  1. This thread...wow. BA is one of the best around. He doesn't get multiple gigs in other sports for high profile playoff games by being a bad announcer. Enjoy him while he lasts. Worst record in baseball and we're upset about Brian Anderson?
  2. 1st base umpire absolutely not paying attention and completely blows a check swing call. Negligence, plain and simple.
  3. Like we were only going to pay for those mistakes with 1 run. ..
  4. Probably. I'm looking over Kintzler's career stats and I'm completely shocked at how good they are.
  5. I think he is a decent pitcher. Unfortunately for whatever reason he just can't seem to perform in close games. So he's a relief pitcher who can only pitch well in garbage time. That is the definition of totally useless for a reliever.
  6. The 'save your closer for a lead on the road' in extras is one of the dumbest concepts in baseball and continues to be mindlessly followed by almost every manager out there.
  7. Runner on 3rd with nobody out in the 10th and can't get him in. Glad to see nothing has changed there.
  8. What? A high 3 ERA has never been a solid 2. A mid 3 ERA is a solid #2 or #1 type pitcher. A high 3 ERA is a solid #3 or average #2 type pitcher. A mid to high 3 ERA pitcher right now is a solid #3 pitcher in a good rotation. There are not that many #2 type pitchers below a 3 ERA right now. There are a bunch of #1 type pitchers who are below a 3 ERA but I don't see many #2 type pitchers who have an ERA between a low 3 and a mid 3 ERA. You are over exaggerating what a solid #2 pitcher is. What you want or don't want to consider a 'solid 2' 8 or 9 years ago wasn't really the point of the post, it was the simple fact that starting pitching as a whole is much better than it was 8-10 years ago. Gallardo was almost always a high 3 ERA guy and almost universally considered a solid 2 by Brewer fans. From that whole paragraph you're hung up whether a solid 2 in 2006-2008 was a 3.75 ERA or 3.50 ERA? (which is also a solid #1, apparently.)
  9. I honestly feel that a lot of people are still stuck in 8 or 9 years ago in their expectations of starting pitching. If you were a 4.00 ERA starting pitcher in 2007 or 2008, you were a very solid starter. Those days are over. It's a pitchers' era again and pitchers are much better than they were in recent years. A high 3 ERA isn't a solid 2 anymore, it's a middle of the rotation guy in an average rotation. And if you're paying market value for those guys, it means you're not developing your own starting pitching and you're right in the situation that we're in now.
  10. Trade value? He's bad and expensive. Neither of which any team is looking for. He has negative trade value.
  11. Would have preferred to pull him before the damage was done, Craig.
  12. Did anyone really have any doubt when Broxton loaded the bases with 2 out that he would blow it?
  13. Why would you take Garza over Gallardo straight up? Gallardo is over 2 years younger, better, and more durable. I can't see any advantage to Garza over Gallardo.
  14. The Red Sox must be getting excited. 31 year old starters who haven't cracked 200 innings in 5 years with an ERA near 6 and a $12.5M annual salary don't grow on trees.
  15. Without knowing what our other options were, that's one of the reasons I wasn't very happy when Colorado Springs became our new AAA affiliate. It's just not a good place to evaluate either pitchers or hitters.
  16. Too bad for Segura, he's playing very well this season. I have a tough time getting excited about Sardinas. We've already had a run with the actual Cesar Izturis.
  17. I think a lot of people are confusing desperate need of a roster overhaul and that is the only way to go from here with thinking a roster overhaul is the best way to go. This team isn't desperate for an overhaul, it is just one viable path to the future. If the team is sitting at .500 near the trade deadline there are really hard decisions to be made and anyone who says otherwise is just not being honest. This isn't a black and white decision. Those who say it was a disaster to not blow up the team before last season and only winning 82 games even though it was due to most of the lineup getting hurt late proves it, are just living in denial. We currently own the worst record in baseball, despite better recent play. We have big holes coming up at 3rd and in both the rotation and pen next year, some without viable replacement options in our system. Our best player is realistically gone after next year. While I could absolutely see us not selling if we're around .500 at the break, we really need to ask ourselves how much longer the Herb Kohl approach of putting together a team every year with a ceiling around .500 and hoping for a down year for the NL that will give us a chance to sneak in as the #2 WC is a smart strategy.
  18. I don't expect us to be entirely station to station, but I would like to see the outs we make on the bases drop significantly. In most situations, an out on a base is more 'bad' than taking an extra base is 'good'. Like you said, just be smart about our aggression. Seems that we are doing a better job of that lately.
  19. 'We want to use our 27 outs on swinging the bat.' -Counsell Amen. I read this as 'I have some major philosophical differences from Ron Roenicke.
  20. We don't need MLB ready talent. Generally, MLB-ready talent=AAAA player. How often do we ever see a star prospect traded just before he is about to break into the bigs? We're better off at this point trading ready for upside, even if it means waiting a few years.
  21. I'm a big advocate of replay and I hate when it's used like that. It should be used to go back and fix an obviously bad call. If you have to sit there and stare at it for 3 minutes and still don't have anything better than "looks like he might have", it should stand.
  22. New standard for overturning a play: "Maybe, we think so, looks possible."
  23. The most aggravating part of this was listening to him refer to Rickie Weeks as "Rick".
  24. Good grief. Braun didn't start getting scrutinized because of one bad performance, and one good performance with 2 HR's at the most hitter-friendly park in baseball doesn't mean he's turned it around. Re-evaluate at mid-season, but yeah, of course you want to trade Braun if he turns it around, if you can. Why would you want to keep a 30+ year old trade piece on one of the worst teams in the league the next 5 years?
