I really doubt Suppan will be on the opening day 25 man roster. Doubt his pride will accept a bullpen demotion. He'll take a buy-out or a reworking of his contract to be more tradeable ala Andruw Jones. These guys are competitors & they'll want to pitch meaningful inngs.
If a contender with a big budget can predict when he'll get hurt then he's worth the money. Like say hold him out until all-star break. Gets his 3 months in at the best possible time the pennant drive. Too bad you can't predict his breakdown.
I think Doug Davis would be the only one to go near or under the 5 million. I'd still target Bedard his health doesn't seem as murky as Wang's. Although with Bedard its all about desire. Who knows if the Mets grab (Pinero & Garland)a couple arms might be able to get Maine for prospects.
Probably could add Colby Lewis & Vincent Padilla to that list. I'm hoping if Suppan gets drilled in spring ball the crew can negotiate a buyout. Not gonna hold my breath thou.
According to the Boston Globe he's mulling multi-yr offers from 6 different teams http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2010/01/10/a_central_issue_is_how_ellsbury_will_handle_move/?page=5
Yanks won't move Hughes unless they get a slam dunk all-star in return. They'll move him for a Ryan Braun type hitter. He isn't worth that but hey they just got Vazquez for Melky & a high A ball stud.
