  1. The earlier moves make a lot more sense now. Hope Tomlin catches on to another team and does well. I was rooting for him, but it was hard to see where he would fit in.
  2. Tomlin was signed on a minor league contract. I'm sure he has an opt out clause but I don't believe the date was disclosed.
  3. So, the rotation will be Tomlin, Houser, B.Smith. Gotta believe Z.Brown has earned a spot. Wilkerson & Derby in the mix. Supak had a little over a half season at AA, so maybe he returns back to AA to start the season. They have been relatively slow to promote him in the past. Now I wonder if the big three will all make the majors to start the season. I thought for sure Peralta would be back to AAA to work on his control.
  4. As long as he is not taking away starts from prospects. I've got Tomlin, F. Peralta, Z.Brown, and Supak starting at AAA. I would have expected A.Wilkerson to take the 5th starters role, though its a coin flip whether i would rather have Birch or Aaron starting. You can throw in Derby into the mix as well, but not too high on him either.
  5. Hinch seems like a jerk as well. "We have technology to help you get better and that these pitches are strikes," Hinch said he told Hernandez. "He had kind of an arrogant attitude about it and didn't want to hear it." Seems like an incredibly stupid thing to say to an umpire. Maybe Hinch should let MLB handle umpire training or complain the them. That being said, Angel Hernandez is a disgrace.
  6. I think you put the best 5 out there to start the season and worry about this later. Last year only one pitcher on the brewers staff had over 160 IP's. Stuff like this has a way of working things out. It's unlikely all three would be in the rotation all year long (would be awesome if that would happen), so there will be opportunity for some spot starts to give guys rest.
  7. Starting to wonder if Chase might be sent down to start the season. I don't normally put much faith in spring training stats but there is a lot of competition and Freddy has been pitching well.
  8. Wilkerson is 29 almost 30, who had nearly no chance to crack to 25 man roster. How is this guy still on the 40 man roster. For him to be optioned this early is telling. He had only pitched 5.1 innings. Hard to believe they could evaluate him based on that. He is definitely the 40 guy on the 40 man roster
  9. The news headlines way overblow what happened. "Pulling wife to the ground" Fox is saying "he knocked her over". Clearly it was a heated moment and he tried to grab a cellphone away from her. Her chair tipped in the process. Obviously he should not have done what he did but it was not as described in the headlines. I've seen a lot worse on any given night in a bar. If he is not being charged MLB should not be involved in this.
  10. I still have not been able to find out what his contract details are. COTs just lists that he signed a 1yr deal. Seems pretty odd no details have been released yet. I would not expect it will be for much. Maybe the Major league portion will be in the $1M range.
  11. Shaw's career splits are 713 / 837 OPS. Much better vs RH but a 713 isn't horrible. If the guy platooning with Shaw is not better than him, then I would rather have Shaw out there vs the LH. He was respectable in 2017 with a 743 OPS vs LH. Perez career OPS vs LH is 737 although he has been much better the last three years.
  12. I can hear it now: "Counsell is calling for Hader out of the FRRS"
  13. Ask Moustakas how lucrative the free agent market is. Players may want to lock in that long term deal just to guarantee being set for life. You never know what the future holds
  14. Wow. Would have loved for the Brewers to get him at this price. Too bad we did not dip into that AmFam money.
  15. "...preternatural feel for barreling the baseball with a short, impactful right-handed swing that consistently produces loud contact." Somebody got a toilet paper word of the day present for Christmas. Seriously, there is some high praise for Huira in that article.
  16. I think this is a great choice. I've was watching him closely last year when he was putting up these terrific numbers but as you state, very few talk about him. He could very easily be a darkhorse candidate to get some innings with the Brewers in 2019. He should be in AAA to start the year.
  17. My vote is for Devin Williams. Maybe its time to put him in the bullpen full time and see if he can make the majors that way. Hate to miss on a 2nd round pick.
  18. Pina's 2020 team option is for $1.85M. That is a very minimal increase from is 2019 arby salary ($1.6M). I cannot understand why Pina would do this. The 1.6M was actually less than some have predicted so there was no reason to give a team option (at a low value) to get the $1.6M. I suppose he is not expected to get a lot of playing time but still, you would think he could get more than $250k raise in arby next year. He did get some incentives but those are unlikely to be achieved due to his limited playing time. Odd.
  19. I'd be surprised to see Howell skip a level. Maybe he starts in WI but then goes to CS when the short season begins. But the Brewers have plenty of infielders to cover WI. Its great to know about his strong speed skill. I had no idea he was that fast. At worst, could make for a good utility infielder. So it would be good to have him take reps at many different positions.
  20. He was actually pretty good platoon option in 2017; 811 OPS vs RH. He should not ever face a LH though. Going into 2019 he will be 28 so it is not unreasonable for him to repeat that. Hopefully, as others have stated, this is a depth signing. He has that one option left, so that is extremely valuable to the brewers.. I'm sure we will see him up and down throughout the year.
  21. Dula: Seems like he has a tad bit of an issue with control. Career 7.4 BB/9 and it got worse playing in independent ball. Ohh well. Always nice to follow a project.
  22. So, you need to account for inflation when comparing previous years opening day payroll. Just using the CPI, having a $104M payroll in 2015 equates to $111M in 2019. Its not unreasonable to expect a $115-120M team payroll at the start of 2019 now that the brewers are back in contention. From 2017 to 2018 the opening day payroll was increased by $30M.
  23. I dont get this trade at all. If Seattle is just trying to dump salary then why agree to a more expensive, less valuable player in return in Santana. Segura is currently better than Crawford and while older, is still under 30. They did dump Nicasio but he is likely going to have a rebound from his unlucky 2018 season. I would not have traded Segura for Crawford straight up, but then they took on a huge salary for two years and had to give up a useful LHRP as well.
