  1. maxim st. pierre. acquired 27 march 2007 for the infamous ben hendrickson.
  2. with this move, the roster stands at 38. while the player to be named could be a player with a major league contract, it likely will be a player with a minor league contract--keeping that major league roster spot open.
  3. daniel ray herrera was on the brewers 40-man and we was one of two players to be named in the francisco rodriguez trade.
  4. i had forgotten that alfredo figaro had a minor league option remaining. the bullpen is back to seven with the recall of of/1b sean halton.
  5. this move keeps the brewers with a four-man bench. that essentially becomes a three-man bench if they continue to ease ramirez in and replace him mid-game as they did last night.
  6. wow. things have changed. 6.71 era at nashville with a 1.80 whip. olmsted is looking more and more like a candidate to be outrighted to the minor leagues. if no other team claims him, he remains part of the brewers organization. but, if another team does claim him and keeps him on their 40-man roster, he can remain in the minor leagues the rest of this year and for two more years.
  7. the brewers have an eight man bullpen right now. with aramis ramirez expected to be activated today, one would think that a pitcher is removed from the 25-man roster--and not another position player. unless they cut john axford, the leading candidates to be optioned seem to be donovan hand, tyler thornburg and rob wooten. wooten, with a 0.00 era and 0.62 whip, doesn't seem deserving of the demotion, but he is the pitcher with the least amount of major league service time.
  8. i was convinced that betancourt would be dfa'd today when aramis ramirez was expected to be activated from the disabled list. rickie weeks' injury seems to have ensured that betancourt remains a brewer through at least 31 august.
  9. from a tweet from adam mccalvy yesterday . . . could chris narveson's contract be purchased by the brewers to pitch wednesday in place of tom gorzelanny? jimmy nelson started last night, so he's not an option. it should be noted that if the brewers purchase narveson's contract and try to outright him to the minor leagues again, he will have the right to declare free agency.
  10. dealing k-rod was a pretty significant move in the brewers' favor. filled a hole in the minor leagues.
  11. with this move, the roster stands at 39.
  12. ryan braun has company on the restricted list. any news on de los santos and why he's still on the restricted list?
  13. with this move, the brewers 40-man roster is at 38.
  14. burgos was optioned to nashville 28 june. unless he's replacing a pitcher placed on the disabled list, burgos has to stay down at least 10 days.
  15. correct on all counts. it should be noted that fiers is currently optioned to the minor leagues . . . not on the major league disabled list. if need be, the brewers could recall fiers and place him on the 60-day disabled list. he'd see a bump in pay if they did this, but it would free up a spot on the 40-man roster.
  16. first big league hit!
  17. with this move, the 40-man roster is full.
  18. i'm of the opinion that if a promising player without mlb experience has burned his second minor league option, he should get a shot at the big leagues that year. it helps the club evaluate the talent and better forecast for the next two years. hellweg could be out of options as early as 2015.
  19. the brewers also may need to make room for miguel de los santos (currently on the restricted list and not on the 40-man roster). more than likely, the brewers weren't impressed with narveson's rehab outings, and figured that other teams weren't either, so they felt confident he wouldn't be claimed when outrighted.
  20. i'd welcome giving halton a chance this year, if only to audition him as trade bait. entering spring training with taylor green, mat gamel, hunter morris and sean halton all on the 40-man roster doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
  21. hate bumping a thread on a minor league player on a minor league contract in the major league forum, but . . . sean halton is batting .594 over his last 10 games, with an ops of 1.667.
  22. likely candidate for the 60-day disabled list if the brewers need to purchase the contract of a player or take on major league talent in a trade or waiver claim.
  23. 1 for 23 since being acquired . . . with 10 strikeouts. ouch.
