  1. Rickie also has the problem of not having a short, compact, high contact swing. Some guys can hit when behind in the count (Kendall) and some simply can't do it. I think Rickie falls in the latter category. I'm trying to get somthing out of these numbers, but the categories are so intertwined it might be impossible. For example, if Rickie swung more at strikes, it will result in more hits. But it will reduce the number of pitches seen, and the number of pitches thrown as strikes. That will reduce the number of hits. So how do you figure out the result of Rickie swinging at more pitches mathematically?

  3. The "problem" is that our outfield already projects as Braun-Hart-Laporta (in some combination). Prince is pretty much going to man 1B until the Red Sox have the rights to talk to him. I believe moving him to C, SS, or 2B is right out of the question. Also, our current 3B has the most experience and is hence paid the most. He will either need to wait for Prince, stay at 3rd, or one of the young outfielders need to be traded.
  4. I feel so bad for the Yankees' injury trouble. This is just terrible news for a great organization. I'll boot up my program. http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/4078/givedamnan9.gif Dang, for some reason it's not working. I have nothing against A-Rod, but something about that team always messes up my program...
  5. I just don't follow pop culture enough. You should see how lost I am when musicians are talked about in OT.
  6. The same reason only having one back-up catcher handcuffs Yost. We already have a short bench, and he might be less willing to use a back-up infielder in a tie game if he is the only one on the bench. With two, he feels better about burning one of those defensive players. A lot of people didn't want Bush in the rotation, but I believe most of those people wanted him in the bullpen. That is why so many people seem to be against the idea of sending him down to the minors. I equate Bush to TGJ. They may not be the best starters, but that doesn't mean AAA is the best place for them.
  7. 1) I used to say someone flipping a coin could do better than Yost. It ends up someone picking names out of a hat would do the same as Yost. 2) We already hired Yost's replacement. He's sitting right next to Yost. The only question would be who do we bring in/up to be bench coach? Or do we move Sveum back to the bench and bring up a new 3rd base coach?
  8. Replies #5, #17, and #19: I need names to go with those almost Brewers faces.
  9. The ticket office sometimes makes mistakes. Between online ordering, phone sales, and walk up sales, the same seat is sometimes sold twice. I've seen it happen many times. Simply inform an usher and they will find you a different seat to sit in (usually a better seat because they know it's their fault). Heck, I've seen them sell tickets to a game that was someone's season seat. And I don't think the Brewers are the only ballclub to have this problem.
  10. You can simply bring in an unopened plastic bottle of soda, so there is no reason to smuggle a flask inside. I always bring in a soda, snacks, McDonalds/Hardees/Quiznos. If you buy the parking in advance it's $8 for general parking. If you buy it gameday it's $10 on the weekends. Also, find time to go to The Keg on a non-game day to buy your tickets. It can save you from the ticket handling surcharge.
  11. As the resident bleacher season ticket holder, let me tackle some of these questions. Since the Brewers have become the "hip" thing, the quality of the people coming to the game has dropped off. The bleachers used (think 2003) to be a place for cheap people to catch a game. Now it's a place for college kids to come and drink, act reckless, and pick fights. It doesn't matter if it's the bottom of the sixth in a tie game with runners on, if their beer empties then need to get more right now. Pick a Sunday to come to the bleachers. Most of the college kids spent Friday and Satruday drinking at the park and are now too hung over to come. And Sundays are generally kids days, where there are a larger percentage of grade school/middle school kids who come. They are annoying in their own right, but won't throw beer at you, fight with you, or yell obsenities. If you can swing it, you should come sit in the bleachers for the Monday game. Weekday game days are non workers day. Everyone is either a part of a school group or is in retirement. It becomes a very calm stadium, but might be overly boring. The fans don't understand the game or don't have the energy to cheer. Last Thursday there were 20k at the stadium but the noice and cheering would have led you to believe there were only 5k. I can go because I've saved up so much vacation time (I ended up not spending any last October http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif ) I don't believe the Club level seats come with the Metavante club pass. I've gotten free club level seats (I would never pay that much money to sit that high, no matter how much wood panneling is around me) and I don't remember ever having Metavante (.300) club seats. The Loge level has bar stools and tables set up right next to the foul pole. Those are very nice seats, but you need to procur them well before the game starts. If you don't mind standing, you can stand out near the scoreboard and bullpens. Those are also popular spots. Honestly, there are few spots in the loge or field level that aren't good spots to watch a couple of plays from. I agree with one of the above posts, if you get field level bleachers be sure they are in the first two rows. Around the thrid row you loose the ability to see the scoreboard. RF loge bleachers are like the LF loge bleachers, but with no sun in your eyes.
  12. Let's say Bush pitches on a Saturday in AAA. Sheets pitches on Monday and has to leave the game with (insert medical condition you've never seen any player have before). We won't need the replacement until the next start on Saturday, so we can have Bush either not pitch for the week or pitch him for only a couple of innings on Tuesday and bring him up to pitch Saturday. He could come in right away as a starter already stretched out. And if Bush was in the bullpen, you now have one less RP during the week, a week in which your SP had to leave a game early. Two down, Turnbow and Gwynn to go.
  13. Ryan was real nice to the family standing in front of me. There were two kids getting bats, and Ryan initiated a conversation with them. He even agreed to sign the back of the Braun jersey one of them was wearing. I was by myself and a 28 yo guy, so he probably thought I was getting the bat to sell. I was impressed with how well the Brewers staff ran the event. My only question was what Prince's "scheduling conflict" was. It's entirely plausable, but my intuition says something doesn't smell right.
  14. Amen End. Cameron coming back means we won't have our worst hitter hitting in front of the big boys and Ned will be less likely to sac bunt/hit and run. I concede that Hart would look really good in the 2 hole, but Cam isn't a bad choice. Our offense is ice cold right now. We know these kids can hit, so at some point they are all going to get hot. I don't see how that doesn't happen. It is in no way associated with the return of Cam to the lineup, but bet your bottom dollar the usual "experts" (The Rock, Sports talk radio, national media, etc) will proclaim Cam to be the catalyst that jump started the offense.
  15. 1) I believe Kapler always takes his right hand off the bat in the follow through. I can't look at video from here at work, but I remember thinking his HR swing looks odd because it finishes one handed. 2) Hart is the only one that seems to always want to go to RCF. He's never looking to pull a pitch, so he never seems to do a good job of driving the ball to LF. That's also what happened to his power, he's looking to dump the ball in RCF gap rather than hit the ball as hard as he can like the guy batting after him. 3) I think their "take pitches" approach is being implemented wrongly. They take until they get the first strike, which is usually a fb over the heart of the plate. Then they need to protect the plate by swinging at all of the outside junk pitches. But they dig the long ball so much they still try to turn those pitches into homers.
  16. Just like I don't understand the obsession with someone who can't hit and can't throw, but his father was good and he can run in track.
  17. Just look at all of those stud prospects we got for Jenkins.
  18. I give umps the benefit of the doubt if it takes a zoomed in slow mo shot to prove they were wrong. But that was a ridiculus call at full speed. Even they guys in the booth that are 200 feet away from the play called it correctly right away.
  19. Combining information from Merriam-Webster and Dictionary websites: Gay started to be used in the 14th Century. It had no correlation to homosexuality at the time. It did have some sexual connotation, but it was used for "improper" social people and places. (prostitute, womanizer, brothel, etc) The homosexual connotation is not recognized until 1953 by M-W. However it appears the word started to migrate in that direction starting in the 1830s. @#$@# dates back to 1508. It means "different, odd", "bad, worthless, counterfeit", "to spoil or ruin", "mentally unbalanced". Again, it didn't become associated with homosexuality until 1922. People started using these two words towards homosexuals and only in the past hundred years do people start associating homosexuality to those words. Some of us still use the original meanings (I always liked the word @#$@# when used in a proper sense), but now it is taken away. It's sad that we're losing our short words and turning German (African-Americans, People with Disabilities, The Los Angelos Angles of Aneheim California near Mountains and the Pacific Ocean). Why make a new word when you can cram together 15 other words?
  20. Well, I'll still keep my torch around for the public lynching of Brian the Automator. Why does that guy keep costing us wins? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Hall will come around. He's a guess hitter who's had to face a number of tough pitchers early in the season. He will feast on the lesser pitchers (which for Hall includes anyone wearing a Reds jersey) and bump his numbers up. He'll never have the high avg or obp, but should hit .260 with a good SLG. Hall had one great year after several good years. Weeks has yet to put up one good year. That is why there is more concern with one over the other. I wouldn't be against dropping Hall another spot or two, but there isn't many hitting on the entire team.
  21. Nooooo! Just when the Brewers are getting good the Pirates and Reds have to go get good GMs.
  22. Hey, we know this team can hit. We only need to think about defense and pitching!
  23. How quickly would the pitch hitter batting 27th be sent down to the minors if he swung at the first pitch? I will be in attendence. I look forward to cheering Jenkins the first time he is up. I am not looking forward to the Phillies giving Bush and the Brewers the baby seal treatment. Hey, that gave me a thought. Are we going to bring back the Baby Seal Award? Or has it perminently been retired to Turnbow's mantle?
  24. No, but since that worked maybe we should start threads about sending Fielder and Braun down to the minors. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
