  1. I am fine with this so long as Doug has a good plan for the money he is saving by dealing Cameron. If by dealing Cameron we can sign or trade for an upper tier SP or 3rd basemen I would be fine with it. Melky has some potential obviously but I think the more important issue is the fact that we now have nearly $10M to spend elsewhere. Doug obviously feels Melky will be adequate to play CF, and the money saved can drastically improve other areas of the club, thereby offsetting the loss of Cam's offense EDIT: Rotoworld has it as a straight up Cam for Melky swap, well see if anything else is involved
  2. That is mind boggling. CC must have really needed some convincing for NY to offer $60M more than anyone else. Well at least we can finally move on, hopefully the Yanks don't sign Sheets as well
  3. All that this speculation is doing is getting my hopes up, only to be dashed the moment SF, LAA, or LAD makes an offer. It makes me happy that CC looks like he will stay away from NY but I am realistic that a west coast team would be stupid not to make an offer considering CC is all but saying give me an offer and I'll sign.
  4. I think Prince and Cain would get Beltre, Morrow, and Putz since it seems like they want to get rid of Beltre's contract.
  5. According to rotoworld the Indians are close to signing Kerry Wood for 2 years with a possible 3rd year option
  6. I will be at the Milwaukee show this Sunday. I went for the first time last year and it was pretty incredible, it is certianly something I plan on going to every year. The only negative is that we had a college aged punk swearing F Yeah after every song. He eventuallt got kicked out but it was annoying for a while. I am pretty sure he was doped up on something. But yeah jeans and a sweater would be fine. I think that is what I wore last year
  7. I would be very interested in Morrow and Putz, if we could someone get them w/o giving up any of our current MLB roster (atleast the important guys) I would be very happy. I think I would be more than fine parting with Gamel if it meant getting Morrow & Putz back
  8. I thought the Cubs had a pretty strict limit on payroll this year, by adding Bradley at $10M+ and Peavy they would adding on quite a bit of payroll without getting rid of a whole lot. I find it highly unlikely that they find a suitor for Marquis who is willing to take on most of the salary
  9. There is now a rumored 4 team deal with Cubs, Phillies, Orioles, and the Padres involved. All told the Cubs would be giving up Mark Derosa (To Philly), Felix Pie (To Baltimore) and Sean Marshall (To SD) to acquire Peavy. That seems like a lot IMO and it really does leave them with no depth whatsoever. However that would be one hell of a rotation if they perform to expectations. I can't imagine they are too wild about trading DeRosa though, he was a pretty big piece for them last year
  10. I am pretty sure CC would have no effect on a trade like this, the salary effects would be relatively minimal at this point.
  11. Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe has heard that the Royals and Braves are in serious discussions about a trade that would swap Jeff Francoeur for Zack Greinke. According to one source, the only thing holding back the deal is the Braves' impending deal with A.J. Burnett. Royals GM Dayton Moore worked with a young Francoeur while the two were in Atlanta. The Royals would cut payroll with the move, but the Braves would be the clear beneficiary if this rumor has substance. If that is the case why doesn't Doug get on the phone and ask them if they are interested in Hart? If all it takes is Francouer to get Grienke I would deal Hart straight up for him in a heart beat.
  12. Pretty much everything is closed in FDL, although here I am at work expecting pretty much nothing to happen all day. Roads weren't too bad, the real trick was getting out of my apartment parking lot.
  13. He does have a point, that is unless teams will want that Soriano contract http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. There was talk about the Yanks signing Punto for a utility role. Hall is basically a super utility player so it seems he would be ideal for the Yanks. Packaging Hall & Cam to the Yanks sure would free up a lot pf payroll for other transactions although the trade would create more holes to fill
  15. If that is the only way CC signs with us, Melvin has to include it. I would be happy if CC just stayed for 3 years, by then who knows what pitching talent we might have. I would be more than happy to sign CC to a 6 year deal with an opt out clause if it guarantees he will be a Brewer for 3 years. Its probably a more ideal situation for the Brewers anyways. I don't understand why it would be a bad thing to have CC for the next 3 years
  16. There is also no way Melvin can make an offer like that with his CC offer still on the table. If CC does go elsewhere and Sheets hasn't signed I wouldn't be suprised if Melvin made contact. It is pretty obvious that CC should be the #1 target until proven otherwise, its pretty pointless to even talk to Ben right now. What he is going to tell him? Well hold tight for a month, once CC signs somewhere we will get in contact with you? It would be pointless. Sheets has been treated with nothing but class throughout his entire Brewers career. The fact that the Brewers areb't aggresively pursuing him because of his injury issues and other priorities does not show a lack of class and I would hope he understands that.
  17. I can't even fathom that the Milwaukee Brewers are even rumored to be offering 6 years and $120M to anyone. It is just ridiculous. The opt clause would essentially make it a 3 year deal if he pitches to expectations because he surely could get more monet 3 years from now. I would think if he refused the opt out clause it would be bad for the Crew because he either got hurt or didn't perform to expectations.
  18. I like it, spend the money in other areas. Bullpens are such a crapshoot anyways, Doug might as well go low-risk. You just never know year to year how a bullpen will be. We are better off making a solid rotation so we don't have to rely to much on the bullpen.
  19. Burnett & Sheets both pitched much more in 2008, were better in 2008, and weren't accused of being fat overweight slobs like Penny was. (Although some insist Sheets is lazy and out of shape). I just don't think you can sign Penny and fully expect him to be in your rotation the entire year. With the limited depth the Crew will have at SP you need someone you can count on to pitch 30+ games and their is no way Melvin could count on Penny giving him 30 starts. I would probably be more confident in Randy Johnson giving us 30 starts than Penny at this point, and they would probably cost about the same. Plus RJ would just be another guy to help Parra along (hopefully)
  20. I really wonder who the two mystery teams are and how they have actually managed to keep this a secret. Or this could all be an elaborate ploy by the Sabathia camp. Maybe there are only 2 offers but they want to teams to think that there are 4? I am not sure of the advantages of that strategy. I guess I have a hard time believing that two teams made offers to CC more than a week ago and absolutely no one within the organization has spilled the beans. Actually it is impossible to believe. The obvious teams who may have made an offer already are SF, LAA, and the LAD but I don't know who else was even showing remote interest in CC.
  21. It also seems to me that they got the Twins and Crew mixed up because the Twins are known to have offered 2 years so they would certianly be in the running for his services. I don't think I would be strongly opposed to Blake but it would really only makes sense if the Crew is not confident in Gamel at 3rd. Everytime the subject comes up they always insist that they feel he can stick there. Of course they said that about Ryan Braun to until they actually saw how bad he was in person.
  22. I think maybe he would be forced to try every play since a lolly pop pop fly to left is a little different than a 90 MPH fastball from Hardy, he'll have to try harder just to not get killed.
  23. This seems like a typical Low risk- High Reward bullpen deal that Melvin is known for. Nothing is wrong with that I suppose. I would like to add atleast one non-question mark to the bullpen though.
  24. I love me some Whopper W/Cheese. My other favorites are pretty much anything from Taco Bell, the Flamethrower from Dairy Queen, and the chicken bacon & swiss from Arby's (W/Arby's sauce). Culvers has gotten to expensive to be considered fast food for me. Sure it is "fast" but with what you pay there you might as well go to a decent sit-down place.
