  1. It’s weird that as a baseball fan I feel the need to actively root against MLB in the hopes that they lose enough money so the idiots in charge get booted out. They think we are dumb enough to believe that Ken Griffey Jr will be given any real power to make changes? At this point I hope they blow it all up and start a new baseball league. Maybe one that chooses to support rather than destroy baseball?
  2. & how many of those excited people would be dreading owing him 165 million over the next 7 years after he had a bad April? Plenty. But that's the reactionary nature of the general masses. That's not really what I'm saying. We're talking if this passes the "I wish we would have done this" test. I'm saying if we were the ones that acquired Arenado, we'd be looking for reasons to love it, not downplaying it. It'd be no different than when we acquired Greinķe, or Sabathia, or extended Yelich. There would be a few of us in the corner going, "Gee whiz, we kind of gave up a lot," or "Uh oh, this could come back to bite us in 5 years," but the vast majority would be saying "OMG OMG OMG we got Nolan". Exactly. What I’m saying is that there are some deals where it’s like “OMG why didn’t our GM know the price was so low” and this is not one of them. Of course it makes the Cards better, especially in 2021, but this reminds me more of my reaction to the Cincinnati Reds deals of last winter where I didn’t feel any regret that the Brewers didn’t sign those expensive deals.
  3. Does this deal pass the “I wish the Brewers would have made the same deal” test? Feels like a strong “no” on this one.
  4. Despite all of the jokes and crude humor, the reddit wallstreetbets page has been a really good resource for a long time now. Their moderation techniques are state of the art, the top rated posts are usually excellent content. I've learned a ton about investing just from reading it and have been entertained at the same time. I don't participate much myself but I feel like I understand the basics of options trading. Much of the discussion is at a very high level--but when you actually look at the math it has made it clear to me that there really is no secret behind what the hedge funds are doing and anyone who has basic college-level training in mathematics and statistics can make informed trades. And people are very good at giving TLDR/ELI5 summaries that anyone can understand. That's the true reason why GME became a popular stock--because contributors on the forum explained what was happening and why at a level that I think is equivalent to what is discussed at the hedge funds (minus whatever insider information they have). None of that is going away after this--if anything even more people will realize that trading at a high level is within their reach. The fun part is speculating on what will happen on a regulatory level now that it's clear that the hedge funds can't get away with manipulating the market as easily as before. Regardless of what happens in the next week or two, their potential for future profits has been greatly reduced. They will have to be more conservative because of this new X-factor introduced into the market. Or they will have to come up with new and dirtier tricks--which will be difficult given all of the scrutiny right now. It's exciting to watch. There are also fun side effect such as the fact that AMC was able to pay off $600 million in debt the other day. It might have saved movie theatres.
  5. For the best I think. Having just Schilling inducted would be a bit of a PR nightmare...
  6. The current GameStop situation might be a turning point in the stock gambling game, as it seems that some savvy individual investors have acquired enough expertise to figure out the dirty tricks that hedge funds use to make money and crowdsource against them. Certainly fun to watch the transfer of wealth to random people on the internet.
  7. The FG decision on the last drive doesn't even make my top 10 list of reasons we lost.
  8. Back to where I thought we would be...close in the 4th quarter. But the path to get there...LOL.
  9. If the Packers lose, how many consecutive LCS losses would that be for Wisconsin’s pro sports teams? 7?
  10. Ok we can forget about the slow start now.
  11. 3 hours to the Super Bowl. It’s time.
  12. I'm supposed to be afraid of the 9-8 Nets who just lost two in a row to Cleveland? Because they acquired Harden, who caused nothing but trouble in Houston? Does anyone on Brooklyn play defense? I know they will get better, but I'll take the Bucks over that incoherent trifecta any day. The only thing stopping the Bucks from reaching the finals is the Bucks. And particularly Giannis. We all knew the Bucks made downgrades that would cost them wins in the regular season. None of the bench guys that we got rid of made the tiniest bit of difference to the outcome in the playoffs when Bledsoe didn't show up and our opponents figured out how to limit the damage Giannis could cause. The Bucks have shown me enough already to know they will go deep in the playoffs, I'll sort-of pay attention as they cruise through the regular season and end up with a 1, 2, or 3 seed. It doesn't really matter to me which seed they get. At the end of the day they will get knocked out if Giannis can't be the difference in a 7-game series. That said, the ceiling for anyone in the east in 2021 is to be a stepping block to LeBron's 5th championship.

    Pizza

I've actually been ordering just cheese and jalapeno pizzas lately, it's a nice change up for when I get tired of my typical go to of pepperoni and pineapple. Wait, do you not order pepperoni + pineapple + jalapeno? It's my favorite pizza combination!
  14. This looks worse for the Cubs than the Mets, no?
  15. This game should be the best single sporting event since COVID started. We're lucky to get Rodgers vs Brady. I'm more interested in this game than any potential Superbowl matchup. It will almost certainly be a close game that comes down to the 4th quarter. It feels like Rodgers has more on the line than Brady and I think Rodgers' ability to throw downfield will be the difference.
  16. Actually, I think you could reduce the number of scholarships offered by each program from 85 to some number <85. Right now, a small number of schools are hoarding 4 and 5-star recruits on their benches. If the NCAA desired parity (which they probably don’t), this would help spread out the elite recruits over more programs. Naturally, the dominant programs would object and say you’re taking away educational opportunities from people who may need them the most. This could be countered by offering additional scholarships for support staff or grad school vouchers for athletes who complete their degrees but have few pro opportunities. That being said, this will never happen. Anything can happen...as long as it projects positively for revenue. It does appear that parity is not desired. Just frustrating that Ohio State was able to have such a smooth coaching transition since a change in head coach seems to be the only way to switch out a team in the top-4.
  17. This guy checks all of the Stearns boxes. Plays multiple positions [check] Former Tampa Bay Ray [check] Struggled in most recent full season [check] Many years of team control remaining [check] I've never heard of him [check]
  18. That won't stop the endless media blitz of "Can team X make the playoffs?" We'll see what the TV ratings look like, but judging by the semifinal there isn't any motivation to change things. Alabama crushing Notre Dame is going to draw way better ratings than Alabama crushing some other mediocre school with less fans.
  19. I could be wrong, but I thought the rapid tests can only detect large viral loads, otherwise they give you a negative. So the fact that you were largely asymptomatic suggests that you probably had COVID with a low viral load.
  20. I think it's really cool that the optimism and hype for Tesla's technology drove people to invest in and believe in what Tesla stands for. Elon Musk is a big reason why batteries have come down in price much faster than expected. And now all of the traditional automakers are rushing to try and catch up with Tesla. That wouldn't have been possible without all of the bullish investment, it's a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Assuming the investment dollars continue to get re-invested into growth...
  21. I expect a similar outcome to the Titans game...maybe not 40-14 but the Packers will win by at least 14 with the outcome never really in question after Q1.
  22. RIP. The 2001 all-star game will always be my favorite Tommy Lasorda moment:
  23. What a time to have money to spend. With most teams already quitting on 2021 the Mets can discount shop like crazy.
