  1. What really saved the season was finally getting that bum Yelich out of the lineup. Once he was gone, the team really pulled together.
  2. I agree. If this team makes the playoffs, CC should be manager of the year.
  3. Great low risk buy. Only real cost is possibly a 40 man roster spot to protect him from Rule 5 draft. I wonder if they will call him up this Sept to evaluate to see if they want to keep him. Saladino or T.Williams could be dropped from the 40 to make room.
  4. Stokes was also the 7th OF on the roster. If they are planning to add Corey Ray to protect him from the Rule 5 draft, then they would have 8 OFs on the roster. I think this played into the decision as well.
  5. I'll bet some team will claim Stokes. That kind of power/speed/OBP skill is not common. He has two option years left too. All they need is a 40 man spot. KC had 4 open spots so who knows
  6. Tyler Austin is an interesting choice. Apparently Austin > Stokes. He at least fits a positional need. His career OPS vs LH in the majors is 865 (241 PA). Stokes will be missed. I liked the power/speed ability, but he had enough other warts that I can see this. Wilkerson time was due. He filled an organization need (mopup after an extra innings game).
  7. Surprising move but I understand. They had a team option of $4.3M for next year but its unlikely they would do that with the year he had. Maybe bring him back at a lower salary? Will Wilkerson survive another cut? I'm amazed that he has stayed on the 40 man for so long.
  8. Can he play worse defense than Hiura? Let's face it, the Brewers offense needs improvement. Scooter brings offense. Rosters expand in a few days. I say bring him up and let CC figure out where to play him. Well, lets get specific. Gennett's OPS this year is .568 (small sample) and last year was .847. Even if you assume he would hit like last year, the only positions in the brewer's lineup where he would be a significant upgrade is CF and SS. If we are ignoring this years production and instead relying on last year, than I would rather have Cain in CF as when he is healthy he is likely able to produce similar to Gennett with superior defense. That leaves it to SS. Scooter has never played SS at any professional level. I dont believe his offense will be enough to compensate for his bad defense at SS. Hard pass
  9. Here are my predictions: Freitas or Nottingham J. Nelson T. Shaw B. Gamel Faria R. Black F. Peralta T.Williams (still young an talented but running out of chances) Supak (time to give him a shot) Woodruff and Suter when healthy Longshots: T. Taylor (possibly as a pinch runner?), C. Burnes (needs to work on things in Arz), Wilkerson, Stokes (may be going to AFL)
  10. Thanks Reilly and others for doing this again. The writeups were great and informative. This list has a pretty good distribution throughout the minors. I did a quick tally: ML = 2 AAA = 6 AA = 4 A+ = 5 A- 2 RK+ = 3 Rk = 1 DSL = 2 I would have guessed there would be more players coming from the lower minors. Though many, like myself, rate players closer to the majors higher. I think we have a lot more high upside players in the lower levels, just they are too far off, and likewise more risky of making the majors.
  11. The LG promotion is hardly warranted. I guess they needed an OF at Carolina to replace Z. Clark. On the positive side, LG (499 OPS) is only having a slightly poorer season that Clark (502 OPS). So I guess there is that. Surprised they did not callup Dillard who is having a good season. Maybe they don't want to rush him. L.G. just seems like an odd choice, being that he is still very young (19).
  12. Fun Fact: Jake Cousins is the cousin of Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins. https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/washington-redskins/second-cousins-nationals-draft-kirk-cousinss-cousin-jake-cousins-20th-round So they are the Cousins cousins?
  13. I've moved Bickford to the "maybe" column. After the trades and the recent promotions, there are few players that need to be protected. The most obvious is Cory Ray. Then I would say M. Sanchez, Erceg, Z. Brown, Webb are the next ones (Maybe Griep, D.Brown, Perdomo?). We should have plenty of spots open on the 40 man. We have 5 free agents and the 2 mutual options that are unlikely to happen. Plus the dead weight of J.Jackson, H.Perez, Saladino, Taylor, and Wilkerson that could be let go to free up spots. So even with the four 60 man guys we need to protect, there are up to 8 spots still available if we need them. Just a question of which players you would rather protect. If Bickford continues to pitch well for the rest of the season, he could very well be in that mix.
  14. That video was both stupid and hilarious. And also yet oddly realistic? He really sells his part...
  15. The brewers have a pretty sweet list of starting pitchers on the IL right now. Woodruff, Chacin, Davies, and J. Nelson. That does not include Gio who recently came off the IL. That is a season killer for any team.
