  1. Like others, I went online (jsonline) during lunch only to be spoiled by results (of gymnastics). I can see why Chelsie Memmel was trying so hard to get back on the team. I wasn't aware the teams were downsized to five and all scores count. I wonder how good they would be if Shawn Johnson didn't hurt her shoulder skiing two years ago, or what role she would have had.
  2. Scanning through fangraphs, I dug this up: There have 49 games where at one point the Brewers had a 90% win possibility. Their record is 44-5. (Losses 6/14 @KC, 6/17 @MIN, 6/19 v.TOR, 7/4 v.FLA, 7/16 v.STL) There have 52 games where at one point the Brewers had s 90% possibility of loss. That record is 2-50. (Wins 5/11 v.CHC, 7/3 v.FLA) The first punch-in-the-gut loss didn't occur until June 14, and IMO it was already obvious by that time this year's team was struggling to be a playoff contender. Maybe more focus should be on why can't the offense muster more comebacks?
  3. I saw Sutton once prior to a game walking the concourse wearing dress shirt, slacks and sandals.
  4. I'll be there at 7 am. Was slotted for Corral D, asked for an upgrade to a preferred seeding and to my surprise they obliged. Looking forward to seeing the view from above.
  5. We took the tour bus. Very convenient. You see the sights while the bus parks and waits for you to come back. I think it's bostontours.com
  6. I signed up when I was laid off in 2009 and was of no use then. Now that things have picked up the last 18 months, I've had people contact me.
  7. Have you tried running on the Bug Line Trail? The crushed limestone may be more forgiving. NEVER run through pain, your body is talking to you. I've never had shin splints, so I cannot offer any advice. I'm a heel striker as well. Hate to be the messanger, but some people don't have the biodynamics to handle the stress of distance running.
  8. Yeah, but neither did Zuckerberg.
  9. Deep in my photographic memory I seem to recall The Capitol Times running an AP photo of Rollie in a Boston uni. Any internet wizards willing to attempt a search?
  10. My initial thought that it would be the same wekend as Al's Run, but that's not the case this year. Sounds like a potential conflict in the future, however. @William - I've been a road racer for thirty years, and a pet peeve of mine is all these online training programs encouraging people to participate in long distance events with a short timeframe training plan. Try some 5K or 8K races in different weather conditions to prep you for a longer race.
  11. A hybrid goes both ways.
  12. I've dealt with them. They often contact me with opprotunities. But it seems I have to chase after them to follow up. But there was one good guy who was proactive and lined something up for me, but it fell through. I called the recruiter back several times and he has not returned my calls. I'm assuming recruiters are swamped at this point, but its frustrating. Headhunters are a dime a dozen. Some better than others. Don't put all your eggs into one basket. Move on.

  14. I've seen a lot of basketball and many award ceremonies in my years. The look on the Racine Lutheran coach's face was as if he wanted to take that runners-up trophy and chuck it 50 feet through the air. I saw them play four games in nine days and didn't think they could get beat. Up six with a minute left I went to my computer only to come back and catch the final fourteen seconds. People will be talking about that finish for a while. The team I've been following, Neillsville girls, advances in D4. A possible conference rematch with Regis. Owen-Withee qualifies in D5. Two teams to state from sparsely populated Clark County.
  15. I checked out the Racine Lutheran (D5-#1) game Thursday evening. Tallest player is 6'3", but they move the ball around and shoot well. Five treys in the first period to break things open quickly. Should be a good matchup with Randolph Saturday afternoon. Post-play vs. perimeter play. The edge to Lutheran. And to follow up on Paul's above comment - no tickets sold at the door for the Germantown-Hamilton game @ Waukesha North. Insufficient capacity, I suppose?
  16. Rob Wilson. Wow. The game had a certain NCAA feel to it.
  17. I agree with Paul's concerns regarding playing D1 sectional games in high school gyms. Even a large gym can't hold all the students, parents and junkies. I went to the final at UWSP last year and that was sufficient. Didn't Memorial play Riverside at Whitewater last year? This goes way back, but I remember when the Madison Sectional was played at the Fieldhouse. Double-header on Friday, third-place and title game on Saturday. So many people there, remember sitting in the second deck.
  18. I'm following two teams. Randolph boys - weren't sure if they would get past Fall River, but no longer an issue (see above). #1 Racine Lutheran looks tough. Neillsville girls - followed the team during my time up there. Currently ranked #2. Tonight they play #1 Regis in the Cloverbelt Conference Crossover title game. They could very well meet again in the state title game. They've lost one game in two years.
  19. An evening at the Trysting Place Pub. No cover. Two years now. Fun, yet not crazy. Some people there our age. Did some modest dancing until the DJ decided to go with rap.
  20. My only solace is that it wasn't the Cubs taking the Series.
  21. I've only had a chance to catch glimpses of the Series. But I find it eeriely similar to the '86 Mets-Red Sox Series. The Red Sox were one strike away in Game 6. There's a book with that title. I refuse to watch the final innings.
  22. I'm not as disappointed with the loss to the Cards as most on this board. Once they got in as WC, I had the gut feeling they were taking the pennant. They remind me of last year's Packers. Plus, I didn't see the Brewers getting by the the Phillies, so my expectations weren't as high. But it does bug me that they lost to a division rival that they spent six months trying to put away. But mostly though, watching Hart, Hardy, Krenzel, Weeks, Fielder and all coming up through the minors and I was fully expecting a WS appearance by 2007. It's 2011 and just the one trip to the LCS and Prince is gone.
  23. So it would be faux pas for me to post the Wild Card Magical Number?
  24. Good topic. This popped into my head earlier this week. I think the '82 team was at most 4 or 5 games up. Same with the '87 and their hot start. A late 90's team ('99?) had a nice start. I remember the 2007 being in first in August, but forgotten how far ahead they were earlier until Fox brought it up Saturday.
  25. I plead guilty. I found the '96 season exciting, but I remeber watching some games '97 and getting bored with the ease of which they were winning. Same thing with the Wave about ten years ago - they went amost two years between home losses. Success breeds complacency. I won't take either for ganted again.
