  1. Congratulations, bud - I'm sure you'll be happy. If you need any vendors for the big day and are unsure where to start, PM me, and I can put you in touch with a bunch. I am involved in the industry and I've seen my fair share of the good, the bad and the ugly as regards wedding services!
  2. You obviously have not been reading the jounral sentinel's series, "Let's Ban Drinking in Wisconsin". Oh, I've been reading it - I just don't think that those most likely to drink and drive have. The number of people I know of who drove from bar to bar on New Year's Eve would seem to back that up too.
  3. What I find most interesting in Wisconsin is that we sometimes expend as much energy on the legalities, and loopholes to drunk driving rather than issuing a blanket condemnation of what is a criminal act, after all.
  4. Yup - it was the passenger window, but I had to keep it up with gaffer tape. It cost (wait for it) $500 to fix. Ouch!
  5. We're in full on Chanukah mode here (my wife is Jew-"ish") but so far I'm at: Blu Ray DVD player Philips Region Free DVD player (for all my UK comedy shows on DVD!) Brewers Mr. Potato Head (!) Tickets to the Winter Warmup Assorted jeans Top Gear T-Shirt (I AM the Stig) DJ Headphones T-Shirt Echo and the Bunnymen Live DVD Clash Live DVD Sigur Ros CD Microfiber Shirt Arriba Bags for DJ Lighting The Fall on Blu Ray still waiting to open the gifts from my family in Scotland, but so far I'm very pleased and grateful for the wonderful pressies!
  6. Top Albums of 2008 for me. 1. Elbow - Seldom Seen Kid (I'm listening to it as I type, which only confirms its magnificence) Others in no particular order Fleet Foxes - Kings of Leon - Only By The Night James - Hey Ma (They are back!) Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely TV On The Radio - Dear Science Keane - Perfect Symmetry Portishead - Third (Even a so-so Portishead album is head and shoulders above almost everyone else) Last Shadow Puppets - Age Of The Understatement (Scott Walker 4 as done by Arctic Monkeys! - yay!) KT Tunstall - Drastic Fantastic Ting Tings - We Started Nothing and a bunch of others. Not a stellar year by any means (and quite a few late 2007 that I listened a lot to, such as Yeasayer, MGMT, Underworld, Hot Chip, Radiohead and the magnificent Mark Ronson album)
  7. It's not the ridiculous names I have a problem with so much as the fact that we let these people vote. As the Maitre D' at Chez Quis once famously said "I weep for the future"!
  8. I don't think the influence of his agent and the Players Union has been really taken into consideration. Both have an interest in him taking the highest offer, both have persuasive powers wayyyy above Brewerfan pleading with him to come back, so I don't get the surprise and incredulity here. We offered (for us) a king's ransom and it was still short by the equivalent of the GDP of Bulgaria. It's nonsense to suggest that Melvin overplayed his hand - he presented a deal, CC took his good time while all the bargaining went on and, finally, the inevitable happened. The Hot Stove hasn't exactly been piping hot for pretty much every team without the word "Dodgers" in their name. And if Melvin decides CC was gone at the outset, and goes out to get a FA pitcher, what message does that give? We gave it a shot, but I'd rather have that than just sigh and give up without a try. There seem to be a number of prom analogies flying around, but I think this is more like the movie Some Kind Of Wonderful. The Brewers are Eric Stolz, all blue collar and lacking in self esteem. CC is Lea Thompson who only dates the rich kid (the Yankees) because her friends (the Players Union) tell her to, even though there's something about the cut of Stolz's jib that she likes. For the benefits of the analogy Mr. Cut-of-his-jib is Mike Cameron. Ultimately, she's out of his league (natch), but he eventually winds up with Mary Stuart Masterson who's secretly been admiring him for some time, and they are a much better match together. So, Doug, go out and find the Mary Stuart Masterson who wants to pitch for the Brewers and we're set!
  9. After this morning's announcement about the CC and the Yankees (surprise surprise) I guess #2 is now a moo point...
  10. Two things: 1. How does this signing have anything to do with re-signing CC? 2. Does anyone seriously think that CC is coming back anyway? And if so, do they still believe in Santa Claus?
  11. We've been waiting as long for "Chinese Democracy" as....well, Chinese democracy. GNR without Slash is like AC/DC without Angus and therefore doesn't bode well. Color me surprised if it's anything other than awful.
  12. So many cats, so few recipes... It never ceases to amaze me that people i know will potentially ruin a lifetime relationship with a partner over an animal that might be 10 years, tops, in their life.
  13. Let's hope that Sveum is one of those guys that goes by the adage "those that can, do - those that can't, teach", cos let's face it, his career average doesn't exactly scream of putting the bat on the ball consistently.
  14. To go along with the pennant, they should market a big foam finger with "We're #4" on it! I guess what I'm saying is, no banners until we actually achieve something that isn't a consolation prize.
  15. There's a Cubs fan over there named IMB, for whom I wish nothing but abject misery and suffering with every Cubs loss. Everyone else is just gravy...
  16. I still believe, but I have a feeling that I used up my account at the Belief Bank just getting here.
  17. I think the Phillies plan on starting Hamels tomorrow, too. It's not like he's being tested much here...
  18. As much as I am a so-called "Yost Apologist", I've conceded since spring training that not making the playoffs would (and should) result in this being his last year in Milwaukee. With 12 games to go, however, changing the manager without a better reason than "hey, we lost a bunch of games it would have been prudent to win" is just moronic. Having gone 20-7 in August (something Harvey's Wallbangers never managed to do), I don't recall too many "Fire Yost" comments coming into the final month, yet 15 days later, it's all his fault? Seems fair... I feel a Jim Mora moment coming on. Playoffs? Don't talk about playoffs - it'll take at least a few of the remaining 12 games for everyone to get over this ridiculous timing. Mark A has barely put a foot wrong since taking over. This one's a biggie - it'll cost us the postseason waaaay more than a week and a half of underperforming will. Bank it.
  19. Anyone who boos for the team they "support" for anything other than lack of effort is an idiot. No, that's not entirely true. If it's at Miller Park they are probably a drunken idiot. They say you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. I'd suggest that we'd see better results with encouragement rather than derision.
  20. Dude, are you freaking kidding me? Everyone on here needs to get a grip. We've got a huge lead in the WC, we're coming off a huge sweep of the Pirates. Bullpens give up leads occasionally. It happens. And frankly, it hasn't happened all that often in the second half to the Brewers. Chill Careful, you'll get labelled a troll by the "we should win every day" brigade. Perspective is a marvellous thing, but we suck during IGTs at it.
  21. Nice smart ass comment. I never said I was better than anybody or that I should have an MLB job. You seem to always make a smart ass comment when somebody disagrees with Yost. Give it a rest and whine about something else. Hello, Mr. Pot? I believe there's a Mr Kettle on the phone for ya...
  22. He wouldn't have been in if I was managing. Of course not. I'm just astounded you don't have a MLB job already...
  23. And what are they doing ripping on Yost? Only we can do that to our pledges!
