  1. I agree that contact hitting the other way and bunting would help take away the shifts. The problem is that we can't expect a player to do that with regularity now that pitchers are all throwing harder. The best "quick fix" I've heard is to move the mound back 2 feet. That would increase the reaction time needed to hit the ball the other way to something closer to what it was in the 80s. We'll probably see a quick spike in HR and SB right away but it would allow some players to start focusing on being "contact" guys. It would also move pitchers back for defense to give them more time to protect from the come back hit.
  2. To be fair there haven't been any 3+ year bad contract signings. He sometimes gambles on players but never gives them long term contracts we regret. Something Melvin had to do with pitchers because he couldn't grow enough young talent on that side of the ball.
  3. Already the 4th no hitter this year in MLB. So much for more balls in play. Am I the only one who doesn’t get excited about no hitters anymore? They have become way too common for me to consider them special, and much more often than not they are thrown by pitchers who are not in the elite category. Yes
  4. With 10 strikeouts in those 19 ABs we won't be able to tell him apart from the rest of the team.
  5. Alex Ochoa was the one that instantly jumped into my head. In 2000 the Brewers traded Alex Ochoa to the Reds for Mark Sweeney and a PTBNL. Two years and seven days later the Brewers were part of a three team deal. They sent Mark Sweeney (along with Burnitz, Collier, and D'Amico) to the Mets to get Lenny Harris and Glendon Rusch. Colorado sent us Ochoa as part of the deal. So the Brewers traded him away and later traded what we got to get him back. The Brewers remembered why we traded him in the first place. At the trade deadline we traded Ochoa for a PTBNL (Jorge Fabregas).
  6. Godley was no longer in the act of fielding. It is entirely an umpire's judgement if he is interfering with the runner. Since that was the active runner they were attempting to put out the ball is instantly dead and he is awarded the base. It doesn't matter that the runner would have been out without the interference. The league will back the umpire because this was all within the rules. The judgement of the empire may be questioned by us but it wouldn't look good if the league publicly said that.
  7. Still 1 game too much.
  8. I left Cable when I moved in 2013. I called the day of the move and said I can handle unplugging and re-plugging equipment. They told me it would still be a $100 move fee. After complaining for half an hour to several people on the phone I said I would just cancel. They told me I should just pay the $100 fee since that is cheaper than an installation fee. When I returned their box the manager at the store tried to argue that I should just take the cheaper option and pay the $100 fee. Three months later I get a phone call from them saying they value me as a customer and were willing to waive the installation fee if I came back to them. Since that day I've used several different services between Satellite and Streaming and never had to pay an installation fee. Last week I've moved back to cable with no installation fee. Hulu removed Fox Sports North and then notified me they were increasing the monthly price by $10. FSN is one of the three channels I watch (Fox and USA). I can live without any of the other channels. It also bothered me that I was paying for Hulu Live TV and the extra for "limited commercials" and DVR but was forced to watch 3 minute commercial breaks when trying to fast forward through sports. I'm already looking to move away from Cable because my box only reliably gets USA when I move it out of the entertainment center and onto the floor. It also categorizes WWE as one time sporting events so I can't set it to always record the weekly shows.
  9. I see it as rewarding 3TO baseball. The 3TO mentality is to swing hard and in the same style on every pitch. That leads to very predictable locations where you hit the ball. That is why there is so much defensive positioning. If a batter changes their swing based on count/situation then defenses wouldn't do such a dramatic shift. And with the increased ease of stealing a base the value of the BB just went up.
  10. I have no kids and love my Switch. I play it more than the Xbox or PS4. I can play it on the big screen or pop it out into handheld mode when the wife or I want to watch something else on the TV as well. It helps that I was always a Mario and Animal Crossing fan. I played it so much my wife asked for one last March so she could have her own Animal Crossing town.
  11. This. I have a chronic condition with treatments that affects my immune system. I live in rural community and work from home so the only information I've been able to find is "wait for general public availability". It's frustrating that I avoid visiting family and friends because that is safe but watch people congregate in large numbers in the cities and hear about coworkers taking out of state trips.
  12. If only that really meant much. The important thing is potential viewers and not historic viewers. In 2019 the Brewers ended up with the best record in the league while the Marlins lost over 100 games. If the Brewers lose over 100 games and the Marlins end up with the best record in the league the viewership gap between the two would be a lot larger.
  13. It is legal to stream MLB.tv from IP addresses outside local blackout zones.
  14. So the clear answer is to remove the DH rule. Both sides are using the situation to leverage for more money.
  15. One problem with that line of thought is that all of the teams we face are running against the same quality of defense. Maybe the problem is more that the Brewers made less outstanding defensive plays to throw a guy out. Or maybe the Brewers have such a respected defense other teams don't test them. I'm not saying the conclusion about the Brewers aggressiveness is wrong, only that the data used is incomplete. If Stearns/Counsell had a problem with the number of runners sent it would be addressed right away instead of waiting for an offseason coaching change.
  16. I doubt the Yelich deal was a spur of the moment decision. Stearns was probably negotiating that contract all off season. That means there was a large question about whether he was on the team in the 20s and what payroll obligations the Brewers had. So it would make sense that he would target short contracts especially one year deals. There aren't a lot of great/excellent players who want to do that. Stearns probably knew that 2020 would be a bit of a patchwork until Yelich was either signed or traded. If things were normal I'd expect the 2021 offseason to be another solid win. With the state of affairs it will probably be another subpar offseason with all of the payroll the Brewers need to lose.
  17. This. If he wants to retire why would he go through sprint training and get into baseball shape to play a handful of games and retire? He's either going to commit to try to play the entire year or not show up to training.
  18. He'll be back at least one more time in a non-player role. He will get a plaque on AmFam and/or a star in the cement. I do feel bad he didn't get the final ovation from the crowd but that feels appropriate for this franchise. So much potential but never following through.
  19. I can't wait to see the banner the Brewers hang for going 29-31 in a season. I'm hoping it's the Brewers facing the Marlins in the NLCS. That would be fun and cause the most uproar among the twitterverse.
  20. Yes. DH to the NL. Make sure the Brewers and other small market teams have a harder time being competitive.
  21. I would love to see an mlb game with no fans. Keep the camera focused on the players and their interactions instead of all the shots of fans between pitches. Audio is where the game would suffer. I don't think a 420 ft moonshot in the 8th will have the same weight without the roar of the crowd (or the sudden groan/silence). Hearing the players audio would make it very interesting. How much yelling comes from the dugouts, chatter between the plate and mound, etc. The WWE is going on without fans right now. Some bits are still entertaining despite the lack of a crowd. Other bits are painful and embarrassing. Golf, Nascar, and the NFL would be the sports with little difference of no fans.
  22. Freedom of Speech is a right someone has against the government preventing speech. The Astros are within their rights to tell a fan to either give up their sign or leave the Astros's property. The Astros personnel figured the fan didn't want to leave the stadium so just demanded they give up the sign. Not a good PR move but there would be no serious legal repercussions from this.
  23. I don't get why baseball doesn't copy football and have a nine man patting lineup and a nine man defensive lineup. There's no reason that eight players have to be on both. Let each team decide it's best hitters and best defenders.
  24. Improved security of having large mobs of people grouped together outside the stadium? This just improves the security from MLB losing a lawsuit. Real security would be to have sobriety tests to enter and not selling alcohol.
