  1. I've noted this in other threads, but I was at that game that Saturday night sitting right behind home plate (yellow Summerfest t-shirt) with the Indians guy who charted pitches. That game was unbelievable. The pitch-charting guy (everyone called him "Dude") kept shaking his head about how Odell's slider was breaking at least 18" all night long. Cleveland 3B coach Johnny Goryl was a member of my folks' church and I stayed the weekend with him. Crew won Saturday and Sunday. I don't remember Friday's outcome because I didn't get to the game 'til the 6th inning. Johnny got me fully autographed team balls from both the Indians and Treb's Brewers that I still have and cherish. Memories of a weekend like that never go away! I'd been at the game the previous Monday against Toronto when Higuera was pulled with a sore something after the 1st inning. Odell came in and pitched 5 great innings, and when Teddy's arm didn't rebound well enough, Odell was told he'd start that Saturday against the Tribe. The Crew won. I think Fielder started at 1B, then McGriff came in for him later and hit a huge HR not far from where we were sitting in right-center. Yep, remember that game. I have the eight and ninth innings on videotape, still. Good times.
  2. Yesterday's Boston Marathon wasn't televised. That bugged me. The quality of the webcast left much to be desired. So much for the latest technology. That bugged me. A couple of the more entertaining races in recent years I barely could make out is bugging me.
  3. So, was it a Miller truck or a Bud truck?
  4. Nice to see the Twins reliving their crappy years of the 70's by going retro.
  5. Well, valpo stole my thunder. I have dial-up, so couple that with everything valpo listed and it would require several minutes to check my balance online as opposed to flipping my register open. No way that scenerio compares to one where if I were to write a check in line at the store.
  6. It may not be that people have poor time management. It may be that they spend 40 to 60 hours a week at work and in traffic and running errands and they don't like shopping and they rather get home and relax, enjoy time with the family, etc. than wait in line any longer than is necessary. I'm not just in a hurry for myself, but also to show courtesy for others who may be waiting for me. I'm not bothered if I have to wait an extra 30 seconds or whatever. By the time I get back to the car I have already forgotten about it. All kinds of time to relax at home. If someone is so bothered that I decide not to use a check card, that guy needs to get over himself. Yeah, why keep track of your purchases by hand if your bank already does it for you? It just seems like a huge waste of time to me, unless there is some other reason for it I'm missing. I keep track at home so I can enter it in my spreadsheet, track my cash flow and plan for future savings/expenditures. Couldn't you just take the receipt and record it when you get home? If I stick it in my pocket, I may misplace it when I get home or forget altogether. If you are on this website you are more than capable of checking your balance online. Yeah, I'm capable, but a big pain to look it up when I can grab my register and flip it open in a sec.
  7. You're welcome! I use to pay my groceries via check. With the carbon copies, I would have my records bundled together nicely. I'd have it filled out beforehand, so completing it just took a moment. If the person behind me in line has such poor time management skills that my actions bugged him, well that's not my problem. Now that I'm married, we decide to put everything on the credit card and make one payment a month. I've used my check card once in the last five years. If I used it more often, I would need to carry my register with me anyhow so that wouldn't change.
  8. Please keep in mind not all of us who have check cards care to use them, and if some youngster gets all worked up because he has to wait an extra fifteen seconds...well sucks to be him.
  9. CC pitching a complete game and hitting the winning homer. Oh yeah, done that. Hawing stole my thunder.
  10. Not sure if this will be an issue, but I-64 is the main artery that cuts through downtown and it is COMPLETELY closed for the next year. I've been to the Ameristar Casino and it's nice, easy to get in/out, but again not sure how easy it would be to get there from downtown.
  11. After a long search, I finally switched jobs back in November which came with it a significant raise to put me back in my peer group. Not so sure if I would willingly give it up so quick.
  12. I'm back to defend my title.
  13. (emphasis mine) Oh, Jimbo, I know when you went to school here. Was the prof actually talking about a football bowl game with a straight face? Or was he remembering the relative glory of whatever the most recent z-list bowl the Badgers had played in a few years before? (Garden State or whatever; I know you'll correct me) Yes, a straight face. Wisconsin went to bowl games two of the previous four seasons (when there weren't as many and going bowling was a bigger deal). Anyhow, he was serious. As it turns out, the Badgers had some possible bowl invitations that fall and Chancellor Shain stated "No bowl games during ethe xam week." It was a mini-controversy with the media and public, but in the end didn't matter because they got a post-exam bowl.
  14. rluzinski - about the only stat dude on the Internet who can put me in my place. hawing - the poster of all things cerebral and Badger.
  15. Just to clarify the comments regarding the lack of consistency in grading curves - that has been going on for decades. Attending the UW in the eighties, my observation was the liberal arts classes had a median grade of 'B' and the engineering classes had a 'BC' median grade. It took a 3.25 to make the College Of Engineering dean's list, and I believe a 3.5 or somewhat to make the list in L+S. My old school moment was the first day of my first class freshman year. The prof announced "If you go skiiing in Colorado and miss the final, you will FAIL. If you miss the final because you will be playing football in a bowl game, you will FAIL."
  16. I'm surprised Baggot has stuck with the State Journal after getting passed over for the editor position in favor of less senoired Sprout.
  17. The player is about four years old, but used infrequently. I could always test the disc on the in-laws player. I'll check the disc for scratches.
  18. It will play, then occassionally "freeze"/stop, or stutter and/or slow down.
  19. A couple of weeks ago a DVD someone burned for me would "stick", or freeze/play slow in my DVD player. Wasn't sure if it was the disc or player causing the problem. Last weekend rented a DVD and it played fine. Tried to play it a second time and it was also sticking. Never heard of this problem before. Would my player require cleaning? Thanks.
  20. The more I drive through central Illinois, I realize a decent restaurant doesn't exist in that region.
  21. Just got back from a week in St. Louis. Wednesday night I had dinner at Puljois' restaurant. Talk about eating with the enemy. P.S. I do not miss snow.
  22. GPS Last week was the second opprotunity I had to ride in a car with one of those gizmos, and each time I wished I had a sledgehammer. It's a nifty tool to have, but people need to realize it has its limitations. A half-way intelligent person who can interpret a map would make it a wash. -We wanted to visit "The Pier" in St. Petersburg and my brother drives us to the end of the road in St. Pete's Beach, fifteen miles away. -We needed to get to the Tampa airport and he had us halfway to the St. Petersburg airport before I spoke up and told him how stupid he is. ----- Continued here: viewtopic.php?f=67&t=30512
  23. Forget this. My plane leaves for Tampa 7 am Tuesday. Every man for himself.
  24. I was at the 7:30 show Sunday. My wife won freebies so were in the fifth row, but off the floor. Got kind of annoying having to sit twisted in order to see the stage (like watching baseball at the Metrodome). This will put me in the minority, but I was somewhat underwhelmed. True, they are quite talented, but doubtful if I'll go back next year. Was the Kohl Center sold out Thursday?
  25. FBS (formerly Division 1-A) = 85 scholarshipsFCS (formerly Division 1-AA) = 63 scholarships Division II = 36 scholarships Division III = 0 scholarships You're right that Wisconsin has few D2 schools (only Parkside which is non-football). The Minnesota schools are D2, so many Wisconsin kids go there for football and basketball.
