  1. Am I missing something, or what did Linebrink do to not deserve the 8th? He K'd three batters on 15 pitches and he's the guy in the pen with pennant race experience. I wanted him in the 8th. Without the bean war, requiring a kamakazi, 1-pitch-and-you're-tossed sacrificial lamb, does our best option for the 8th stay out there and take care of Pujols? We won't know, but that seemed smart to me. (Apologies if I'm wrong and they pinch hit for Linebrink in the 7th, but my memory says it was Villy who got pinch hit for at the bottom of 6.)
  2. TooLiveBrew, I love that that picture looks like Ned just rolled some invisible dice. Fitting. (Or he's flipping off his shoes for causing him to walk out to the mound for an ill-advised pitching change?)
  3. When Prince got hit, intentionally, early in the game, I turned to my sister and her boyfriend and said, "The ideal situation now is a 5 run lead late in the game -- bring in Spurling or Stetter just to plunk Pujols in the jaw". I never for a moment suspected we'd retaliate late in the game with a small lead, let alone WHILE STILL TRAILING. Just one of many reasons I couldn't take it anymore and left my seat the moment Walky McWalk made it 4-2 Cards.
  4. First time in my life I ever left a game early in Miller Park (top of 8, after Turnbow BB). I just couldn't take any more of the craptititude. This team was in control of the NL central for most of the year. Play a majority of their games against terrible opponents. Had a HUGE FREAKING head start. Have TWO mvp-level players on offense. The fact that they're going to let the Cubs smuggly waltz into the playoffs is beyond comprehension to me and absolutely unacceptable. Barely 81 wins? This team is a joke and is super-lucky to be "in contention" for anything other than third place in a "normal" league. We still suck, and maybe we always will. Another season of pedestrian-or-worse play from a team I keep investing thousands of dollars in. Kiss my asphalt. EDIT: Oops, I said "league" and meant "division". d'oh.....
  5. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL news. Next we'll be hearing that Jenkins' option has been picked up. This organization just refuses to move on.
  6. Jeff Cirillo. Oh wait...... Call me crazy, but I think I'd be happiest with JJ up there.
  7. So if my wife's ex-husband beat her, I can too? EDIT: (I don't have a wife.)
  8. Hmph, I never released the "timing" blunder that this writer points out. That just makes me more mad....
  9. I just watched the game in fast-forward. If I'm not mistaken, I saw Gwynn pinch hit somewhat late in the game with a runner on. When we were down by two. Is there a logical explanation? When we need someone to tie things up with one swing of the bat? (A feat Gwynn could only achieve at Halfaer) Every other hitter except Stocker was used up??
  10. Glad they finally found a sponsor.... http://www.blovestrutters.com/rays.jpg
  11. Front-loaded deals with a player option is the only way to go. Signing bonus is a must. But first, have your agent contact a competitive divisional team of your former club and put together a quick deal for the remainder of the season.... Shatter some playoff dreams while staying in the game.
  12. Walky McWalk gave two batters a free ride and then his inning fell apart in a high leverage situation? Who woulda guessed....
  13. "Lightnin Strikes" by Lou Christie. And Patrick, "Bad Time" is a great song!
  14. Yeah, we're in first place, but with essentially a .500 record. In an absolutely terrible division. So we're an average team at best that by all rights should be several games back right now. It's better than not being in first place, but I'm not exactly beaming with pride.
  15. Just read from rotowire that Hall changed his batting stance for yesterday's game. Surprised to come here and not see any threads or comments about it. (Maybe I'm missing it, didn't check the IGT.) I didn't get to watch last night's game, just listened on the radio and was completely unaware. Any thoughts/comments on it? I think the FSN pre-game show is about to run a small piece on it.
  16. I predict Suppan goes yard at least once before the end of the season....
  17. Yeah, but that doesn't show prices, does it? Or maybe I can drill into each community thread and see a price? I remember it being kind of a pain in the past. There used to be some good listings (like the one I referenced above) that would track how long it took for an item to sell, how many were sold, and then also the prices. Btw, a woot-like site, www.tanga.com, is having a wootoff-like "tangathon" today. Sometimes they're just selling board games and stuff, but other times it's electronics.
  18. Anyone got a link to listing of all the wootoff items that have come up? I used to use http://wootoff.wikispaces.com/, but the date on that says January.
  19. Working within the confines of Yahoo's 20 character limit, I went with MoneyNtheBananaStand for one league and Rancho Relaxo in another.
  20. The YMCA clip is okay, but it's no YATTA
  21. Great interview. BTW, the intro says he was selected in the 14th round in 2003 by the Cubs, but in the interview Patrick asks about being selected in the 14th round by the Red Sox. Error?
  22. - It's a pretty dumb question, I don't know how I would be able to respond to it in any kind of polite/diplomatic/PC way. - She's on the spot, trying to make up some kind of reasonable answer to a dumb question and got turned around and didn't realize that the question was about US residents. - I don't believe the stat to begin with. - She's really cute, so I'll defend her to death.
  23. Toronto and Atlanta. Followed by Anaheim, Cleveland, and San Diego.
  24. Ended up getting some people together and doing it. Tons of fun. We want to do it again for sure, next time with more notice! I'll keep you guys posted.
  25. It might not be fair, but my two biggest vents from yesterday were Rickie Weeks and Prince Fielder. I feel like that ball Weeks let get by him in the 8th (?) was the turning point in the game. I'm not saying every 2B in the league gets to it, but from the replays, Rickie -- again -- reacted horribly to the ball off the bat and let a grounder that seemed potentially harmless roll by him without a dive. I hate his defense so much. And he's a worthless hitter on top of it. Prince had three opportunities (correct me if I'm wrong) late in the game to tack on some runs. Runner on third with 1 out, runner on second with 2 outs, and then runners on first and second with two outs to end the game. It's hard to be mad at Prince, but coming up bone dry in all three of those situations -- combined with the continued uselessness of Weeks -- made me want to vent myself into a coma.
