  1. So, the pitcher is supposed to react to where the ball is going before the batter hits it? Or is he just supposed to hold his glove in front of his face as soon as he's done throwing? Again, .3 seconds. Go here: http://steriley.com/index.php?/speed/ Try that test. That's just you reacting to a dot and moving your index finger. Now do it again, this time with your hands on your keyboard, or desktop not moving them til you see the dot. Yes, hitters get hit way more often in the head, there are also about 100x more pitches than batted balls up the middle. If my kid ever became a pitcher, I'd want him, at the very least, wearing a soft helmet on the mound. A little extra sweat is worth reducing the risk of a brain injury by 1000%.
  2. If Jennings was on the Spurs he'd never see the floor as he can't run a pick 'n roll and takes dumb shots too often. Both Jennings and Ellis shot below league average early in the shot clock and took the majority of their shots early in the shot clock (0 to 15 seconds). This idea that 'someone needs to score' is pretty silly. If either of them could create for their teammates they wouldn't need to take so many shots. Someone needs to score for the Clippers, that didn't stop Chris Paul from having a 60% TS%.
  3. To say they aren't chuckers is laughable. Here is the list of guys who had a true shooting percentage below 53%, who took more than 15 shots per game and played at least 60 games: DeMar DeRozan 52.3 Al Jefferson 52.2 J.R. Smith 52.2 Kemba Walker 51.7 Brandon Jennings 51.0 Josh Smith 50.1 Jrue Holiday 49.6 Rudy Gay 49.4 Monta Ellis 49.3 So, they were the WORST and 5th WORST shooters who took more than 15 shots per game in the league. Calling them anything but chuckers is doing a disservice to chuckers everywhere. Also, it's been 4 years for Jennings. He still thinks the pick 'n roll involves dribbling towards half court instead of attacking the defense, can't go right, ever, and can't make a shot in the lane. 4 years and he is no better than he was as a rookie.
  4. ABYB. Anybody but Yuni B.
  5. He wasn't. Your glove shouldn't be hanging off to the side like his was. It should be at your chest or your arm pit. So, you're not supposed to follow through with your non pitching hand? Come on. He was squared up, facing home plate, ready to field the ball. The same position every 1B is in after coming off the bag.
  6. Is has nothing to do with not being in proper fielding position. It has everything to do with not having enough time to react to a Ryan Braun line drive at your skull. When the ball is coming back at you at 110+ MPH, and you are now ~50 feet from the batter, that gives you about .3 seconds to react and protect yourself. The NBA says that .3 seconds is barely enough time to flick your wrist to shoot a basketball. Let alone move your hand 2-3 feet to protect your head. It has everything to do with being in the proper fielding position. By the time the ball gets in to home plate you should already be square to home plate ready to catch a ball hit your way. Many and I mean many pitchers don't pitch the proper way and it's their fault or the pitching coaches fault for telling them to pitch that way even if they are effective at it or not. Pitchers and pitching coaches have no basis to complain. How come batters get hit by pitches in the head? They don't have time to react. When a hitter hits a line drive back at the pitcher it will be traveling even faster than the thrown pitch. Explain to me how reaction time has anything at all to do with being in a "proper fielding position" Also, tell me Cobb wasn't in the proper fielding position: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzA4lRET768
  7. Now that Ellis is no longer under contract, the idiotic Bucks can offer him a 4 year deal (which is the maximum number of years a team can offer a free agent, the new CBA prevented them from offering more than 2 additional years onto his current deal). I wish they would just decide to suck this season. This FA class is horrible, and the draft class is loaded. Go young, for once. Instead, they'll sign a 30 year old wing and hope he plays better than he ever has in his career. Welcome to Milwaukee, Iguadola.
  8. You're using a vga splitter, which will just split the same signal and send it to both monitors. Your laptop has no idea that the signal is being split (if that makes sense). You need something where your laptop will identify that it needs to send out a different signal to each monitor. Most laptops will use a docking station to accomplish that feat.
  9. He's been so bad, even Joe Posnanski is chiming in....
  10. I'd just like to say that Gennett is hitting .167 with RISP. It's not like he's been some world beater with guys on.

  12. I hope you do the same thing at your job whenever you make a mistake.
  13. If/when I have kids, there is no way I'd let them pitch without wearing a helmet. It isn't worth the risk. The same way I probably wouldn't let any of them play football.
  14. Weeks is still a better hitter than the 3 guys hitting ahead of him. I don't get it.
  15. It should've been Davis, and they could've platooned Schafer and Davis in LF til Braun is back.
  16. Back in the day? Here he is at 50.... http://www.baseballintheblood.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/glenn-braggs.jpg
  17. In the current scoring environment (~4 runs/game, in the NL in 2013), with two outs, going from 2nd to third (with a man on first) bumps the run expectancy from .404 to .461, which means he has to be safe > 95% of the time for that to be worth while... which basically makes it a stupid, stupid play. And yes, he's scoring from second every single time on a single to left with two outs. He's going on contact.
  18. You do realize they are on option #8 at first base now, right? Hart, Gamel, Green, Gonzalez, Yuni, Maldanado, Lalli, Francisco. I'm sorry, I cannot fault the GM for everyone who could possibly play 1B in the majors who had experience there, either getting hurt or completely being unable to hit.
  19. I would have never guessed George Brett on that one. I was a kid when he played and remember watching him but just didn't recall he had that speed early in his career, I guess I remember him from about 81 on when his SB's fell off. He actually led the league in triples 3 times. KC with the AstroTurf and huge field was a triples paradise. From 79-81, it's park factor for triples *averaged* ~180. (ie: KC gave up 80% more triples than the average ballpark) http://www.seamheads.com/ballparks/year.php?Year=1981&tab=pf1
  20. You don't like it, don't eat it. Plain and simple. Just don't complain when you have no better alternative and refuse to come up with something better when other people choose to eat the mud.
  21. Ersan is a nice piece, but he is what he is.... a role player, and maybe the 3rd best guy on a solid team. You can't build around him, you add him to complete your title run. If they can get #3 for him, they'd better do it. If this draft is weak, picks are cheap. Go for it, and go for a top 5 pick next year. That's my hopeful scenario.
  22. Yes, all the times that Yuni watched a ball 2 steps to his right go through the hole and never got charged with an error.... or when Carlos Gomez makes an error in CF on a ball that, with any other CF out there bounces and is a double anyway.... Those scenario's are why fielding percentage is a terrible way to judge team defense.
  23. The "fans" who are now saying "All Rickie needed was a the threat of losing playing time to make him try harder."
  24. You mean Dakota. They want to drop the "North" part.
  25. It's not easy being drunk all the time.
