  1. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/05/jhan-marinez-dfa-brewers-brent-suter.html?fv-home=true&post-id=92309 Since Suter was already on the 40, that brings the 40 man back down to 39.
  2. I'm not normally a big fan of the previous regime's strategy of using prospects as trade currency. However, I think we have a pretty unique OF situation. Look at all the current MLB players in our system that are already at least average or well above average players in our lineup, and capable of playing the OF: Thames, Braun, Santana, Broxton, and Perez. All of these guys are already probably above average players, just in different ways. Maybe Santana is "just" average at this point. Now in addition to those 5, we have two highly elite OF prospects in Brinson and Ray, and multiple very good OF prospects in Phillips, Cordell, and Clark. I may even be missing some. Something has to give, we can't keep all these guys. Sure, some of them aren't going to pan out, but one thing that they pretty much all have right now is trade value, and some a very good deal of it.
  3. I threw out Ray/Diaz/Phillips/Diplan which I don't agree is that far off at all. That's a top 30, a top 60, and borderline top 100s which include a guy who was a top 50 and is off to a great start in AAA. Maybe you'd have to substitute Brinson for Ray but if you do, Brinson/Diaz/Phillips/Diplan seems more than fair to me. Maybe substitute Clark for Phillips if you're dealing Brinson instead of Ray.
  4. But that's a major difference between a guy Quintana and a traditional buy. It's not specifically a 'win now' move. It's a move that you can make if you're not totally sure and you still have him for quite awhile and can move him again if things really don't work out with the rebuild. It's outside the box considering where we came into this year but I see the merit. I don't know why people are so eager to deal Knebel, he's very controlled yet and by far our best pen arm. You better get blown away if you're going to deal him.
  5. Hmm. Based on what they were asking over the winter I just don't think this is going to be enough for Chicago for Quintana alone much less for him and Robertson. There's a lot of good depth but only one top 100 guy in Ray and he's there more based on draft position than production. But it's hard to say, depends on who they value the most. There seems to be at least as much quality here as what we gave up for Greinke, but I don't see then packaging both pitchers for this either way. I'd rather do this than mine if it means keeping Diaz, even though I really like Dubon too.
  6. So say hypothetically, Corey Ray, Brett Phillips, Isan Diaz and Marcos Diplan for Quintana to get a deal done. Would it be worth that? That's probably the kind of level of return it would take. That's a lot, but for OFers you still have Clark at the lower levels and Brinson and Cordell at AAA, and Dubon likely gets a long look as the 2B of the future. Again it's a lot but if you think we're close, Quintana makes an enormous difference and really we still have everything pretty well covered in the farm.
  7. Quintana is under control through 2020. I'm not specifically advocating trading for him, it would depend on the offer, but if you're going to try to rent a pitcher to slot in near the top of your rotation hes exactly the kind of player you'd want. Lots of control and not expensive control. Easy to reverse course and flip back to someone else if the rebuild isn't going along as well as planned. I'm not wanting to unload the farm for anyone this time around but if we do give up multiple prospects for anyone I'd much prefer someone with that much control rather than a CC type rental.
  8. I thought we were all just joking around about CC. No thanks.
  9. Hader is not going to be able to give us more than 150 innings this year before having to be shut down, and he's nearly a third of the way there already . Don't see how he's going to be expected to give any contributions to the MLB club down the stretch unless it's out of the pen. If his future is as a power reliever rather than a starter then it would help both him and the Brewers. Lopez was doing fine up until yesterday. Kind of an ERA buster for him yesterday.
  10. Bullpen help is really expensive. I mean, the Cubs gave up arguably the best prospect in baseball for a 2 month rental of Aroldis Chapman. No matter how good Chapman is, that is insane. Any reliever worth acquiring will be just too much, and if they're not, they're probably no sure thing anyway. Think we will be better off looking for internal bullpen improvements. If Woodruff moves into the rotation this season, and Hader to the pen for the time being, Nelson and Wily could both audition for the pen, and if one pans out there we might already have some significant upgrades from what we have now. How about Wei-Chung Wang? I know he was a disaster here years ago but he was obviously far from ready, and now he sports a 2.87 ERA pitching for the toughest environment for pitchers in the minors. If we're going to add a lefty to this pen, he makes the most sense to me.
  11. He didn't walk anyone. He just can't please you can he? On another note, can a coach take and hit 100 balls into that corner so Santana knows how to play the bounces. Just looks lost anytime one is down there. You never seem to have a problem trashing players you don't like, but heaven forbid someone trash the ones you do like. No, as long as he keeps giving up runs at the clip he is and sitting at a 6+ ERA, he won't be pleasing many Brewer fans. You say 'he just can't please you' like he's been so awesome this year and I just can't be satisfied.
  12. Put together a big rally, get 2nd and 3rd with no one out in an 8-6 game and cut the rally short right there instead of getting closer or tying. It doesn't get more Brewer than that.
  13. Was there any doubt when Wily got 2 out and 2 strike and almost off the hook, he'd serve one up down the middle up 1-2 and screw it all up?
  14. It's also a good reminder that 40 man depth isn't really that crucial when filling out your bench. There are numerous players that aren't even on the 40 (DeJesus, Wren, Cooper, Nieuwenhuis, Dubon), that could easily be added and be added to the bench in a pinch if needed. Notwithstanding bench fodder guys who hit the waiver wire every week like Franklin.
  15. Except for Susac in AAA. Thus the impetus for trying to sell high on Pina or Bandy. Selling high like what? I can't imagine that a guy who was worth Martin Maldonado and a throw-in before the season is suddenly worth a lot more after a month. You're obviously not getting a Lucroy return like last year. Unless someone is offering up a very high ceiling pitching prospect I don't get the motivation to move either, especially with Susac not exactly lighting it up for the Sky Sox.
  16. I agree that it's all situational. The franchise needs to be open to all different avenues of putting this club in the best possible situation in both the short and long term, and I think Stearns is. So yeah, always consider the situation. It's silly IMO to say you're always going to hold onto good players. Sometimes, for various reasons the best course of action will be to trade them. Teams generally aren't interested in garbage players in trade, they do prefer good ones. It was only 10 months ago that we traded Lucroy, and now he's 2/3rds of a really good up and coming outfield in Colorado Springs plus a top 100 pitcher in Biloxi. How much of a mistake would it have been to hold onto him, and how far back would we have set the rebuild by not doing so? That said, I don't see either of Bandy and Pina getting traded. Both are highly controlled and we have a pretty good situation going on with them splitting reps at catcher. Pair that with the fact that I don't think either have enough established success yet to bring in any offers that make it worthwhile.
  17. Maybe Stearns will quit the rebuild, sell the farm for a shot at a WS this season No way he will IMO unless Mark A gets too excited about it and makes him. Which I don't think he will, I think he's learned.
  18. I'm sure it's in bad taste to complain about the strike zone up 6, but umpires this year should be required to wear a sign that says either 'I call the low strike' or 'i don't call the low strike. '
  19. Give it time. He continues to do what he's doing and he will get his due. I love the swing. Swing plays very well at MP too. He's on pace for 35 HR. Don't think he's going to hit that many, but he looks like a guy who could realistically be a 30 HR/100 RBI player.
  20. I can't speak for others, but I am not too dissapointed. LOL, nah, when I posted that I would have been good with 5-4 or 6-4, so 10-4 works.
