  1. both pablo reyes and dee strange-gordon have experience at shortstop.
  2. took until his 81st plate appearance to draw that first walk. has cut down slightly on strikeouts, but still leads the club with 27. (to be fair, he does lead the club in plate appearances.)
  3. lorenzo cain is making progress. no timetable for his return yet.
  4. the only position players not on optional assignment right now are two catchers. the club has also spent the entire season thus far without any infielders on optional assignment.
  5. we now know that corey ray was part of taxi squad 2.0.
  6. corey ray has been recalled from the alternate training site. he had just burned his second option.
  7. anderson has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained right hamstring.
  8. phil bickford has been recalled. he had already burned his second option.
  9. it's my understanding that player replacements in the month of april can only come from the alternate training site (or the taxi squad from said site). as reported above, aaron ashby, bowden francis and ethan small have been working out in arizona after traveling north with the team to wisconsin. and damuelle reports that leo crawford is in arizona now as well.
  10. kolten wong has been activated and will bat leadoff in this afternoon's game against the cubs.
  11. jace peterson placed on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb injury.
  12. they could have, but it would have been at the expense of major league salary and service time.
  13. fans will be able to evaluate his swing in grand chute.
  14. i know that there's a huge age difference, but jonathan lucroy cleared outright waivers after slashing .357 /.357 /.429 with the nationals in five games. he opted for free agency and is still unsigned.
  15. if placed on outright waivers and no team claims him, he will be forced to accept the minor league assignment. at one point in the past offseason, the club had six catchers on the 40-man. they're now down to four.
  16. the brewers activated jacob nottingham from the 10-day injured list and designated him for assignment. the club has seven days to release, trade or try to outright nottingham to the minor leagues. if he clears outright waivers, he will be forced to accept the minor league assignment. the roster is at 39 players.
  17. kolten wong will be activated friday.
  18. the brewers are currently carrying 14 pitchers. with the three aforementioned position players expected to come off the injured list, i wouldn't rule out a pitcher being subtracted and going with 13/13.
  19. strange-gordon must have an opt-out clause in his contract (probably june or so). i wonder if the brewers had a clause to postpone said opt-out date for as many days lost with the intake process. seems only fair to the club.
  20. right . . . and giving him three innings last night would've been a great way to start stretching him out for insertion into the rotation.
  21. be mindful that strange-gordon hasn't seen game action since an exhibition game 24 march. who knows what baseball activities he's been participating in since then, but it's doubtful that it's been much of anything.
  22. dee strange-gordon is added to the collective player pool. we're not privy to any subtractions (i.e. potentially the aforementioned players currently in arizona), but assuming no subtractions, the collective player pool is at 61 . . . still well under the mlb limit.
  23. deal is official. strange-gordon has been assigned to the alternate training site in grand chute.
  24. a public service announcement that josh lindblom is on the brewers' 26-man roster. with a five run lead last night, i was surprised that he wasn't put in for a three-inning save attempt.
  25. billy mckinney deserves some love. at the start of spring training, he seemed to be a long shot to make the roster--with his most glaring weakness the inability to play center field. in fact, the brewers went out and acquired another out-of-options outfielder who could play center in derek fisher. but the brewers found their alternate center fielder, and a strong spring and an injury to fisher helped cement mckinney's spot on the 26-man roster. it's really been fun watching him play.
