  1. Rotoworld is reporting that the Brewers at least inquired on Daniel Cabrera. Count me as uninterested. We have enough question marks in the rotation already, I think we need a proven commodity. The only thing Cabrera has proven is his crappiness both pitching and hitting. I guess Ben Sheets is Babe Ruth compared to this guy.
  2. So is he suppose to be ready by Spring Training so he has a chance to win a rotation spot or is a midseason return more realistic?
  3. I think there is certainly better than a 50/50 shot that Moyer doesn't earn this $15M, I mean for gosh sakes he was born in 1963 and is still pitching. Yeah he had a good year this year but giving 2 years to a 45 year old dude seems a little unnecessary. But considering what other FA pitchers are available it probably really wasn't that bad of a bet.
  4. So the Estrada trade was a bad trade? That is news to me. Seems like it worked out alright for the Crew. But anyways the NY Daily News is once again reporting that the teams are trying to get Bill Hall into the package again
  5. So who was all their yesterday? I bought my tickets one week after they were available through Ticketmaster and the best available were in 441. Needless to say, being in 441 did take away a little enjoyment because me missed out on a lot of the lights show. That being said it was still a darn good show. They probably shouldnt have even sold tickets in 441. I also have a hard time believing that those were the best tickets available after only a week of being on sale.
  6. I certainly wouldn't mind taking a flyer on James. He had two pretty decent years in 2006 and 2007 but was horrific last year. While not frontline he would be a decent #4 or #5 guy (Although we probably have enough #4 and #5 guys already)
  7. I didn't realize there was a limit on how many good players you can sign at any given time, it seems like an odd rule to me. So I suppose it was designed with the Yankees specifically in mind? I am assuming the rule is somewhat complex, what if a team loses no Class A FA's yet wants to sign one?
  8. So are the Yanks still going to go after Derek Lowe and Tex? Regardless of what you think of the team, they have made themselves better so far this offseason, altough I think a 5 year contract to AJ Burnett is a huge mistake. He has only pitches in 30 games twice in the last 6 years and it wasn't like he was dominant last year either. But then again the Yanks won't be hurt all that much if he pulls a Pavano anways so they might as well spend the money.
  9. By the way has Mr. Phillips ever admitted to being a moron regarding that trade. Its odd that he is employed by ESPN to atleast in part talk about baseball from a GM's perspective yet he made one of the worst trades in recent memory and generally had a pretty poor career. Whats next Isiah Thomas and Matt Millen?
  10. I don't want a player who doesn't care about baseball on the Brewers. As long as said player is willing to punish the baseball by hitting it about 500 feet I don't care if the player likes the baseball or not.
  11. So I thought we were suppose to hear something about this today since TH basically said it would probably get done today? The suspense is killing me and I really hope we are getting something else out of this deal not named Igawa.
  12. I didn't notice this thread until now but I brought up Tavarez in another thread. He had a pretty bad year last year but did have 2 decent years prior to that. To me Melky and Wily would be a toss up as both have advantages over the other Also count me in for wanting Gabe back
  13. Would anyone be at all interested in Willy Tavarez for CF since he is going to be non-tendered by Colorado? He had a pretty bad year in 2008 outside of the steals but had a decent year in 2007. I am not saying I am all that interested but if we are serioulsy considering Melky Cabrera for CF next year why not Tavarez? He obviously has less power but it looks like his OBP is atleast on pat with Melky and he has much better speed. I am not sure on the defensive abilities
  14. Ibanex has just agreed to a 3 year contract for $30M, so Ibanez is a $10M player
  15. would be extremely happy if we could sign Johnson and one of the other 3. Sure none of them are #1 guys but a rotation of Gallardo, RJ, Bush, Parra, and Smoltz/Moyer/Wolf still is atleast capable of contending as long as the offense produces
  16. So according to Law, Morlan is basically Ruben Quevedo, fat and out of shape with declining velocity?
  17. Cameron, Hall, and Fielder for Melky Cabrera, Phil Hughes, + change. Sign Adam Dunn to play 1st base.
  18. That posting makes it sound like Doug wants no part of a 1 for 1 swap, another player has to be involved, especially if any salary is getting picked up by the Brewers. But it seems Cam straight up for Melky is not happening.
  19. If they don't want Hughes and Kennedy I will take them, because if it were expanded to Fielder, that is what we would be getting back
  20. Since the Yanks have gotten involved in the Tex sweepstakes I wonder if the deal could even be expanded to include Fielder?
  21. A year of Cameron playing for the Brewers plus draft picks>Melky Cabrera + $9.5 mil. I do agree with FtJ that Cameron may have accepted arbitration, but I don't think that's a sure thing either. Well what if the Brewers didn't offer him arbitratiion next year? Then it would be Cabrera +9.5M > Cameron for 1 year. Heck if we offered and he declined arbitration we wouldn't see any fruits from the draft picks for 5 years so it could ba argued that this trade helps the Brewers out more in the next 3 years than keeping Cam for one year would have. Cam isn't exactly the type of player that "puts a team over the top" anyways although I did really like him. I see the merits of the trade but I also see why some people are pissed off since it seems like the actual player return is pretty poor
  22. That can't possibly be ture, why else do this trade other than getting rid of salary. Paying part of Cam's salary makes no sense whatsoever, maybe if him and Melky are equals but they are clearly not equals
  23. Cabrera is much more talented then what you give him credit for. His performance last year was certainly worthy of a 5th outfielder but by all accounts he projects to be a solid CF. Give Doug some time, he still has a ton of money to burn this offseason and I have a hard time beleiving that he is even close to done dealing. I mean we are atleast $25M under last year even after you consider raises to our arby guys. (Gagne $10M, Cam $10M, Turnbow $3M, Sabathia roughly $7M I think, Sheets $12M, Etc) I doubt Melvin is just going to sit on all that money.
  24. I really don't want to see Kapler playing centerfield unless it is a dire emergency. Kapler was fine in a part time role last year and arguably played above his head, I certainly wouldn't count on that same production this year especially if he get 100 more AB's or so
  25. So how is Melky defensively? Instinctively I immediately thought the defense would take a hit, but I admittedly don't know a thing about Melky's defensive ability
