Posted on page 43 of this thread: The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel published the Al's Runs results in this morning's paper. Only they list the Top 100 overall and not the Top 50 or 100 by gender. So the top 92 men and only top 8 women were listed. I guess if you're a female athlete in Milwaukee you're not worth as much. One year later and the same garbage, only this time accompanied with a terrible photo and a poorly written article. A real nice cat-and-mouse race was shaping up in the women's division which I was able to witness from 50 meters back. You'd never know from reading the summary. Our sport deserves better than this.

Uh, no...there was last year for one. The Brewers were tied for first on 9/18/07 and went 2-6 over the next 8 games to hand the division to the Cubs. Not to nitpick you two guys, but remember in 1988 they were still in it at Game #160 and 1992 went to the final week.

What's up with the Brit taunting the Jamaicans at the end of the 4x4? Has he been holed up in a cave the last seven days? C'mon lad, it's just a semi-final! Who's with me and wants to see Bolt anchor the final Saturday, just to see him kick Rooney's bottom? Thursday during the 4x1 warm ups right away I commented to my wife "Looks like the USA bibs were written in with a Sharpie. Bet one of the coaches screwed up." Kudos to NBC for following it up. Please refer to Coach Lombardi's quote at the top of this page. We need more of Dwight Stones. Saturday is Super Bowl Sunday (in China) for some of us. Who's up for a marathon? Pizza and pop and I'm all set. Brian Sell is my man. Former UW great Matt Tegenkamp competing in the 5000 finals Saturday, broadcast (hopefully) Saturday night. Go Badgers!

You do know that most MLB players played minor league ball at some point, right? In fact I think about 25 players who are either currently on active MLB rosters or were at some point this year played ball in the Northwoods league at some point in their careers. While, yes, watching the higher quality of baseball that is played in the majors is worth the price of admission, I pretty much enjoy watching baseball at any level. I'll happily spend $5 - $10 to watch guys play their hearts out for the dream of one day reaching the show. I'm aware of what comprises the Northwoods League, also cognitive that many players reach the majors. Irrelevant. It's a bunch of guys from out of state I've never heard of, whom only play a year or two, playing college level baseball. How am I suppose to develop any attachment? If I wish to see amateur baseball, for a buck I can see a Home Talent game.

If Vince Lombardi was coach of the USA track team, he'd be going "What the **** is going on out there? Grab, grab, grab, nobody knows how to grasp anymore." Strong words from the NBC crew. Walter Dix must be the luckiest man in China now. Fifth man to cross the line and leaves the stadium with another medallion, a bronze to go along with his highly unexpected one in the 100m. What's up with non-winners taking victory laps? When did that start? Surprised NBC didn't hype the Merritt-Warner race more than it did. It's a headline rivalry in the publications us junkies read. Beach volleyball doesn't have enough rallies. I prefer the indoor game. The Russian women gymnastics team had plenty of face time in Athens. This year, non-existent.

I live in Waukesha and I wasn't a real big supporter of this. Not sure what kind of upgrades are going down, just don't want it to look out of place in the park. Plus, if I want to attend a ballgame, it'll be an MLB game.

Some random thoughts: Matt Wise self-mutilation award to Magda Lewy, who had to drop out of the marathon mid-race due to her knee stiffening after bumping it during her plane flight over. Ned Yost clueless award to Catherine Nderbea, despite in the lead pack, unaware that Tomescu had surged to a 45-second lead enroute to the gold medal. Bershawn Jackson medaling in the 400H. Never before seen a hurdler freelance during a race. "Take 13 steps this hurdle, ah maybe 17 or so the next one." Anyone catch Spanaird Marta Dominguez wiping out in the steeplechase? Trail leg clipped a steeple and her head bounces off the track like a basketball. Next seen staggering around the infield like she had ten beers in her. Fun event to watch, just never ask me to run it! Glad NBC gave ample time to the women's PV it deserved. Yelena is the queen of the world TnF scene. C'mon Bela, tell us how you *truely* feel!

Watching Deena drop out was like a punch in the gut. Bummer. But a poor job by NBC for failing to follow up om her and the other two Americans in the race. Still don't know what happened with her. I'll have to check the IGT when I have a chance. So much for the m100 showdown. Mike Felder put it best: when Bolt decides to finally race, he'll set the standard for the next generation...or two. Kudos to Walter Dix picking up the bronze. Wonder if he thought he had any chance 48 hours ago. Side note: in the 2007 NCAA Indoors, Dix stumbled at the 60m start, costing FSU ten points and allowing Wisconsin to take the NCAA title.

Man, tough day for the men shot putters. Going in thinking a 1-2-3 sweep. Results: Cantwell silver, Hoffa 7th, Nelson fouls out. Tonight, live women's marathon. Can Deena repeat? Can Paula redeem? Get the snacks ready for this one. Oh yeah, a certain sprint race as well. Whoever ends up third may be the fastest third place finish ever.

Numerous D1 athletes. Disgraced politician Chuck Chvala. OK an administrator and not an alum, The AD way back was Otto Breitenbach. Went on to head the WCHA and Badger State Games. -
I wasn't necessarily rooting for them to lose, but I wanted to see BEL take set one, just to see USA sweat a bit. All they had to do was sideout. A nice comeback for the Americans, though. Yes, they express confidence in themselves. But I guess it isn't bragging if you can do it.
