  1. Watching the Redwings win the NHL Game of the Week on NBC today was great. Seeing a Flomax commercial that features Bob Uecker is not great. I don't want to here Bob talk about "Male Urinary Symptoms". I don't want to here anyone talk about it, but listening to Bob makes it even worse.
  2. I love that I heard this from the MLB network. I turned the channel on aroudn 1:40 to watch Randy Johnson's strikout game, and instead they have a special breaking news segment talking about all of this.
  3. I'm very happy for my 360, but digging out MLB 2K7 yesterday and then seeing this post has made me sad.
  4. I go to IRS.gov and free file. It links to numerous sites that will allow you to do it for free. I usually use H&R Block. Though this year they wanted to charge $15 to import my information from last year. In previous years they imported for free and it made it even easier since it knew about what W-2s, stocks, bank interests, etc I had. Wisconsin.gov allows you to file your state taxes for free. But this year's is worse than last years. In previous years all you had to do was enter the boxes from your federal form. Now all they have is an interactive screen of the paper version. You have to know where and what numbers to put in the boxes. Which was a problem for me this year since I sold some stocks I've had for 20 years last summer. So I paid the money to H&R Block to also do my state taxes.
  5. I've read and posted from my not so smart phone (Motorola Razor). I would love a mobile version.
  6. Here's what I see Wright providing. Someone in the rotation goes down with an injury. We have several guys in the bullpen that can also spot start (Charlie Newhouse, Big Red, etc). Wright can be called up to cover the hole now created in the bullpen. But color me happy if the team doesn't need him and he stays in AAA all year.
  7. IIRC, this is the rule of the Olympics Baseball (RIP). This is rule that many different baseball organizations have. Since this is the WBC, and not a MLB game, why do we assume they must use every and only MLB rules? Unless they are trying to change the rules of MLB, this does not take away from the game. This is a rule you know about going into the game and agreed to by the countries that play. It also adds a little more strategy. Alex Sanchez is in the on deck circle with two outs and nobody on. If you get the batter out he'll start next inning on 2nd. What do you do?
  8. Sorry, I meant horrible in the eyes of the "average fan" (ie batting average and HRs). And I was including the fact that he missed time and had very shaddy defense.
  9. Being pre-arby, he has to either except what the Brewers offer or not play. We decided he deserved a pay cut for his 07 performance. IIRC, you have to offer at least 80% of last year's salary. Look at it this way. Rickie is horrible in 07 and has his salary cut to $1.07M. Prince was drafted a year before him, hit 50 HRs and led the team offensively, and got a pay raise to $670k. You see why one might be a little upset about the salary structure.
  10. How many other Brewers do the Rays plan on picking up?
  11. But you had to invest money to buy the seeds. You also had to invest money or time into growing those seeds. This is very similar to the printing of tickets. The more tickets you sell, the more ticket brokers you need to have working and the more concessions you need to have running and the more parking attendants you need to hire. On Thursday afternoons not every concession stand is open (ie the one near the new kids area on the field level.), but they are open for every Cub, Twins, or weekend game. When the Angels and Indians played at The Keg, there was a large problem from understaffing which shows that increased attendance does require increased expenses.
  12. I'm checking on how many Java programmers are out here on BF.net. After learning VB.net, C++, and Java, I believe Java is what language I want to code in every day. A recruiter said the best way to find a job is to network, and this is the biggest collection of friends I've got.
  13. Revenue sharing is like one division of a company making enough money for another division that's losing money. If baseball teams were truely capitalistic, the Royals would be allowed to build a new mega stadium across the street from the Yankees and compete for some of the NY money.
  14. I don't think it matter whether Ben wants to play in Milwaukee. CC wanted to be on the west coast and play in the NL, and look where he ended up. Ben will end up with the team that gives him the best contract. He never publicly burned the bridge to Milwaukee so he won't lose face if we give him the best offer and he accepts. on topic: I would hate to trade someone with Hall's potential after two down years.
  15. They got money when people bought stocks, and got more when people sold the stocks. Outside of the money they invested themselves, the company makes money no matter which direction the stock market takes. I'm not happy about a new owner jacking up payroll and buying a championship.
  16. I'm amazed at the split difference when the team wins vs the team losing. I'll have to look at other Brewers to see if they have such a gap. I thought of Prince as one of the guys who would turn this franchise around. I thought there was a 50% chance he would spend the majority of his career in Milwaukee, like Jenkins did. The minute I found out he had signed Boras I started to emotionally detach from him as a player. I realized there was no way he would be in Milwaukee by the time the 2012 season came around, so I cheered him as much as a guy like Carlos Lee. The contract Braun signed along with both of their remarks at the beginning of the year caused me to look at Braun as the face and leader of the team. I still cheer Prince and wish a HR every time he's up, but now the jersey of "The" guy has lost the 2.
  17. Who's batting behind Prince that will be double switched out of the game? If you're double switching Hart or Cam out of the game to bring in someone like Gwynn, you might as well bring back Yost. And if you send Gwynn in to PH and the other team brings in a LHP to face him, you thank the other manager for not saving that pitcher for Prince. The only other "regular" that is lefty is the 3B platoon. And if Hall isn't available to come in (because he's already been taken out of the game) you don't have a defensive 3B to put on the field, so you wouldn't PH for Lamb anyway.
  18. He will still have the carrot to perform over the next two years so that he gets the gigantic contract when his arby time is over.
  19. I am proud to have never sent a text in my life, and I don't ever planning. They have a cell phone. The phone comes with free voicemail. If either party isn't in a position to be talking on their phone (ie my coworkers on the clock) then it is something that can wait for later. But I'm just a 29 year old Old Fart. My grandparents embrace technology right away. My grandfather bought an NES is 86. He loved it so much, he bought us grandkids an NES for Christmas. And upset my mom since video games "rot the brain". My grandmother was on the internet in 96. I recently found out that she uses the internet to meet guys, starting back in 96 when she got the computer. And she was aware back then that people lie on the internet. To protect herself she would lie about her appearance and clothes when she agreed to meet guys at local bars. That way she could pre-screen the guys when she saw them. Last year I was showing a co-worker how to clock in at the computer so he could stop asking other people to do it for him. He was already retired and was only working part time so he had bar money on the weekends. I instructed him to double click the image. He asked how to do that. I told him to move the pointer over the image. He stared at the keyboard for 30 seconds and then asked me how one moves the pointer on the screen. I told him he should stick to asking others to clock him in. (The clock in process also involves entereing usernames and passwords and several menus.)
  20. Did Ivan come up with the nickname, or did teammates and/or announcers? Unless he came out and started the "Pudge" name, I can't hold it against him. Kent, Griffey, Rodriguez, and Thomas are all sure HOFs. They might not all make first ballot, but you can't leave them out. And they all retired with Maddox and Mussina. Some might skip over them just because of the other names on the ballot but will come back to them in later years.
  21. If baseball was truly a free market, Mark A could build a new ballpark across the street from the Yankee's stadium and market themselves in NY.
  22. According to the contract that was written up when Anaheim paid for the new stadium, the team has to keep the city's name. That is why they haven't changed to simply LA Angels. That deal was signed before Moreno bought the team. I think Moreno wants to market them as an LA team to tap into the Hispanic population, but was legally bound to keep Anaheim.
  23. Squeeking over .500 in the West might make the playoffs. Or he could come to Milwaukee where 90 wins doesn't let you win a division over the Cubs. We have to remember that the NL West is also the easiest division to go win at this point in time.
  24. The fact that the blogger believes Dave Bush is our #2 starter makes me question how much thought and effort went into his post.
