  1. Nobody is saying to not be superstitious - if that's your thing, have at it. It's this expectation that the rest of us who just want to know what is going on and don't have a thing about the cracks in the pavement have to join in is ridiculous. Freedom to choose - it's a beautiful thing.
  2. This entire "thou shalt not mention the no-no" thread is hilarious. It reminds me of another stupid superstition. This one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Enmztm9uMzQ
  3. Can the great Jorge Julio experiment of 2009 be over now?
  4. If all the quirks had backfired today, we'd not be reading a thread entitled "Kudos to Macha". I think for many, Macha will get credit for lots of questionable moves by the sheer fact of not being Yost.
  5. Not at all. Runner got 3rd on the error, when he would have been held at 2nd.
  6. 65 wins? I'll take that bet. If you've been watching a team that looks ready to quit this last week, you've been watching a different team to the one I have. Too much nibbling, some crappy luck, shocking umpiring and the usual early season small sample sizes are defining us at the moment. That "same old Brewers" schtick just gets old...
  7. Here's what I've learned so far since the season started. Spring training doesn't prepare you for the high pressure of regular play. Case in point, JJ and Duffy, who both had relaxed, monster springs, are having ABs that look rushed and desperate. Prince and Braun in clutch, must-get-a-hit situations, swing for the fences when often a double would do. Coffey is a nice pick up and will help stabilize our pen. I'd feel more comfortable with McClung in rather than Soup. At least Big Red has an out pitch or two. Umpires hate us. That's already at least a half dozen game altering decisions haven't gone our way in the first week. If these things even themselves out, we got some catchup decisions coming our way soon. Brewerfan.net for the most part is letting Macha away with some managerial moves (Bush going too long Saturday, Soup starting at SF, the loooooong inning before the hook last night) that would have gotten Yost absolutely crucified here (pun intended). It's early, but Macha hasn't impressed me much yet. The Brewers absolutely can hold their own against the class of the division (and maybe the NL). We could have taken the weekend 3-0, or lost 0-3. If that doesn't scream competitiveness, I don't know what does. Man, I've missed Miller Park. You forget just how good that first game of a new season is, until you take your seats with a dog and a beer. We're gonna ride the young horses hard, because Soup, and maybe Looper don't look likely to go deep too often. That bullpen may be putting up career highs for innings pitched, come September. Counsell scares pitchers with his normal new stance - so much so that they keep walking him.
  8. There was a Doug Jones that won a prize at the ballpark last night. Is that the same Doug Jones, I wonder, that posts here?
  9. And the irony is that NSBB thinks BRAUN is a butcher in left field! Thanks Alfonso, for the bad read, and for not calling Theriot off for the bloop double earlier. It's hilarious to see the circling vultures fighting over who is more of a scapegoat, Gregg, Sori, Theriot or Lou for his overmanagement! Happy days, if only for one night! NOW it's a Good Friday...
  10. This is again one of those stories that never should have happened. My best friend was killed by a drunk driver, so this hits home to me on a personal level. My wife and I spent some time in Ireland a year or so ago, and they had probably one of the most disturbing Public Service Announcements about the dangers of what they call "drink driving" that I've ever seen. The link is below, but I need to warn you that it is very graphic, but you'll think twice about drinking and driving after viewing it. Rickey I'd love to say that it will change people's minds, but they generally justify their behavior by thinking it won't happen to them. Apparently they are bulletproof.
  11. This is terrible news and must be devastating for his family and teammates. I'm glad they caught the scumbag who did it. I guess drunk drivers don't always drive better when they've had a few, like I hear on an almost weekly basis in this state...
  12. I think they'll get switched back soon, but I'm not worried about 2 games - however bad they both looked at the plate.
  13. See, that's what you get for drafting Cubs! Even in Fantasy Baseball they make your life a misery!
  14. In three feet of snow.Throwing underhand.
  15. I hear your argument, but by that rationale you could buy tickets for a Rolling Stones show and demand that they play all Springsteen songs because you prefer his music. The choice you have is to pay the money for whatever is on offer, or not pay the money and don't get anything signed. The fact that it was not known until you'd waited in line was wrong of the Brewers, but apart from that, Braun doesn't have to do a darn thing he doesn't want to.
  16. It's bigger than the Superbowl in this house!
  17. I can't be the only one that chuckled at the headline "Lyon to the Tigers", can I ?
  18. When I used to make driving tapes (back in the old days!), pretty much every one had to start with Tom Petty "Running Down A Dream". It just does the job - I don't know why!
  19. He definitely looked thinner. From 50 feet away. In semi-darkness. Wearing clothes that actually fit!
  20. I think it was actually the co-pilot that was from WI. Yeah, you're right. I was reading some local coverage and they made it sound like he was the main pilot. That's provincial news stations for you. Imagine if they had been around in 1912. "Titanic sinks, local man feared drowned"!
  21. I love how he refers to that behemoth of a land yacht as a "small" Chrysler!
  22. Which is one of the few times you'll ever see Patrick Mcgoohan mentioned in the same breath as Ben Stiller!
  23. Here's what's bugging me at the moment. Every single FA this season (pretty much) has elicited at least one post on why couldn't the Brewers have gotten (fill in the blank). Usually it has some sort of mention that includes "after all, we paid that bum Gagne $10m last year", or "I mean, we pay Suppan a gajillion dollars......" It's old. Phillis Diller old.
  24. So if a drunk driver causes an accident that doesn't kill anyone, that's okay? Hmmm, that's some strange logic. If anything, I'd lower the BAC to a number which doesn't have drivers playing the "I think I can squeeze in X number of drinks before I'm over the limit" game. A smaller BAC limit would cause you to think about not drinking at all if you plan on getting behind the wheel. Plus, the JS series did highlight just ONE case from every county in the state. It was by no means a comprehensive list of every fatality. They do say that rationalization is the second strongest human urge. I think this thread backs that up...
  25. Mike Cameron could persuade Chuck Norris to play for the Crew - that's how influential he is!
