  1. Whew, kept that one in the park. I'm impressed with Vargas today. No reason he should even have that 1 earned run, but that's how it goes.
  2. That's some poor defense that costed us a run there. They may call the Roberts bunt a hit, but Prince should have made the play, Rickie made a heckuva play to get there and made a good throw. Hart completely misjudged that last ball. Not looking very good defensively this inning.
  3. The FSN gun said 97 for Vargas' last strikeout pitch. Pretty sure that can't be right.
  4. Somewhere along the line, the Non-Brewers IGT has become the Cubs IGT, so I will point out that the Red Sox lead the White Sox 3-0 on only 1 hit, a homer by Manny Ramirez, whom if you remember, the Brewers had been in discussion about bringing in 2 offseasons ago.
  5. First of all, I don't think it was ever implied that this thread was based on 2 games. It was based on the performance of the rotation this season. I think that was made pretty clear. I also don't think you accurately read my original post if you are insinuating that I think Maddux is a dolt or is no longer any good. I think I was pretty clear that that is not what I was saying, but that I was solely looking to stimulate discussion on the troubles with the pitching staff in relation to Maddux' role. That is what these boards are for.
  6. Just a little curious as to why Maddux seems to escape blame for the significant pitching problems. When the hitters struggled last year, we wanted to tan Wynegar's hide. Look at our #2 - #5 pitchers. None of them has performed better than a #5. Truthfully, it's a miracle that we're in first place still on July 21st. We were supposed to have the dominant rotation in the Central coming into the season. That just hasn't been the case. Also, yes, I know it sounds silly, so I'm obviously not going to blame him for it, but why does it seem like every Maddux visit to the pitchers mound brings on bad things? What does he tell them? Groove one down the middle? The bullpen has been adequate this year, the rotation, anything but. Where are the adjustments? Bush seems to be turning around a bit, but he still hasn't been as expected. All I'm saying, is that in 2005 and earlier, we thought Mike Maddux was beyond reproach. Now he has the most talented rotation he's ever had. So, where are the results? Just wanted to see what thoughts were on this. I don't claim to know enough about the job of a pitching coach to know how much blame he should shoulder. I know he doesn't go out there and take the mound. And I certainly don't think that he just "forgot" how to coach in the last 2 years. But what I do know, is that the results haven't been up to expectations.
  7. I can't emphasize how important tommorow's game is. We've been swept once this season, but at least it was in San Diego. To be swept at HOME to one of the worst teams in baseball would be completely humiliating. A 6-4 homestand isn't what we were looking for, but 5-5 simply isn't going to cut it. Guess what? If we're going to play like crap on the road again this year, we're going to have to dominate at home, especially against awful teams. It's time for the team to put up. No "Sheets is out" or "Hall is on the DL excuses". There aren't any excuses anymore. This team is loaded with talent. The fans are starving. For them to fall short in 2007 is not going to be acceptable.
  8. We suck right now. Just flat out suck. There isn't any excuse for the amount of talent on this team to be performing like this. None.
  9. Yeah Ramirez, charge the mound, I'd love to seat you take a seat for 5 games.
  10. Double play should have been called after Soriano's illegal slide.
  11. This is why I just don't believe this insane streak is going to last for the Cubs. Their opponents play defense worse than a YMCA league team right now. They are coming up with absolute dumb luck flair hits and texas bloopers that find a hole and score 2. Their bullpen is tough to touch lately. Their 2-5 are still pitching like Cy Young at times. They are on cloud 9 right now, but they aren't going to play at the clip they've played in the last month for the rest of the season. Nobody is. It's absolutely insane.
  12. No. They've "only" committed 3.
  13. Do you guys remember the days, not so long ago, when it seemed like we couldn't win a game to save our life, but it didn't seem to matter because at the end of the day, we knew the Cubs would also lose anyway?
  14. What on EARTH is it about playing the Cubs lately that makes every freaking team in the league commit errors at a rapid rate, and acquire a sudden inability to hit Jason Marquis? Seriously, I realize the Cubs are hot, but EVERYONE is giving them breaks. It's not even that the Cubs are playing that amazing, but everyone is playing terrible against them.
  15. I absolutely despise Aramis Ramirez. Most Brewer killers just do it against the Brewers. He does it against any team that we need to beat them. And just like that, they're up 3-2.
  16. Well, I'm not so worried about the final week, simply because it's all at home. St. Louis and San Diego aren't slouches, but we're so dominant at home that I think we can manage 5-2 the last week. The last week being at home definitely favors us.
  17. So, now Wise is our garbage time reliever, and Balfour is our close and late guy? Okay.....
  18. Well, at 89 pitches, no way was Yost going to let Gallardo go more than 1 more inning, let alone 3 more.
  19. The headline on ESPN.Com absolutely blows me away. "Slumping Brewers try to regroup vs. D-Backs". Yeah, 4-2 since the break, soon to be 5-2. What an awful slump.
  20. This has been my biggest aggravation with the team lately. We had the Diamondbacks by the throat that inning. We had the chance to put the game away. We had the meat of the order coming up. And again, we let it slip away.
  21. This isn't based on today, but I think 2007 is about it for Jenkins in a Brewer uniform. We aren't bringing him back for 9+ million next year.
  22. Someone just told me that they heard on the radio that it was Dunn for Wise and an unnamed prospect.
  23. Couple of things -- - Hey Ned, we have this one reliever named Matt Wise. He's pretty good. I can only assume that he's unavailable right now. That's too bad, I guess I would have rather seen him in with the score tied tonight than a AAA pitcher that hasn't pitched since '04. - For the love of God, send Weeks down to Triple A. I still believe in his potential, but let him work out his problems in the minors. He's absolutely killing us right now. You can go ahead and pencil in an 0-4 day whenever he's starting. - Can we ever rally when trailing with 2 innings left? I started a thread about this a couple weeks ago. When we are trailing with 2 innings left to go, we go out with a whimper. Every time. Doesn't matter whether we're trailing by 1 run or 10.

  25. Not sure what this is all about. Of course Mench, he's started against lefty pitching all year, and done pretty well hitting lefties. This has been the norm the entire season, it's not a surprise.
