  1. Team rankings? Player ratings?
  2. How about a movie I just watched, Requiem for a Dream. #65 on IMDB for that piece of self-insisting post-modern dreck? People are that impressed with dramatized drug snapshots, poor story-telling, bad character development, and billions of cut scenes? Artsy, dramatic, and shocking for the sake of being artsy, dramatic, and shocking does not equal one of the top movies of all time. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention all the Lord of the Rings movies in the same breath, considering this was the first time since those movies that I wanted out within the first 30 minutes due to utter awfulness.
  3. Any Notre Dame sports team.
  4. Yeah, 2 years / $16 million sounds familiar to me, too. I swear I just read that somewhere, that Doug had that option but went with one year instead ... thought maybe it was the 2008 Baseball Prospectus, but I just scanned through the Brewers article and didn't see it in there. EDIT: http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=10994
  5. No kidding. If this winter has proven anything, it's that Wisconsinites really don't know how to drive in less-than-perfect conditions. When it's snowing but 32 degrees and the roads are nothing but water, it's no different than driving in light rain ... no reason to go 45 mph on the expresssway ... a concept 95% of drivers around here can't grasp. I'm sick of being the fastest driver on the road. If you're in the left lane and someone behind you wants to go faster than you, you should expect someone to ride your tail (I would) if you don't move over. If you're referring to being in the center lane when this happens, that's a little different.
  6. Is it possible to date a girl with the same first name as your sister? It just seems kinda creepy....
  7. Man, all this background noise behind Jack Z is annoying and obnoxious. Cut the interview short and move on to something else....
  8. Marillion : Fish- "Cinderella Search" "Maybe it was infatuation, or the thrill of the chase Maybe you were always beyond my reach, and my heart was playing safe But was that love in your eyes I saw? Or the reflection of mine? I'll never really know for sure You never really gave me time...." Marillion : Fish- "Script for a Jester's Tear" "The fool escaped from paradise will look over his shoulder and cry Sit and chew on daffodils and struggle to answer why? As you grow up and leave the playground Where you kissed your prince and found your frog Remember the jester that showed you tears, the script for tears…" Marillion : Fish- "Kayleigh" "Do you remember chalk hearts melting on a playground wall? Do you remember dawn escapes from moon-washed college halls? Do you remember the cherry blossom in the market square? Do you remember? I thought it was confetti in our hair. By the way, didn't I break your heart? Please excuse me, I never meant to break your heart So sorry, I never meant to break your heart But you broke mine" Marillion : Steve Hogarth- "Fantastic Place" "Take me to the island I'll tell you all I never told you The boy I never showed you More than I gave in my life Take me by the hand You'll either kill me or you'll save me Take me to the island Show me what might be real life" Marillion : Steve Hogarth- "The Great Escape" "So tell me more, About the love that you rejected. Tell me more, About the trust you disrespected. I still don't know, why did you hurt the very one, Why did you hurt the very one that you should have protected?" Marillion : Steve Hogarth- "When I Meet God" "And if the bottle's no solution, Why does it feel so warm? And if that girl is no solution, Why did she feel so warm? And if to feel is no solution, Why do I feel? Why do I feel so tired? Why do I feel so broken? Why do I feel so outside? Why do I seem so blind? ...I'm so sick of feeling, it's ruined my life." Marillion : Steve Hogarth- "Estonia" "Finding the answer, It's a human obsession But you might as well talk to the stones and the trees and the sea, 'Cos nobody knows, And so few can see, There's only beauty and caring and truth beyond darkness" Marillion : Steve Hogarth- "The Invisible Man" "If I close my eyes, I can see where you live Climb the winding stairs up to your apartment The scent of you preparing his evening meal I must watch in dread when he's cruel to you In horrified silence as you make love I cannot lift a hand, lift a hand to stop him I don't exist What can I do? What can I do?"
  9. Enchant : Paul Craddick- "In the Dark" "Lives are running novels At times you read, at times you write The choice of which to do Might keep you awake at night" Enchant : Ted Leonard- "My Enemy" "And the target's well with in my sights But my hands won't release the bow I've been pulling back on it so long I've forgotten how to let it go And I know I have the means But my will is gone And I fear I won't succeed So I'm holding on" Enchant : Ted Leonard- "Under the Sun" "I've spent my life searching for something to keep me constantly content, And now I'm left here with a longing for what I've spent"
  10. I just bought airfare for March 6th-9th and it's probably my happiest moment of 2008 so far. ($380 roundtrip, non-stop, Midwest Airlines ... woot!) I've got a Brewer-fan cousin living down there with time off, so I get free lodging & transportation and I might get to go to all four Maryvale in that stretch ... I'm pretty psyched. I've been promised a weekend of baseball, drinking, and grilling. Get me out of this turkey town now! I'd love to meet up with / say hi to anyone down there who's from milwaukee. Surely I'll be sporting my BF.net softball jersey and "I [beer] Milwaukee" t-shirts....
  11. Just, I prefer my baseball heroes not have the same eccentric dietary practices and weak-stomached attitudes as Lisa Simpson. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I can sleep at night, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.... (no pun intended) It's like finding out Mr. T wears women's shoes or something. Que sera sera.
  12. Bingo. Fad. I'm disappointed by the big guy, but to each his own....
  13. How dare he overlook our many recent winning seasons and playoff appearances.
  14. Muppet Babies, Zoobilee Zoo, Where in the World is Carmen San Diego, 321 Contact / Bloodhound Gang, Pinwheel, Picture Pages, Ducktales, Tailspin, TMNT, Punky Brewster, Pee Wee's Playhouse.
  15. I really miss the Two Fisted Slobber video. It needs to be brought back.
  16. To finish what I started: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_T_and_One_Track_Mike I thought they were common knowledge. Wasn't "Shaniqua" a semi-big hit on MTV? (FWIW, their songs "Loosendin", "Wings", and "Fome Is Dape" are about as good as half-serious hip-hop can be. Highly recommended.)
  17. I didn't realize TGJ's nickname was Little T. Pretty sweet that the other CF on our roster is named Mike. Sly move by Doug. Mr. Cameron while henceforth be known as "One Track".
  18. Side-question: How would you feel about the Cubs' fanbase (largely made up of the arrogant fratboy / ignorant sorority girl types, as you know) potentially jumping on the Brewers' bandwagon? It'd be gool to have a "Brewer Nation" that suddenly got huge like that, but at the cost of turning the Miller Park parking lot into amateur hour for every game??? Probably not worth it....
  19. Top 3 in VORP for 2B, 50 stolen bases out of 57 attempts, top notch defense ... potential to move Soriano out of the leadoff spot ... he would definitely help them a bunch. Over the top? That all depends on where one thinks they're at right now. If you think they're about even with the Brewers, it likely puts them over the top; you could argue, though, that it takes an already over-the-top Cubs team and separates them further from the pack. Or I suppose you could make a case that it still won't be enough to beat out a powerhouse like the Brewers with a history of excellence and luck on their side. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif (fixed the blue --1992)
  20. No, Kendall isn't the worst catcher in baseball, just 3rd-worst in the NL according to Sporting News. Has this article been posted yet?: http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=349091. I'm actually sortof optimistic about Kendall being able to help us this year, but it's probably not wise to get too excited until he's proven he's better than the bottom-of-the-barrel status he's earned for himself recently. If this move works out well for Doug this season, he got lucky.
  21. I just worked my first-ever 25 hour workday. 6.5 hours of normal day-to-day business, 4 hours of travel, and 14.5 long hours of replacing an Exchange 2003 mail server with a new Exchange 2007 mail server (plus testing, configuring, Blackberry server changes, third party spam/anti-virus/content-filtering upgrades and settings changes, etc, etc).
  22. NES, in order: 1) Baseball Stars 2) Bad News Baseball 3) Baseball Simulator 1.000 4) Little League Baseball Championship Series 5) Bases Loaded Honorable mention to RBI Baseball on NES and Ken Griffey Jr Presents on SNES. I've been pretty unimpressed with all the offerings I've tried on PS2, be it The Show, MVP, whatever.
  23. Thanks for the heads up, that's awesome! Would I know dak or Junior from anywhere? (Too lazy to research.) I always thought the content at FJM was just too good to be the work of amateurs.....
  24. From the "Boston Globe" thread in the Major Leagues forum.... I came very close to posting this as a reply in that thread because I strongly believe the guy deserves to be defended in the very thread in which he was (unfairly) singled out and scolded. I like you Casey, but man, in my opinion, this is another major hit against a chance for better conversation on this board. Sometimes it seems like posters here are simply either a member of the unspoken good ol' boys club or they're not. It's like a memo went out to all mods that AKA Pete was disagreeing with Ennder and talking about subjective observational analysis, and collective chops-licking ensued at the prospect of catching him use "LOL" so he could be disciplined in front of everyone. Phrases like "I hate to break it to you" and "Hellloooo" have been used a bazillion times by established posters, often with a nastier tone. In this case, in my opinion, neither warranted a very rare public spanking -- not even close. I hope this was really just a warning and there was a corresponding PM to AKA Pete along the lines of, "Hey, really enjoy your contribution to the board, but no AOL speak, it's in our rules; and watch it with statements that could be seen as condescending, such as...." We need more posters like him, not less. I've said my piece.
  25. Sent you a PM, Kenny. Forgot to ask who to make the check out to, so please include that in the reply. Thanks.
