  1. as could brandon kintzler. and possibly carlos gomez, but let's hope it doesn't come to that. i really want gomez back for the september run.
  2. the roster is currently at 39. and mitch stetter and brandon kintzler could both be transferred to the 60-day disabled list after that 40th spot gets filled, opening up two spots.
  3. there were and still are many flights to chicago from oklahoma city. hopefully, a nashville sound got a good night's sleep last night and is either on a plane or at will rogers world airport right now . . . no nashville infielders were removed from last night's game. one can assume that since they're on the road, the player being called up has very little to pack and bring north to milwaukee.
  4. nieves was removed from the 40-man when he was outrighted to the minor leagues, not when he was traded to the braves. the roster is currently at 39, and if it went to 40, additional spots could be opened up by transferring mitch stetter and brandon kintzler to the 60-day disabled list. carlos gomez could also be a candidate to transfer to the 60-day, but everyone is optimistic that carlos could return sooner than 60 days. it should be noted that players can only be transferred to the 60-day disabled list if the 40-man roster is full.
  5. jim stingl chimes in again on the subject . . .
  6. good to see him in the lineup finally. in case you've forgotten, he still has a hitting streak.
  7. is braun going to be available today?
  8. i'm trying to remember when a major league player (i.e. a player on the 40-man roster) became a player to be named later in a trade. i consider minor leaguers players not on a major league contract. doug melvin has been saying all along that the players are minor leaguers. if the mets were getting players from the 40-man roster, wouldn't they want them now (seeing as the majority of them have major league experience)?
  9. http://milwaukee.brewers....chers/index.jsp?c_id=mil
  10. loved the postgame show where he'd recap the other games. if moises alou homered for the cubs, powell would say that nobody was there to shake his hand.
  11. "he hit the pole! he hit the pole!"
  12. that poster does realize that s/he stated s/he wants phillips to come in as a substitute after weeks has played, right?
  13. an email from adam mccalvy: "Herrera was optioned , not outrighted. It was a flukey move based on some rules technicality I had never seen. He is still on the 40."
  14. this link says he was optioned: http://milwaukee.brewers....ear=2011&team_id=158 the brewers' 40-man roster pages still lists herrera. he had at least one option remaining, and the roster was at 38 when we learned he was designated for assignment. i couldn't figure out why the brewers didn't option him . . . in spite of his terrible impression left.
  15. bring permanent markers to victor's. if it's nice weather, expect a wait for a table (unless you arrive before nine am . . .)
  16. i'm not going to minnesota because i'm already here . . . but i am going to all three games. downtown minneapolis now has ambassadors (downtown improvement district . . . or did). you'll find them walking, pedaling or on segways. very friendly, and they are there to help visitors. you'll see their bright shirts. nice ride minnesota bicycle kiosks. rent bikes cheaply and pedal all over the cities . . . we have a great network of trails. ask your concierge or did ambassador for a map. there's even a trail that runs under target field and heads to the river . . . and did i tell you that minneapolis is the #1 cycling city in the nation? downtown spots within walking distance or a short bus or light rail ride: hell's kitchen . . . amazing breakfast, get there early and make sure you try the peanut butter . . . any place that serves surly beer. try them all. minneapolis central library . . . gorgeous building . . . north on nicollet mall . . . free buses run on the mall guthrie theater . . . open during the day and at night . . . go twice for amazing views of the river from the endless bridge (downtown east/metrodome lrt stop; head for the building that looks like an ikea) mill city museum . . . just upstream from the guthrie. highly recommend the flour tower attraction stone arch bridge . . . worth the trek across, especially now that you can't see the eyesore metrodome on the landscape (you'll see it from the guthrie) aster cafe . . . across the river, not too far from the stone arch bridge . . . great outdoor patio walker art museum and sculpture garden . . . the sculpture garden has insane hours . . . something like six am to midnight. the sculpture garden is always free. the black forest inn . . . great german food, even better outdoor patio. take any 18 bus from nicollet south and get off at 26th street, or pedal to mcdonald's at 24th/nicollet nice ride station. actually, an entire stretch of nicollet just south of downtown is known as eat street. name an ethnicity and they have it. look for jasmine deli for the best bahn mi sandwiches. small space, cheap, but oh so good! a little further away but worth it . . . midtown global market along the midtown greenway . . . pedal south on nicollet until it ends at a car wash. go down to the midtown greenway trail and go east (left). midtown global market isn't far. victor's 1959 cafe in the kingfield neighborhood. best breakfast ever. sub cuban toast for your toast. and bring permanent markers. can get there from downtown via one or two buses "scattered light" art installation. i don't want to spoil it with any links. runs from dusk 'til dawn in downtown st. paul (that other city). head towards the minnesota science museum and their steps that lead down to the river. it's pretty amazing. minnehaha falls . . . along the lrt line . . . always great to see. sea salt (in the park's pavilion) is worth the long line. we welcome you to minneapolis!
  17. glad that the brewers had space on the 40-man roster for him.
  18. more than "y'know"?
  19. anyone ever able to confirm if it's "slopper" or "slobber"?
  20. nifty options sorter you do have to take into account players like mat gamel, cody scarpetta and mark rogers--all of whom are using up their final option year in 2011. (scarpetta will likely get another option, but that's for another thread.) bottom line . . . these players can be recalled and demoted without having to expose them to waivers.
