  1. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/minorleagues/rule_5.jsp?mc=faq This one, which is actually an faq, is a little more vague. Does this mean he then has to go through waivers or are they saying he can be placed in the minors now? Way to not be clear. Being "placed on waivers" (what the first link is talking about) is the announcement that a player will be sent to the minors. Being "waived" (the second link) is the act of sending the player to the minors after the announcement is made and nobody claims him. We tend to think of them as synonymous, but they are two distinct actions.
  2. I wouldn't have minded if there was only a runner on third. Then it becomes a match-up problem. You should only do it with two runners on if you don't care about the 2nd run. Up by one is not one of those instances.
  3. I really liked Hamilton. His voice sounds smooth on the radio and he gives great insights into the thinking of a baseball player. There were two instances that really stood out. He said there was no way the pitcher would throw Lucroy a fastball with two outs and a runner on 2nd. He said Lucroy should realize this and sit off-speed. The next pitch Lucroy hit the slider for an RBI single. Two nights later Uggla was pitch hitting and got to a full count. Hamilton said everyone in the place knew he was sitting dead red so the Brewer pitcher should throw anything off-speed. Uggla was able to get a hit from the fastball that came later.
  4. 3) Trade Wang for prospects that don't have 25 man restrictions. We picked Wang because we have a weak bullpen. Why not turn him into 1-3 other prospects that free up a roster spot. The tough part will be finding a partner.
  5. I don't think they are going to upgrade 1st base at all. We went all in for 2011 and left Yuni at SS for the entire year and McGehee at 3B for most of the year.
  6. I'm sad to miss another game this week, but happy to not be playing in this cold.
  7. Herrera brings two things. He isn't hurt and he is willing to play the outfield (unlike some other middle infielders I know). We did send him to the minors and only brought him up because Gomez is injured. Herrera replaced what would have been Gindl's spot in the lineup, so I'm not that upset. I am upset that he hit first and was in CF while Logan was in the corner. I didn't. Our choices are K-Rod, Duke, Kintzler, Thornburg, Wooten, and Wang. We could not get into a save situation. We don't want to bring in K-Rod with runners on base. At home you should use your closer in the 9th. You use your closer and hopefully you score and never see their best reliever. The loss can be chalked up to K-Rod having his first bad day of the year and having your top three offensive weapons hurt.
  8. The Wild Thing got a little too wild.
  9. Do you have a link talking about this? I remember stories about him playing the infield with Prince in a little league touring team. I think he's played 2B his entire life. He is also no longer terrible at 2B. That may be part of why he doesn't want to move. He's worked really hard for many years to become adequate defensively. Maybe he doesn't want to put in more hard work to move.
  10. The contact play with two runners on (especially 1st and 3rd) makes sense. I was thinking of the contact play with only one runner on. Going from runner on 3rd to runner on 1st is usually a bad swap. I was also wondering if there was a mathematical reason for the number 15 being used.
  11. [sarcasm]We're obviously struggling. We only took two of three from the Yankees. We were able to sweep the Red Sox a month ago.[/sarcasm] Edit: Just in case, I came back to edit this to blue font.
  12. Could you walk through this logic? I'm not trying to argue or call you out, I just need help understanding how one score is equal to fifteen outs on the basepaths. What am I not adding to the calculation?
  13. I'm booked for pretty much the entire weekend. At least all of the hours the sun is out.
  14. Yes, he left for the money. But Cleveland does not trade him if he was willing to take a small deal. JaDerHeyski and I will be giving him a standing ovation when he hits. And then hope to give him another ovation when he gets pulled in the third down by 8 runs.
  15. I will not be able to make it. Not that practice helps. On Monday I had three week ground outs and a can of corn to right field.
  16. I wonder if Wang is doing a lot of side sessions to help his development while in the bigs. Maybe he wasn't available when we had a big lead but was available yesterday? Tough game to sit and watch in person. I was questioning taking out Thorny before Kinzly threw a pitch.
  17. He should try for all 30 in one year.
  18. I was wrong. This tasting will last until 5pm. I won't be able to make it to practice. "This [best Man] deal is getting worse all the time!"
  19. Future sister-in-law just texted to remind us we agreed to help them cake test in Racine at noon this Sunday. Hopefully it doesn't take too long and I can still make it to practice.
  20. I saw Cashner's first pitch and thought Braun can run against this guy. The Cashner shortened his stride, threw a fastball instead of an offspeed, and the catcher made a perfect throw. I think that was 100% Braun's idea to run. Those are the lumps you take when you try, but I thought he had a good chance to make it. How many of our caught stealing is Segura being picked off of first?
  21. I agree that they don't seem to be feeding off each other, but that just takes time. I think he's made a fine transition to baseball. Lepay seems better than BA's first few games. I think he may be another good one. I wish the Brewers were as good at finding HS pitchers as they are finding play by play men.
  22. PED's don't build muscles. They help you recover from fatigue. Guys like McGuire/Sosa/Bonds used the extra energy to spend more time in the gym. The extra time in the gym built muscles. There were many players (like Bruan) who used PEDs without doing extra reps.
