You just have to appeal the play before another pitch is thrown. The home team can simply tell the umps they want to appeal. But I'd love to see the uproar if they then call the guy out and say the home team did not win the game.

Good idea Mickey. I think a change of scenery is needed for both of them. I'm not going to cry a single tear for any player that cries about his pay at the beginning of his career until the Union accepts a cap to limit pay at the end of careers.

It amazes me that someone who works for Major League Baseball makes this kind of an error a week after a Cy Young Award winner is traded. I somehow doubt the writer of the story, a Brewers beat writer, made the error. Of course, they probably figured that since it didn't have anything to do with the Yankees, Red Sox, or Cubs that no one would read or notice it.

FWIW, I sit in the first row right above the field house right next to where it landed. On topic: I would give a ball back for whatever they are willing to give me. As long as CC's arm stays attached until November, I don't care how many pitches he throws. Let the team that signs him deal with dead arm issues in a highly expensive pitcher (ask the Giants about that).

Since I'm a stat nerd, talking to other stat nerds (not everyone, but in a general), and I'm an ex teacher, let me use math to calculate his grade. 10% Pitch hitting/resting guys. I think he's doing a good job this year. He doesn't get a perfect 10 because of his fear of using good pitch hitters early in a game. 8 points. 10% Double switching. He seems to be doing a good job this year. 9 points 10% Pulling starters. He leaves guys in the game for a while, but that is ok in my book. He was grilled last year for being quick with the hook and burning out the bullpen in the beginning of the year. He's trying to coax every least pitch out of his pitchers. So far, none have gone down for overwork, that I know of. 9 points 10% Bullpen use. Not a strong point for Ned. He puts guys into a set inning schedule and refuses to deviate until forced to. Using Gagne 5 days in a row? Keep throwing Mota out there in the 8th no matter the score? 5 points 10% Media relations. This is part of his job. It is not the sole focus of his job, but it is still something he needs to do correctly. There are tons of things that have no point in my work, but my boss still makes me do it correctly. Ned, just answer the questions. If you bring up the fact that pitcher X has a great record against player y and that was why he was brought in, just say so. It's hard to refute decisions like this and the media will probably defend you. Simply giving a smart alec answer and/or claiming you are the manager and must know best does not win you any friends. 1 point 50% Record. The Doug Davis trade doesn't look so good a year later. IIRC, the Sheffield trade wasn't the best either. The Molitor non signing isn't very good. Heck, everything between Molitor leaving and Doug Melvin can probably be called a bad move.

What a great way to wake up from a nap. Go to check the CC thread in the trade rumor section and find it locked. I am so psyched for Tuesday's game.

But there is a lot of fans unsure of how much to give up for CC. There is discussion of trading for a player. Lots of names are thrown around about who to give. There is information that a deal is nearly done. Last time the team went somewhere else (by signing Cameron) that nobody saw coming. I think the situations are very similar, just a difference in the quality of the player we want and the length of time we'll have him.

I agree with TWR, and would like to add Boras to the list of why I would trade Prince. It's like the reason we benched Hall. He wasn't the first pick to go, but was the one that we had a replacement that can readily step in. Braun is signed for (relatively) cheap. I don't think Prince will ever be cheap after this year.

Why would the Reds have any fans left after that deal?

I fear this will be just like the offseason when everyone was positive Rolen was going to be a Brewer. I'll judge the (maybe) trade when it actually takes place.

I'm a little late to the thread, but here is my prediction of a typical Yost led July: 2-1 @ Arizona 2-1 vs. Pittsburgh 1-3 vs. Colorado 1-2 vs. Cincinatti (All Star Break) 1-2 @ San Fransisco 1-3 @ St. Louis 2-1 vs. Houston 1-3 vs. Chicago That should give us a record of 11-16 in July. And we're already 2-0, so there are only 9 more wins left in the month.

Have you ever been hit in the helmet with a pitched baseball? It still hurts, even though you have "protection". It just hurts less. The same thing happens with the cup. The pain is a good 7 or 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. Without the cup it's a "please put me out of my misery".

When my SO comes home from work I sometimes start with something really funny I read on BF.net. Being someone who doesn't know a lot about sports in soon becomes a 20 minute conversation so she has the back story of the ballplayers in question. Then I realize I've yet to ask her how she is or how her day went. I know I'm in love when she doesn't yell at me about this ... most of the time. Optical Drives are like toasters. When they stop working you don't fix them. They are so cheap to replace you just chuck the broken part and buy a new one. If you are not technically inclined, for a little more money you can buy one at a not big box store and have them put it in for you. Watching Milwaukee PC do it for me when I upgraded to DVD is how I learned how to do it.
