  1. at the end of this month, bobby wahl had been throwing bullpen sessions. expected back in june.
  2. tonight's tigers-yankees game will be the first game where at least 85% of both teams' tier 1 personnel are fully vaccinated. that means masks not required in the dugout or bullpen.
  3. and the opt-out clause was today.
  4. 12 days later, some better news on the 85% front.
  5. it's old news, but the timber rattlers announced that garrett mitchell is opening the season with them.
  6. if jordan zimmerman is on tonight's lineup card and counsell brings him in to pitch, he's gonna be booted before throwing a single pitch.
  7. corbin burnes' injury list placement is indeed covid-related. he is removed from the 40-man roster. jordan zimmermann has his contract selected. he has two minor league options remaining, but enough service time to refuse the optional assignment. the 40-man roster is at capacity.
  8. yes, those are the only four currently on optional assignment. dylan file is unavailable due to injury. corey ray, optioned yesterday, must spend at least 10 days on optional assignment unless replacing a player placed on the injured list or a temporary leave list, or serving as the 27th man of a doubleheader. thus, really only two players on the 40-man who are "available" right now.
  9. of note . . . had any player tested positive for covid-19 yesterday ahead of zack godley's contract being selected, the brewers could have kept phil bickford on optional assignment and on the 40-man roster. the positive-testing player would've opened up a 40-man spot for godley.
  10. it's still considered an injured list--just one without any specific requisite stay.
  11. That would free up a one off for Ashby or Small wouldn't it? yes, but given that this isn't a covid outbreak, said roster vacancy would lack the special exception to the normal rules of 40-man roster management.
  12. when a player is placed on the special covid-19 injured list, he surrenders his 40-man spot, just like being placed on the 60-day injured list. however, a single player going on the special covid-19 list (i.e. corbin burnes) is not an outbreak, and thus, any non-roster replacement player would be subject to outright waivers if removed from the 40-man upon the return of corbin burnes.
  13. if it's covid-related, his spot opens up on the 40-man roster.
  14. corbin burnes has been placed on the injured list for an undisclosed reason. if it's covid-related, his spot opens up on the 40-man roster. the 40-man roster might be at 39.
  15. today is the final day of the alternate training site in grand chute. presumably, the majority of the players there will be filling out the class aaa roster for the brewers. the minor league season starts on tuesday.
  16. cooper hummel has been working out at the alternate training site in grand chute.
  17. only one minor league option is used per season, regardless of how many times a player is optioned to and from the minors over the course of a given season. an option is burned after a player spends 20 days on optional (not outright) assignment, with the clock starting opening day.
  18. i speculated that eric lauer wasn't even part of the postseason taxi squad in los angeles last year. interesting turn of events.
  19. dylan file didn't sustain his injury during major league camp, having never appeared in an exhibition game for the club, and thus, the brewers were able to place him on optional assignment instead of the major league injured list. they can choose to place file on the 60-day injured list to open up a roster spot, but it comes at the expense of major league pay and accrued service time.
  20. zack godley will be placed on the injured list.
  21. bickford is not out of options. any team who acquires him can option him back and forth this year, and he will enter 2022 spring training with one option remaining.
  22. nothing broken in zack godley's finger . . . just a bruise.
  23. nottingham was placed on irrevocable outright waivers. the mariners claimed him, and he must be added to their major league roster. no trade, other than the mariners paying the waiver claim fee.
  24. consider jacob nottingham subtracted from the collective player pool. we're not privy to any subtractions of players in the organization (i.e. potentially the aforementioned players currently in arizona), but assuming no subtractions, the collective player pool is at 60 (assuming phil bickford remains in the organization) . . . still well under the mlb limit.
  25. Because Maile can be optioned back to AAA. Nottingham could not. The Brewers would have had to carry him on the 25-man active roster, and carrying 3 catchers with this roster makeup doesn't make a lot of sense. He was DFA'd prior to Pina's injury. doesn't make sense to carry nottingham on the 26-man active roster, either.
