  1. If the buying team wants him to start Sunday than the trade probably needs to be done on Friday I would guess. I am putting my money on tomorrow. The rumor mill seems to be really hot this year with a lot of deals getting done; I don't think DM will wait around if he gets a deal he likes
  2. There is a big difference between Krod and Hart. No way would I trade Grienke and Hart for Delgado and Minor. Grienke/Krod sure but Hart has much more value than that
  3. The sell off the Marlins are doing right now is really incredible. After spending so much on Reyes, Buehrle, and Bell in the offseason and opening a new stadium it really is amazing that they are blowing up the team so quickly. They have a good team I just don't understand there logic in this. They just have some players having bad years (Sound familar).
  4. Well theres that and the Marlins are trading there entire team 4 months after opening a new stadium and promising the team would be competitve. They are bailing very quickly on a good team that is just having a bad year. I don't really like what they are doing. If I was TEX I would be going after Johnson first since he signed for another year. But he has much more injury concern than Grienke does at this point as well. Tex may be offering up Olt but MIA might be asking for even more than that.
  5. Rocky Coppinger; completely forget the lovefest I had on him for a while
  6. Grienke still has to compete with Josh Johnson, Matt Garza, and Ryan Dempster. Still quite a few good starters that teams have to pick from. The Rangers are talking to the Marlins right now about Johnson. Doug might need to make a move sooner rather than later otherwise teams might pass him over.
  7. I really think everyone is just wating for the ZG start tonight; if all goes well I imagine the rumor mill will pick up pretty quickly. Now would be a good time for one of those 7-8 inning 1-2 run type games from Zack.
  8. If Grienke pitches well tonight I don't think he is on the team on Saturday. It might take a couple of days to drive the price up but I definitely think there are a lot of suitors and Doug will eventually get a pretty solid package. Doug is so secretive about trades/FA/etc that it is virtually impossible to get a good read on the guy. I am sure he is keeping his options open and will take the best package available. However I imagine he would have no interest in a bunch of high level A prospects; I think he is shooting for AA or higher.
  9. I agree; I think the asking price is going up and the draft pick compensation isn't really holding back the teams that are going all in.
  10. I suppose we can use this thread. While it eliminates another suiter; it also raise the price for Grienke even more. The asking price has to be about a Top #30 prospect now if the Tigers gave up Turner for Anibal Sanchez. Omar Infante doesn't count for anything. We would have a bunch of pieces equivalent to Infante if we wanted to make a trade
  11. In exchange for Anibal Sanchez & Omar Infante I know Turner was on the list of prospects people might like for Grienke.
  12. I am guessing he makes the start tomorrow and then all bets are off and DM will just move on. Considering we face Halladay and Lee the next two days it is pretty unlikely that we will be closer to the playoffs Wednesday than we are today.
  13. Well hopefully Grienke has a good start tomorrow which re-establishes his trade value. If Dempster can get Delgado than I see no reason that Grienke couldn't get Olt (So long as Grienke shows he is healthy) Just one deal needs to get done this trading season to set the price. If it is indeed a straight Demp for Delgado swap than this really favors the Brewers (except for the fact of taking ATL out of the hunt). Still plenty of teams with good prospects to target.
  14. $60 Million Fine Penn State should just fold the football program for a couple years because they basically have no chance of being competitve in the B10. Well maybe they could beat Indiana. I feel badly for the current players and coaches on that team but damn if that administration didn't really screw up. Just a horrible situation all the way around. To think an entire university was basically brought down because of one sick demented man and the failure of officials to report it. Just call the cops in 1998 and this never would have happened. On a related note UW will only have to beat out INdiana, Purdue, and Illinois to get into the B10 Championship. Talk about the mother of all cakes walks (assuming they get halfway decent QB play)
  15. I imagine Rogers will get a shot in Sep at a minimum and if Grienke is traded maybe they give him a shot sooner. At the worst if the lower walk rate trend continues we could have a nice bullpen arm on our hands. Would love to see him stick as a starter though; if he develops into even a decent SP it would be a major bonus for MIL because he was basically written off as a prospect 3 years ago.
  16. I am optimistic that we can get a Top #10 pick in next years draft. Hell I say we go for broke and try to get Top #5.
  17. And of course 2011 would have never happened either
  18. Going in with Gamel I would be OK with; going in with Green at 3rd would terrify me; same with Scooter.
  19. I would like that rotation as well but you damn well know that if Gooden is on the team that he is getting signicant minutes at the 4/5. I don't see any reason that he should start anymore unless Ersan plays a 3; but he is still going to take minutes away from younger, cheaper, and better players. We can only hope Hammond can find a team to take him off of our hands in exchange for some SG or SF depth.
  20. Well considering the Brewers have been in contenttion virtually every year since the Carlos Lee trade it makes sense that Melvin hasn't traded off MLB pieces that have value. After all he is trying to win games. An MLB GM is not about to trade a proven vet that can help his team make the playoffs for a prospect that may or may not pan out. I can't fault Melvin for not "selling high" on guys because the Brewers have been competitive and selling off good/high value players during a period of success doesn't make a whole lot of sense (In the near term while trying to make the playoffs).
  21. The obvious problem there is finding a place to play him given the amount of forwards we already have. I have no doubt he will be buried on the bench or at best be like the 3rd guy off the bench and getting maybe 10-15 minutes a game. The Bucks & Skiles have shown no ability to properly develop draft picks. Jennings was a starter on day #1 out of necessity; I am sure they would have preferred him to sit the bench for a while to if they had the choice.
  22. #1 Prospects in all of baseball are never available. Hell Top #10 Prospects are almost never available. You worry about Andrus later; those position battles tend to work themselves out. I certainly would never recommend trading a #1 prospect simply because he is blocked at the big league club. We never would have considered trading Fielder, Weeks, or Braun when they were our top prospects no matter who we would be getting; I think it is a similar situation with Profar. (Although Texas is in a much better situation than MIL was when we had those top prospects)
  23. I would like a bullpen piece added but only if he is controlled for atleast 2013. Always have to improve the team regardless of if the Brewers can make the playoffs this year. Relievers almost never cost elite prospects; might have to take a somewhat crappy contract back though
  24. If there is anything that we have learned about DM over the course of his career at MIL is that he plays everything extremely close to the vest. It is pointless to speculate at all because Melvin continously completes deals that no one sees coming until the last minute. To think that a MLB GM is not doing due diligence and trying to find ways to improve the organization both at the MLB level and MILB level is really doing a disservice to them. And honestly from the viewpoint of a GM; you really don't want to throw in the towel on a year until you absolutely have to and cleary MIL has not reached that point where the playoffs are unattainable. Yes a lot of things would have to go right but it isn't impossible; our record this year is not that much worse than the same time last year.
