  1. Jorge Lopez has taken a huge step forward this year. He is only in his age 21 season at Low A. Definitely a kid to keep following. When I watched him with the Timber Rattlers it sure looked like he had pretty solid stuff but he tended to be all over the place. He is definitely one of the higher upside guys in the organization.
  2. I think it is kind of funny how many votes Braun is getting. Reading the op ed pieces if he gets elected by the fans one year after being suspended will be entertaining. Jeff Passan might just decide to quit. I am not sure if the media would be more upset if fans voted Braun in, if the manager picked him, or if the players picked him. Gomez has to be a lock at this point and Lucroy, Braun, Lohse, and Krod all have a chance. Peralta has been pretty good but probably doesn't have enough wins. Smith has been great but you can probably count the number of non closing relievers selected to recent all star games on one hand. I am already puking about the Jeter love fest that the All Star Game will surely be.
  3. I agree; there are some pretty terrible teams that would love to give him a shot in their rotation or bullpen. It seems almost a lock that if he opted out he would find an MLB job really quickly. There is just no way he plays in Milwaukee this year; no spot in the rotation or bullpen for him. Great story and I hope he can have a nice career.
  4. Last pick from Indiana didn't go over very well. I guess I can't hold that against Schwarber though. I know next to nothing about these prospects. So long as the Crew picks someone that is considered top 15 by most publication I will be happy. Just no reaches or weird picks in the first couple picks please. Part of me wants a college bat that can progress through the system quickly; but no reason to pass over a better talent to do that
  5. I guess Kohl wasn't kidding when he said he wanted to keep the Bucks in MIL. He got offered $650 Million from Ballmer who would have moved the team to Seattle. That is $100 Million more than the purchase price plus Kohl wouldn't have committed the $100 Million to build a new arena either. I guess at Kohls age what is the difference between being $450 Million rich or $650 Million rich. Its all about legacy. I wonder how much Kohl is going to be paying in capital gains taxes; it has got to be a ton; $100 Million + probably.
  6. This pitching is getting borderline ridiculous. Anyone the Brewers are throwing out there are having great years. I am not sure we have a legitimate pitching prospect that is having a bad year. Quintana or Pena maybe? Everyone has been great and will make it awfully hard to complete promotions and hopefully several can provide ammunition to improve the big league club later on.
  7. It is actually pretty incredible that Ned even has a job anymore. This was supposed to be the prime years of the Royals franchise considering how strong their farm system was 3-4 years ago. That team and its prospects have been an undeniable failure and part of the reason you don't want to pin all your hopes on the farm system saving you (I am looking at you Cubs).
  8. The way Lohse has pitched I don't think there is anyway he gets traded. He has been great for the Brewers. Estrada, at least to me, seems the most logical trade candidate either at the trading deadline or this offseason. I am still Ok with the Garza signing despite the poor start. I think we all thought Nelson would be pretty good but I am glad he has been able to have success at AAA. No one could have expected Fiers to do anything year. I guess Smith or Thornburg would have made the rotation, absent Garza, and who really knows what kind of effect that would have had.
  9. Well if Embiid is the first pick I think everyone should universally want Wiggins #2. The problem is clearly coming when Wiggins gets picked #1 and the Bucks have to decide between Parker and Embiid. Parker has a lower ceiling and a higher floor than Embiid. Embiid could turn out to be great but his injury history scares me and he is definitely a project. Parker could step in and play right away. Fitting Embiid into the rotation would be pretty simple. Fitting Parker in could be an issue with Giannis, Ersan, Middleton, and Henson. Its too bad that there isn't an elite PG or SG prospect that the Bucks could take here. Wiggins and Parker are both better suited for a SF spot and Embiid is a throwback C. Exum is a PG but no one should really be considering him at #2; at least I hope.
  10. Well Braun being 3rd in All Star voting probably means the majority of people don't give a rats behind about last year. Cruz at $8 Million has been a crazy good deal this year and he is setting himself up to make some big coin this offseason.
  11. About 75% of the mock drafts so far have Wiggins #1 to Cleveland and Embiid #2 to the Bucks. This is going to happen and I am going to be so pissed. I would love to be proven wrong about Embiid but that pick probably wouldn't get me excited about 2014/2015. The team still wouldn't be able to score a lick; at least they would probably guaranty themselves a Top #7 pick again next year. If Wiggins goes #1 and the Bucks would take Embiid #2; I seriously would rather them trade down a few spots and take someone like Exum, Randle, or Smart and pick up another 1st rounder next year. Ideally they would just take Parker at #2 but no one seems to be predicting that right now.
  12. No kidding. The kid always had potential but he appears to be putting it together this year. Plus he is still really young for High A. Looking forward to tracking him the rest of the year. The overall pitching has been a very pleasant surprise this year. Yeah there aren't any aces in waiting but we appear to be building a lot of quality depth. There are probably a legitimate 5-7 guys at High A or above that I think can be legitimate MLB starters (3 or 4 types) and almost certainly a couple of those can be better than that. If Nelson and Peralta can lead the front of the rotation it appears we have plenty of guys that could fill in the rest of rotation pretty solidly.
  13. Its kind of crazy that a school in Whitewater where there is literally nothing to do ever has been able to build such a dominating sports culture. The facilities are amazing for Division 3 but it still has to take a hell of a recruiting effort to get kids to play in Whitewater. Whitewater benefits significantly from the lack of Division 2 schools in WI. If kids aren't good enough for Division 1, don't want to go far away from home or can't afford out of state tuition you go to UWW. It is a great campus; that is the biggest thing they have going for them. The city kind of sucks. I have also heard that the campus and city police in Whitewater are underage drinking Nazis; that school definitely has a reputation for having a very low tolerance for that. I probably would have gotten kicked out.
  14. Braun had no reason the sprint to home. He was going to score easily no matter what and with as fragile as he is I wouldn't mind if he coasted home and took it easy. Gomez was at fault for that particular play. Gomez certainly isn't the worst base runner on the team. He is the most aggressive so he gets thrown out more often then the other guys but the Crew reaps the benefits of him taking extra bases all the time
  15. Just thought I would chime in on how odd it was to hear the radio announcers going on and on about Nelson struggling on Sunday. I hadn't been following the game and started listening in the 4th inning I think and I could have swore that the Brewers must have been losing 6-0. If your young pitcher sucks and still manages to go 5 2/3rds score less with only a couple hits that can't be that bad. Cut the kid some slack already; it was his first start. If Nelson is going to replace anyone it will be Estrada. That would likely not happen any time soon though. Gallardo, Lohse, Garza, and Peralta are just not going anywhere in the middle of a pennant race. Estrada is a solid pitcher but definitely replaceable if he can help you get some much needed help at 1st.
  16. Well if we don't come back this might be the most frustrating game of the year. Blown save, multiple failures with RISP, etc, etc.
  17. Yeah because Krod pitching in yesterday's game totally has an effect on the way he pitched today. Krod just didn't have it; he has shown numerous time the ability to pitch on consecutive days
  18. From the perspective of a fan I would much rather have Nelson start than Fiers anyways. Not that Fiers wouldn't be fine; but Nelson hopefully is going to be a long term fixture in the rotation very soon
  19. Another 5 runs or so and we are in Wang territory. We shouldn't quite feel safe pitching him yet
  20. The explanation for the 7th inning should be interesting. I am sure it was a communication problem but that still can't happen. It put Smith in an impossible position (Although if they would have played the infield back they could have gotten out of that tied perhaps). Anyways that is a dejecting loss and all the highlight shows will be laughing at that atrocity of a 7th inning. Oh and of course Braun and Gomez are hurting again. Why can't this team be frickin healthy for once; this is ridiculous
  21. So I guess Hammond is going to be around to make the pick? Boo to that. I am already expecting him to draft Embiid and have him get hurt while the 3-5 picks turn into all starts. As much optimism that I generally have about the Crew I am the exact opposite about the Bucks. How is Hammond going to screw this up?
  22. Denson has an OPS over 1.000 in May. He had a dreadful start to the year but has had a very strong month despite a short DL stint in the middle. He certainly looks the part of a power hitting 1B when watching on TV that's for sure. The kid is pretty big; but certainly by no means chunky like Prince. He looks like a guy that could be adequate defensively in time. He is walking a lot and showed the same thing last year in Rookie Ball. He only has 6 XBH this year which is disappointing given his power potential but that will probably come in time. Other than Coulter and Taylor he is my favorite hitter to follow in the system.
  23. At least in my opinion Denson has a higher ceiling than any of them. Granted he does have a long ways to go yet but he has huge power potential and has shown an ability to take a walk. If I had to pick between Morris and Ramirez I probably would still pick Morris as of right now but it is pretty close. Morris either has to make the Brewers sometime this year or he is going to be playing somewhere else in 2015. But I don't think either of those guys have the potential to be a league average first basemen.
