  1. I always thought the issue was years? If we offer $18M just like the Indians did but offer one more year than they did, i think we might have a chance
  2. I don't thinK Nantz is all that bad but I will 2nd the Gus Johnson talk, he is awesome to listen to. Packer is proabbly one of the smartest basketball people out there, he just let his own narrow-minded opinion get in the way. He didn't really give a crap what anyone else though. Mid Majors everywhere are rejoicing. If it were up to Packer the only teams allowed in the tournament would be from the ACC, SEC, Big 12, Big 10, Big East, or Pac 10.
  3. Reilly was incredibly pathetic. I can't believe the stink he was raising about the lack of black and latino participants. He was a train wreck if their ever was once. I was happy Berman abandoned is Back-Back-Back call for the most part last night, but I have to admit after a while, I just muted as soon as I heard Reilly start to speak
  4. I had an awesome time on a Lake Michigan fishing charter for a bachelor party, It put me back about $50 + fishing license + food and alcohol. Our limit was 5 a piece I believe, we had 6 hours booked but we caught our limit in about 4 hours. I can't remember how many people we had on the boat, I think 5-7. I am sure there are bigger boats available. You can also never go wrong with a Brewer game and a night on the town afterwards
  5. Its been confirmed that Sheets is indeed starting and Braun will be batting 7th Sheets starts; Braun hitting 7th By Tom Haudricourt Monday, Jul 14 2008, 10:28 AM New York - I'm at the All-Star game press conference at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan and as I first reported last night, NL manager Clint Hurdle just made it official that Brewers right-hander Ben Sheets will be starting Tuesday night against the AL at Yankee Stadium. Sheets becomes the first Brewers pitcher to start an All-Star Game, an honor he is very excited about, in particular because he never has been in Yankee Stadium, which will be torn down after the season. "It's a great honor," said Sheets. "I can guarantee you (Hurdle) is the most popular man in Louisiana today. "I look forward to going out in the last All-Star Game in Yankee Stadium history. I've never been to Yankee Stadium, so I'm going to try to take it all in and enjoy myself." Hurdle said Sheets became the favorite for him after he faced the Rockies at Miller Park in the middle of last week. "I got to take a good luck at Ben in midweek," said Hurdle. "The fact that he struck out 11 of us in five inings kind of caught my eye. I'm real smart like that. "I like everything about him. He's blue collar; he brings his lunch pail to work every day. I thought it would be an opportunity that he'd embrace. He has a lot of energy, a lot of passion. He's a perfect match for me." Cleveland left-hander Cliff Lee is starting for the American League. Brewers leftfielder Ryan Braun, voted onto the starting NL outfield in fan balloting, will be batting seventh in the NL lineup. Here is that complete lineup: SS Hanley Ramirez, Fla 2B Chase Utley, Phil 1B Lance Berkman, Hou DH Albert Pujols, Stl 3B Chipper Jones, Atl RF Matt Holliday, Col LF Ryan Braun, Mil CF Kosuke Fukudome, Chi C Geovany Soto, Chi RHP Ben Sheets, Mil Here is the AL lineup: RF Ichiro Suzuki, Sea SS Derek Jeter, NY CF Josh Hamilton, Tex 3B Alex Rodriguez, NY LF Manny Ramirez, Bos DH Milton Bradley, Tex 1B Kevin Youkilis, Bos C Joe Mauer, Min 2B Dustin Pedroia, Bos LHP Cliff Lee, Cle
  6. I am just curious what everyone thinks on this subject. CC threw 122 pitches yesterday. Does anyone else consider that a lot, or considering Sabathia's clean health history do you feel that he could do this every start. If 122 could be considered "normal" for CC how many pitches could he throw before he actually tires? He looked pretty good in the 9th yesterday. COuld he throw 130-135 pitches with no ill effects? And on the same topic, Sheets has had multiple 100+ pitch games this year. Are we at the point that we think Sheets can pitch 110 every night and not get hurt? I know his arm has always been healthy so I think he is certainly capable of going 100+ every game. Or are the Brewers just going to run these 2 guys into the ground to try to make the playoffs at all costs?
  7. At what point does Weeks "upside" be replaced with "unfulfilled potential". I think if he makes it through the rest of this year healthy and still sucks 80% of the time that we trade him in the offseason. Some time will probably still think he has Uber-Potential at that point. If we don't trade him and he comes back next year and still sucks we will get much much less in any potential trade. I know we don't exactly have a 2b capable of replacing him but this is now his 4th year in Milwaukee and has only shown very short moments of brilliance in an otherwise crappy to below average career. If 2007 is going to be his best year I say move on. As far as what we could get for Weeks in the offseason.... I don't think he could be the centerpiece of any deal because of his performance but if put in a package I am sure we could get an excellent return maybe #2-3 starter. If we could put Prince and Rickie in the same deal we could get a kings ransom I do believe. Perhaps including a Lincecum type pitcher (not necessarily Lincecum)
  8. I really don't think that is the case, I doubt he is going to ask for $500,000 more a year just because he started an All Star game. Besides this has much less to do about him being the best in the NL so far as it does the fact the 1st choices pitched yesterday.
  9. Come on now, if an MLB pitcher can't pitch in 2 seperate innings he has no business being in the MLB.
  10. I am going to withold judgement on the Linebrink deal until Inman and Garrison make it to the Padres. There is no use making a judgement now, they could completely flame out and then the trade would look much better, especially if our two picks this year turn into anything. I have only been a diehard since about 2001 so I only recall the estrada trade and the Hammonds signing as just being moronic
  11. You took the words right out of my mouth, I smelled that one from a mile away. A Ram certainly has a flair for the dramatic
  12. I seriously want to know how Theriot has a .317 BA, that can't be sustainable can it? I think he is a pretty solid player but certianly not a .315 BA + type of player
  13. Not cool at all, I swore under my breath at work. You trying to get me fired?
  14. Well good news is that it is still tied, the bad news is that I have no confidence whatsoever that the Giants will score a run at any point so I expect the Cubs to pull this one out. Marquis has 81 pitches through 7 innings he is looking at a complete game if he doesn't screw it up. Is the wind blowing in or what?
  15. The only downside is that it is virtually impossible to get tickets for Saturday games anymore. Unless you get 1 or 2 at at time. I needed 6 tickets for a Saturday game and the only day available through the rest of the season was against the Padres in September
  16. I think CC will be gone but I still thyink we will sign Sheets at 4-5 years at roughly $17MM a year. And IMO the days that a pitcher gets a 7 year deal are long gone, just like Zito's career. There is just now way CC is going to get a 7-9 year deal. I think 6 years would be stretching it. I think theoretically we could sign both, but that would all but eliminate our chance to sign Hart among others to long term deals.
  17. Bill Hall should have totally pitched. In all seriousness I also don't understand why Villy was in there today, should have just thrown Mota out there to see what would happen, if a couple runners get on then go to someone like Villy. I also don't think it was necessary to have Bush throw 124 pitches today but since it worked out I am not going to crucify Ned just yet. I would guess if Bush didn't have a full week off coming up he wouldnt have thrown Bush in the 8th
  18. Holy Bat Man does Bush really have 13 K's? we are in bizzaro world.
  19. 122, he better be done now, whats the point in keeping him out there?
  20. Weeks + another for Roberts and Sherrill/Bradford. Weeks as shown signs of life the last two games but I am sure he will go 0-12 the next 3 games
  21. Why can't we ever have a bullpen that isn't a scrap heap full of cow dung? We usually have 3 guys that you can count on and 3 guys who have no business being there. Why can't we for once develop a Marmol, Papelbon, Rivera, anyone at all? I hope to all heavens that Mota is just released. I would much rather have DeFelice, Dillard, or Pena. Come on Doug and Ned everyone knows that Mota has completely lost it, just cut him and move on
  22. I wish Ben's pitch count was a little lower at this point
  23. I know their were concerns after his last start because his velocity wasn't there, maybe Beane knows something we don't? Even if that is the case, the Cubs still have theirs doctors and one would think their would be repercussions if Beane knowingly traded an injured player. I suppose he just wanted to get something before the you know what hits the fan
  24. Thats what I don't get how could OAK trade 1 1/2 years of Top 10 pitcher (if healthy) for Gallagher and a bunch of junk? PLus they got a reliever out of the deal. Makes absolutely no sense to me. Heck we could have offered Dave Bush, Cain, and maybe one more player and we could have gotten Harden. That is just ridiculous
  25. At first glance it certianly seems like the Cubs won this trade going away. Seems like Beane really undervalued Harden because of his injury history. If Harden stays healthy that is a damn good rotation, but if he doesn't they really don't have a good alternative to go through. The rest of this season is going to be a fun one to watch, the NL Central is going for broke, what are the Cardinals going to do now? Or the Mets for that matter? The two top pitchers are now gone, what can these other NL teams do to catch the Cubs and Brewers? Not a whole lot IMO, unless Burnett counts
