we have said this for many years.
  9. Going to be the wrong kind of organizational sweep tonight if the MLB team can't turn it around .
  10. Cripes, Perdomo is just mowing us down.
  11. Sucks, but he just lost it in the lights. Happens.
  12. Didn't know any pitcher was capable of making the Padres' hitters look good. Kudos to Anderson for proving me wrong.
  13. Burgos the latest Sky Sox pitcher to wreck his ERA in one outing, yikes.
  14. Have to think that at least one of Thames or Shaw is available if we called up a reliever today, or we're REALLY short handed on the bench.
  15. It's 8 starts. He's still striking out almost a batter an inning, but most importantly, it's 8 starts. CC Sabathia had an ERA near 4 when we traded for him. Quintana has 150+ starts under his belt suggesting he's a frontline starter. The White Sox are not lowering their asking price based on 8 starts. I'd rather trade Brinson than Hader simply because of the need for pitching in our system vs. our need for outfielders, but one or the other is probably an absolute must in a deal to even start discussions.
  16. Looked much better? He's got an ERA over 6 and his FIP doesn't show much improvement from that. He's got the fastball and slider to succeed in the pen which is why I would advocate trying him there but I don't know that I've ever seen a pitcher make so many mistakes on 2 strike pitches and leave one out over the heart of the plate as I've seen Wily do this year.
  17. They should still be able to outright him without DFA'ing him. They would have to place him on waivers, but given his salary, he'd almost for sure go unclaimed, and he would accept the assignment to Colorado Springs since there's no way he'd want to forfeit a few million dollars. EDIT: Wait...I'm not totally sure about this but I think they are typically DFA'ed prior to being outrighted which would be consistent with what you just said.
  18. I would expect he needs to prove to people that he is better than the 5.12 FIP he put up last year if he's going to hang onto a rotation spot, and it's going to take more than 38 innings to do that.
  19. Peralta can be sent to AAA, can't he? Though that's an awfully expensive AAA pitcher, I'd have to think they'd do that before just cutting their losses and eating $4M. That or a trip to the pen.
  20. I guess I'm kind of surprised to see that the Brewers' defense ranks so badly because eye-test wise they haven't really seemed that bad to me. Shaw has seemed like a pretty good player there, Arcia has been mostly as expected, both catchers have seemed more than defensively capable. Even Villar after the horrid start has seemed fine to me since the first week. The only one who really strikes me as a defensive butcher is Santana, which isn't surprising, but I haven't really been overly concerned watching anyone else defensively. I'm not saying that the defensive metrics are wrong, but they're certainly surprising to me. Watching a defensive infield of Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks, Yuniesky Betancourt and Casey McGehee in a year we won 96 games, it's hard to believe this D isn't defensively superior.
  21. Not sure why they would, Broxton has a career. 919 OPS leading off, .954 batting 2nd, .898 batting 7th, and .695 batting 8th. Some of this is probably just statistical noise because of the very streaky nature of his career but it doesn't indicate any issue hitting near the top of the order for him .
  22. Gray is a guy who put up basically ace caliber numbers every year up until last year and had a huge down year. Nelson is more of a guy who has just been more or less a consistently mediocre starter his whole career. Gray obviously has some big red flags after last year but his best has been far superior to anything we've seen from Nelson, and he still has far superior career numbers even after last year. Value wise I really don't think they are that close.
  23. I agree on Wily as a starter. He doesn't deserve to stick around in the rotation once Guerra returns. Thing is, he's a sunk cost this year and his stuff is good enough when he's on that you may as well try to salvage him as a reliever. If it works out, great. If it doesn't, he's a non-tender guy after the year. Nelson probably has a little bit longer leash as a starter, but not much.
  24. 1) Villar 2) Sogard 3) Perez 4) Aguilar 5) Santana 6) Franklin 7) Bandy 8) Broxton 9) Anderson Ok, I've generally been happy with the lineups lately so I'm due to nitpick this one. - If you're going to give Thames a day off, which is fine once in awhile, why would you do it against a RHP? - Why is Counsell so against Broxton near the top of the order? He's been our hottest player for awhile, or one of them. Sogard seems like a weird choice for the 2 hole with the Sunday lineup. Anyway, prove me wrong and put up 8 runs regardless.
