  1. Any news on Uhen yet? What about Rincon, Owenby, C. Trent, Salas, and Grist? I have not seen them on a roster yet. Are Burkhalter and Kirby still in Arizona rehabbing?
  2. At least we get something for Magnifico. I think Stearns is targeting older RPs. Maybe it's the new "Moneyball" low cost way to fill a bullpen
  3. That is incredibly disappointing. I know Magnifico is unlikely to be anything special but Goforth has been given his shot. I would have rather seen Magnifico or Lopez. Cravy must be stewing...
  4. In looking at the relay again, I think Montgomery blocked the plate. I dont believe you can do that anymore if you dont have the ball first. So even if there was a good throw the ump could have ruled Braun safe. Braun or Montgomery could have been hurt in that play. Braun could have twisted an ankle sliding into Montgomery's thigh an Montgomery could have been spiked by Bruan. Dangerous play, but that was how the game used to be played. I'll never forget that slide by Prince in which he layed out the catcher
  5. I like the Brewers depth at rotation including in the high minors. If there are injuries or under performance we have a lot of options, which will mitigate rotation poor performance. This is why I don't think the rotation will be that bad and will likely be around league average (however you want to define that) or slightly under. As for the offense, I like the Brewers OFs and they have a ton of depth if Santana or Broxton under perform, but there is little high-upside options at the other positions. If Shaw performs poorly we can use Perez but I'm not expecting huge upside there. They wont be able to replace Lucroy's bat at C. Thames is the real wildcard. With a 3yr contract they will give him a long leash and we have no top prospect who could replace him. I'm hopeful on Thames, but if he flops I think we have a black hole in the lineup at 1b.
  6. Ennder, Why dont you think we will have a league average rotation? Brewers pitching staff last year was slightly better than league average (4.08 ERA vs. 4.11 league avr). It was the offense that was well below average. Do you expect a dramatic change in that this year? I dont see it, maybe even a slight improvement based on what we saw in the second half. Its the offense that concerns me.
  7. Go for it Mark. As a fan, this is a great use of the money saved on salaries this year. Much rather it spent this way then on a bad expensive FA. Next up, a AAA club, as long as it is not CS.
  8. I bet Mets feel the same way, considering what Gomez did after the trade
  9. The short Rf at Miller Park will help Thames and Shaw. Will help those increase their hr numbers
  10. He reminds me of Chad Bradford. Career ERA of 1.85 but never got much of a chance before because he only throws 80 mph tops. Hopefully he's a lot like Bradford.
  11. If it's a PR move then ... it worked. It was going to be hard watching this team with the players we lost. Watching Arcia is going to make it more interesting.
  12. Is our deal better than Frazier and Sheffield? I think I would rather have those two. Depends on if there is a 4th and who he is.
  13. Villarl has become very frustrating. The talent is there but I question the head. Two errors and the CS going to 3rd with 2 outs and Lucroy at the plate. Wow!
  14. Suggested news headline: There's a Sale on uniforms in Chicago!
  15. Do we know for sure that Davies will lose 24k or is that just an assumption? I have not read that anywhere.
  16. Now that Smith and Knebel are expecting to return next week, who do you think will be gone? Goforth is the easy choice, but after that it gets harder as the bullpen has pitched well. Torres has not pitched poorly but he is older and probably has little trade value. They may drop someone from the bench. Presley is not needed or Walsh may go down with a mysterious ailment. He has to be close to having enough time on the roster that he can be stashed on the DL until Sept callups.
  17. The car was parked in front of my house. Brewer players were driving around the metro area dropping off the letters. I saw about three letters in my neighborhood still on cars this afternoon. Chase must have gotten lost. My neighborhood is on a dead end.
  18. On our cars this morning was a brewers envelope under the wiper. Inside was a thank you letter with free tickets and signed by Chase Anderson. We thought it was a joke at first, but this is confirmation... http://fox6now.com/2016/04/03/brewers-players-staff-members-hand-out-2500-thank-you-letters-with-free-tickets-for-fans/ Very cool promotion and nice gesture by the brewers. Glad they are doing things like this to appreciate the fans.
  19. Guerra, cravy, neiwehuis are all on the 40 man bubble. Zack Jones as well unless he starts pitching soon
  20. We won't know for sure how good this farm system is for at least 10 years, but we can look back at past years to determine what was the best farm system. This website does a good job of providing the data: http://seamheads.com/baseballgauge/organization.php?franchID=MIL&tab=prospects&first=1969&last=2015&pos=All&positive=N&sort=Tot_a They use career WAR of each farm player by year to provide a cumulative WAR for that farm system. 1987 led with 198 WAR. 2006 was a close second with 188 (and is still going). You could argue 2006 is the best since 1987's WAR is inflated due to the steroid era. Note that even though 1987 is our highest WAR year, the brewers only had the 9th best cumulative WAR that year - 8 other teams had farm systems with higher total WAR - Wow. The 80s were fun.
  21. Best farm system ever? I'm a fan of the current system, but I not sure we are there yet. What about 2004, when we had 6 top 100 prospects (includes fielder, weeks, hardy) per BA, not including Corey Hart. 2006 had even better prospects when you add in Braun, Gallardo, Escobar, Cain, N. Cruz, Brantley. Then consider the systems in the mid 80s (Sheffield, surhoff, bosio) and even the late 70s (yount, molitor)
  22. Gatewood was quite good at Helena other than the ks. I bet most teams would love to have him as their top ss prospect. I think he gets downgraded because he failed at an aggressive assignment. In my mind, he should rank much higher.
