  1. What the hell. I wonder what the heck he took; I guess throw an asterik on this MVP; better yet Braun should just give it to Kemp. This royally screws up next year. Just stupid
  2. So of all the potential replacements for 1B why on earth would they want Casey? If they really want him just get what you can get from them and move on.
  3. Why isn't K-Rod in that group? Just oversight; he should be in the group as well
  4. If people really believe the Brewers could afford $120 Million budget than I don't know what to say. Do people think that the Brewers are bringing in $150 Million in revenue and Mark A is just making a monstrous profit? If the Brewers could afford $120 Million for player salaries they wouldn't have had a $95 Million payroll last year in the midst of a world series chase. If the Brewers could afford a $120 Million payroll they wouldn't have pulled their offer to Saito (Or decided against offering) as soon as they found out Krod accepted arby. I just don't think there is any reason to believe that their payroll isn't maxed out at around $95 Million. Mark A has deep pockets but he didn't get to be rich by making dumb business decisions. I am sure he makes a modest profit and that is about it. Maybe Melvin is bluffing and he really could go up to $100 Million; but thinking they could go as high as $120 million is a little far fetched. If you are in the $120 Million range you are almost certainly a large market with a monstrous TV contract.
  5. I never really liked Aram but only because of the walkoff he hit a few years back that broke our backs. I always thought he was a good player but he hada habit of killing the Crew it seemed
  6. So the Fielding Bible said Gonzalez was the 3rd best defensive SS in baseball last year behind only Tulo and Brendan Ryan. That has to mean something right? Defensive metrics have varied quite a bit but a poll of 10 experts on these matters putting Gonz at #3 carries some weight with me. Gonz was a close 3rd behind Ryan but way behind Tulo. Gonz was ranked just ahead of Alcides Escobar Thoughts? The Brewers put up an awful showing; Braun was rated the 10th best RF, Grienke the 7th best pitcher, Lucroy, Narveson, and Marcum also got votes. It is pretty telling that the Brewers did not have a single position player ranked higher than 10th; thats how bad our defense was. http://www.fieldingbible.com/complete-votetally.asp
  7. I also would love to see Aram; he would look pretty nice in the lineup. I think RR would use Hart in the 2 spot before Lucroy though (Assuming Morgan leads off) Lucroy is probably destined for the #7 spot.
  8. To afford Prince; Melvin would have to trade two of the following: Grienke, Marcum, Hart, Wolf. It is probably as simple as that. We would probably be worse off trading those two guys just so we can afford Fielder unless we would get average to above average MLB talent in return. Grienke is probably the only one that could get that kind of return. TH is overshooting on the Krod salary though; he is assuming something like $13.5 Million; I think it ends up being closer to $10 or $11 Million since the 20% rule doesn't apply to FA arbitration only pre-FA arbitration. Krod would be a curious arbitration case if it came to that; Krod would want to be paid like an elite closer and the Brewers would want to pay him like an elite set up man; quite a difference there. I have always thought that if Melvin could convince Krod to sign a reasonable 2 year deal (Like 2/16) that he Melvin could probably trade him fairly easily to a team that needs a closer. If Krod insists on a 1 year deal at $11 Million + it would just make it that much harder to trade him. None of this really concerns Fielder though as nothing will be enough to resign Fielder without severly damaging other parts of the team.
  9. If we could somehow get Gonzalez to hit closer to 2010 than 2011 than this would be a pretty decent offensive upgrade as well. A 700 OPS and/or an OBP atleast somewhere close to .300 would be a massive upgrade over Yuni; not even including defense. My guess is around $2.5 for Year #1 and $3 for year #2 if he gets to a certain # of at bats
  10. Plus Albert is really like 35 years old. Prince still has atleast 3 years of his prime coming up yet and hasn't really gained any weight over the years either (At least that I recall). Giving 6 years to Prince seems a lot safer than giving 10 to Pujols.
  11. I guess why is everyone assuming that Taylor Green won't be given a shot to win the 3B job? In the past Melvin has said less than flattering things about Green but considering how McGehee hit last year you would think it would atleast be an open competition in ST.
  12. Better than the alternative We still have a crappy no hit SS with occasional power; but atleast this one can actually field his position.
  13. I guess if we can afford Krod while also fixing SS and 3B; more power to em. I am just skeptical. But then again would starting Taylor Green at 3B be the worst thing in the world? He can be our David Freese.
  14. Sure lets go and sign Fielder for 6/150; then we can just go trade/not resign Marcum & Grienke and suck again for the next 4 years. I don't see anyway we can sign Fielder and still manage to have a good pitching staff.
  15. Obviously great news for Brewers fans. So long as Prince ends up in the AL; I would consider this a best case scenario. The Cards will still be a strong team but you certainly have to believe their offense is going to take a major hit. Berkman is just old and shouldn't be expected to duplicate what he did last year especially without Pujols around That is a ton of money that the Angels will surely regret 4 or 5 years from now but I could careless; very good news for the Brewers
  16. Even though Krod's decision was unexpected I am sure Melvin had a plan in place in case it did happen; after all that is what Mark A is paying him for. Who knows what the plan is. They could keep him, trade him, or cut him. Only the Brewers know what budget they are working with so I am just going to trsut DM that he prepared for this and he still has a solid plan to improve the glaring weaknesses at SS and 3B. It might take some time though. Brewers could really screw over Krod if they cut him really close to the deadline during Spring Training and only pay him the $2 Million or so; he might be hard presses to find a decent paying job at that point and might have to wait until someone gets hurt.
  17. If RR is an idiot for having very defined roles in the 8th and 9th inning than just about every other manager is an idiot as well. If you have Axford and Krod you use them in the 8th and 9th; 29 other managers would have done the same thing. (TLR might play a hunch and through Estrada in there and have it work spectaculary) RR has his faults but his use of roles in the bullpen isn't really high on the list IMO. Who knows what he would do if he would have actually had an effective LOOGY; we won't find out until he really has one.
  18. I would love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation Carlos I don't know what to tell you but you pretty much suck; just try to bunt more OK because you can't really hit.
  19. I don't think you can call this an epic failure on December 7th. Doug definitely could trade the guy; granted we wouldn't get much of a return and might have to eat some salary; but some benefit could come from this. Krod has just as good of odds of posting a sub 3.0 ERA than he does imploding and going above 5.0; no way you can predict how he will do.
  20. THe problem is I don't think there is some fantastic SS option that is a better alternative. Rollins and Furcal are just as risky if not moreso. I would just rather spend the money at 3B and get a cheap SS to fill the void.
  21. Well Aram is probably impossible as of right now since we are paying a set up man $12 Million.... Something is going to have to change to afford Aram and by the time Doug figures it out; Aram will probably have signed somewhere else by then
  22. On one hand we would have one hell of an 8th and 9th inning duo; on the other hand we now have no money to fill some glaring holes. If Krod stays on the team Doug is going to have to get creative with trades to fix the left side of the infield. What we probably now have less than $10 million to spend on SS, 3B, and the remaining relievers?
  23. I agree with out about not paying him 15 Million a year; but would consider 2009 and 2011 great seasons. Obviously his 2009 was cut short by injury though. Maybe it just a matter of opinion; but I consider an.871 OPS great for a 3B; correct me if I am wrong. 2010 was really his only bad year in a really long time
  24. How does nice numbers and no impact make any sense? Putting up good offensive numbers certainly has an impact on the team. Is it implied that Aram is some kind of anti clutch player that accumulates stats in meaningless situation or that is poor fielding and poor demeanor somehow counteracts his offensive firepower? I guess I am not sure what you are getting at here. The Astros would love to get rid of Lee because the owe him a bagillion dollars and are a horrible team. The Brewers wouldn't owe Aram nearly the annual salary and the Brewers are positioned to be competitve. I don't see how the situation is all that similar Aram has been one of the best offensive 3B in the NL for a long time now; I would gladly take him for the right price. I would take him for 3/30 in a heartbeat. Obviously signing Aram wouldn't be without risk but there isn't a decent FA out there this year that is not without a good amount of risk. Aram, Rollins, Furcal, Fielder, etc they all have major question marks
  25. Are we even rumored to be after Furcal? We will probably end up with Yuni or Gonzalez at SS. That could be a pretty darn weak left side of the infield both offensively and defensively EDIT: And Gamel deserves his shot a 1B; getting good production out of 1B for very little salary will be huge for MIL
