  1. I'm with Baldkin. You can't put Gomez, Betancourt or Lucroy in any of the top 5 spots. Changing where they hit might make a difference in the pitches that they see, but it won't make them better hitters. As long as the good hitters get more PAs, I don't really care who hits where.
  2. I have an ESPN brewerfan.net keeper league starting it's 3rd year. I need at least 2 owners and possibly more. It's a 16 team H2H league with 5X5 traditional categories. Lots of trophies. You would be inheriting a team and choosing 7 keepers before draft day, so serious owners only please. PM me if interested. http://games.espn.go.com/...ueoffice?leagueId=181588
  3. But aren't all of your points reasons why the Brewers could extend him right now for a reasonable price? Marcum could likely put up an even better and healthier season than last and become even less signable, sort of like Weeks has become. He'll be 29 years old for this season, why not sign him to a 4 year deal? He has 5 good pitches along with one of the best change-ups in the game. I say after Weeks, he should one of the Brewers priority, at least while they might sign him cheap.
  4. I'll second The Giver. I read that in 4th grade. I also really enjoyed Watership Down around that same time. Those are still two of my favorites.
  5. Yes, but was your life better in the end?
  6. He was really the only reason I ever clicked on the MLB tab on espn.com. His intro article on SBnation is great, thanks for the link.
  7. I don't have an answer for you since I've never played the game, but I usually head over to gamefaqs when I get stuck. Try the Black Ops message board.
  8. Has anyone seen Dogtooth yet? It comes out on DVD tomorrow I believe. It's a very bizarre Greek film with fresh direction. It might not be for everybody, so read a summary on it first. Even if you don't particularly like the movie, I guarantee you'll be thinking about it once it's over.
  9. And it seems like just 2 years ago that Manny was turning down 1 year/$25 million contracts. Nice move by the Rays.
  10. Good point. He's not really a good option for a late game replacement because he is a bit of a defensive liability and all of the positions that he can "field" are currently occupied by guys that aren't going to be benched very often. So unless he can field shortstop better than our current option......let me rephrase that; and we know he's not a shortstop, so I think he is probably best cut out opening the season at 1B at AAA. I would love for him to get a full season of 1B in at Nashville and then starting next year takeover fulltime.
  11. Yeah, except he's getting paid for what he's done and what he's done is pitch another 5+ ERA season. I hope those bullpen numbers aren't an aberration and he does put up big numbers. Lord knows I love Manny Parra.
  12. I don't think the Brewers lowballing Weeks has anything to do with Greinke. Remember Greinke didn't even want to be part of this team until the Marcum deal, which signaled to him that Prince was staying 1 more year. The Brewers will have a really hard time signing Greinke without Prince and limited funds, but without Weeks I think it's really a long shot. All of the Brewers focus right now should be on signing Weeks and then Greinke/Marcum. I can only assume that this deal isn't done because the front office is concerned with his injury history. Rickie and his people have every right to be upset that this isn't getting done. Second base is a premium position and Weeks is one of the few premium sluggers at the position. When the season starts, one of two things will happen, either Weeks get out to an early hot start like he did last year and the Brewers have no chance of signing him or he gets injured again and this thread is on page 36. I have a feeling it will be the former.
  13. I park 8 blocks away just to avoid parking meters and Gil Meche is giving up $12 million by choice. This is a classy move that won't often be duplicated.
  14. http://www.speedtest.net/result/1111467816.png A wireless router can slow you down if people are stealing your internet. (This internet is paid for)
  15. I agree that money will be the number one factor for Scott Boras Prince when he decides where to go and in my eyes that means an AL team. The fact that the DH exists in the AL means that an AL team can offer more years knowing that they can eventually push Prince to this non-fielding position. The Orioles for instance can promise to play Prince at first, knowing the whole while that he can be moved to DH if his body starts to give or they find a bettter cheaper 1B alternative. Part of the reason I don't want the Brewers to be too competitive in the Prince signing is that I don't like the idea of a 35 year old Fielder at first.
  16. Wow, that's truly incredible. I never knew it was possible to lose the lottery.
  17. If I had to choose 5 of them I would go with: There Will Be Blood, American Psycho, The Natural, Gangs of New York and Sicko (beware of usual Michael Moore spin). I hated The Men Who Stare At Goats and Black Snake Moan, but I know others really enjoyed them. Zodiac is good, but overrated in my opinion. It seemed to drag on.
  18. How bad do you have to be when the Pirates decline to offer you arbitration (~$1 mil)? A bad reputation has followed Milledge since he first hit the big leagues. I just looked at his rotoworld page and he is currently getting in fights down in Venezuelen Winter League. He has the tools, but he's just not good enough to put up with.
  19. I've quit smoking and started up again at least 4 times since this thread first started. I've used the gum, lozenges, and Chantix all at a deep discount thanks to a state program to help people quit. (I live in Montana) I'm a part time smoker right now, only smoking on the weekends or during very stressful times. About a year ago I quit for 3 months with Chantix, but I couldn't get past the starter pack because of the side effects. It wasn't the dreams in my case, instead it was feeling extremely groggy in the mornings and having my entire day feel off schedule. Good luck and let us know how the e-cig works.
  20. I tried to make a list, but it just ended up being my favorite movies. I like all of the recommendations though. I'll have to check some out. Not to get off topic, but I just saw the preview for this movie. I'm intrigued by the glowing reviews and Natalie Portman, but I'm afraid of the ballet. How heavy is this movie in actual dancing? I don't know anything about ballet and I don't really have an interest in it.
  21. And don't forget those calling for Hart's DFA last off season..... My point wasn't that DM should use the fans as a basis for his decisions, I was just playing out the scenario. Waiting for the season to unfold a little bit before making the move to someone else is not a bad idea.
  22. Here are the free agent SS available now that Renteria has signed, arranged from best to worst defensively: UZR/150 at SS / OPS+ / age +18.3 / 73 / 33 - Nick Punto +8.4 / 65 / 36 - Augie Ojeda +7.1 / 64 / 30 - Cesar Izturis +3.1 / 85 / 36 - Orlando Cabrera (type B) +2.5 / 80 / 30 - Bobby Crosby +2.1 / 85 / 34 - Jerry Hairston Jr. -0.2 / 80 / 32 - Christian Guzman -0.4 / 87 / 35 - Julio Lugo The guys we have: +7.0 / 80 / 40 - Craig Counsell -8.3 / 84 / 28 - Betancourt Players mentioned in this thread as trade targets: -1.0 / 98 / 33 - Rafael Furcal -3.5 / 91 / 35 - Marco Scutaro -12.0 / 93 / 30 - Jeff Keppinger I don't know what to say about this list. Obviously everybody listed is better in the field than Betancourt (and I'm being generous using UZR/150), but is DM making the right move if he replaces Betancourt with a guy like Punto who is a slight downgrade offensively? I guess it depends on how bad Betancourt really is and how much his theoretical replacement costs. I think if I'm Doug I would almost rather stick with Yuni to start the season. If he does use a guy like Punto instead and Punto doesn't hit and doesn't make spectacular looking plays in the field, the fans are going to be complaining that he never gave Betancourt a shot. It might be crazy, but it certainly could be the case.
  23. Great story, you got my vote. Almost all of my best childhood memories with my dad are Milwaukee Brewer related.
  24. Definitely go with Mario Kart. When I owned my Wii it was the game I kept coming back to.
  25. An interesting point in McCalvy's article is that Saito is represented by CAA Sports, the same group that represents Braun, Hart, and Greinke. I wonder how much that may have played a role in Saito coming here.
